Holy cow I got here before the poem rat
I forgot it goes up at three, not four, now. (UK time)
Our weekly dose of Dragon Tales
But where oh where is the rat from Wales?
That rodent with a clever tongue
Which oft amuses everyone
We need a dose of rhyming, please
You have the fanbase to appease.
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
The Poerat?
Rat Prelutsky?
The Poet Lau-rat?
I think I like this one best so far. 🙂
That’s the winner.
There’s something innocent
about Near riding Kai;
as long as he doesn’t go fast
whilst she’s riding high.
Kaya, on the other hand,
is rarely seen ridden;
will the usual commander
do as she’s bidden?
It’s time for fun on the beach,
upon the green shoulder.
It’ll be something to tell about
when you’re both older.
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Hmm… what’s the etiquette of calling a cat hybrid “kitty,” especially someone you’ve just met? Seems a bit gauche of Annabella.
In this case it counts as a surprise attack. Near is too distracted by the offer to joust to react to the “kitty”.
Jackie has called her boyfriend Jesse ‘puppy’ dice before they started going out.
I would not object to a hybrid girlfriend commonly known as “Kitty,” as long as -she- was okay with it. Not sure how I’d feel if it was me. I suspect it would depend a lot on who was calling me that, and if it was a -friendly- jibe or otherwise.
I wonder how many cat hybrids are stuck with stereotypical pet cat names by new parents thinking it’s cute, and -not- thinking of the social consequences for their offspring.
You could say that Near has that problem, as well. After all, the word “Near” sounds to be awfully close to “Nya”, the Japanese equivalent of “Meow”. Her parents just obfuscated it slightly while making it into a joke.
Just had a Quick Look online and 277kg was the heaviest scooter on a top x review list. I doubt he could lift that over his head at his current age.
We never really got accurate results on the adult strength hospital checks.
Yeah, that’s not the little 50cc scoots the kids have. The current version of their scoots (Vespa Primavera 50) weighs 120kg or 265 lbs. That said, Kai and Kaya are both absurdly strong.
Did a little Google-Fu for the lightest motorcycle scooter, still had a mobility scooter result come up in the mix 😑, but 1st I found one that was around 101kgs, then another that was 78kgs. Considering Kai is already stronger than his adult Dad, he might be able to pick up 1 of those 2, though probably not over his head….
Now once he’s a fully grown adult, maybe get some exercise or even training in….
OK, at 67 kg Kai would count as a featherweight (if he were an adult).
The world records were 155 kg (Snatch) and 190 kg (Clean & Jerk).
Yes, they are absurdly strong.
I don’t think they’ve done the strength tests yet. Might be another chapter just for that day. But we do know Kai appears to be stronger than his Dad already according to his Dad while they were moving a couch. And while I doubt Kaya would be just as strong (female body + puberty = more body fat and less muscle mass, plus she loves chocolate 😜🤣), I wouldn’t put her too far behind. She did give that bully a good shove without really trying and caught that medical trolley at an unusual angle easily enough….
Kai: “I mean, I could still lift it, just not over my head.”
Looks like Annabella is acting as Kai’s wing woman and hype girl, describing all his awesome traits for Near. Just don’t overdo it.
Normally, the mount would be at less risk than the jouster, but when that jouster is Kaya… I wouldn’t hold my breath. If there’s another joust on, then it’s time to wrangle Kaya.
“Why yes, what an awesome idea Mr President Of The United States Of America….” *Obvious wink*
………..
“Did…. I take it too far?”
“I don’t know, maybe I should arrange a diplomatic meeting to discuss this with the Italian Parliament…..” 😑
Almost always could have been worse… 😋
Oh wow, didn’t see that coming! Question is: did Anabella convince Near to give jousting a try? Also question: has Kaya ever been the horse before?
Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match,
Find me a find,
Catch me a catch…
Seems like Annabella like to push the people’s buttons a bit…
Oooooh! Dangerous question: Does Near think she’s heavier than Kaya? Kai was carrying his sister around just fine so what makes Near think he wouldn’t be able to carry her without difficulty?
I hadn’t thought about it that way, but your reasoning is sound. Without taking body fat into account, Kaya certainly has more mass due to the robustness of her lizardarian tail, rather than Near’s, which is mostly tail fluff.
i think its just instictual for anyone who is offerd to be lifted to go “wont i be too heavy” even if you see them lift heavier things
Near seems to be a little taller than the twins. Counting the massive tail (and probably very dense bones, needed to support the unusual strenght), Kaya is probably a heavier than her, but it’s easy to not count for that.
Anyone else slightly surprised by the casual reveal that Near is a cat? I thought she was a wolf. 😅 I guess my brain had better start to do some adjusting.
Near is a Norwegian Forest Cat.
Her relatively short muzzle looks rather cat-like. A wolf should have a longer muzzle. The nose on the other hand is not so cat-like. Felines have a very characteristic nose, with some variation but easily recognizable in all feline species. Near’s black lump looks more canine than feline. The fluffy tail also looks rather canine. Longer fur on the tail than on the rest of the body isn’t typical for cats. Thus it’s no wonder that readers have trouble telling what species of hybrid Near is.
Last panel: I think Near’s brain just broke at the thought of riding Kai. I hope she’s not thinking what I really hope she’s not thinking…
Yeah; after a few days thought and a closer look, Near does look possibly a bit annoyed. She could have taken it that Annabella is making a bit of a cut about her weight. Kai is just reacting to Annabelle boasting about his strength, but the way he worded it, it could be taken wrong too. Poor Near.
I’m thinking that last panel isn’t Near annoyed, but stunned at the whole “lift a scooter motorcycle above his head” comment, and the fact that instead of denying it, Kai just says it depends on the scooter, confirming it’s possible. Pretty sure most Hybrids are just as strong as their normal Human counterparts, with the 3 main Mystical Hybrids having significantly improved strength, but Near wouldn’t have any way to know about that detail…
As for her asking if she’ll be too heavy, I’m writing that up as either teen girl weight worrying (common but needs to be sorted) or her trying to find an excuse to back out of it….
Quite possible!
I… don’t think we actually have proof that Jin is abnormally strong as a mythical hybrid. His martial art is based on fluidity rather than force, and the only “demonstration” of him having more -power- behind his muscles than a normal kid his age should, I would mostly chalk up to the giant milestone page rather than actually being an accurate portrayal of the fight.
