The gown
One twin asks questions first, the other doesnt…
If you want a closer look to Kai’s Ancient Dragon shirt, click here
Also, I recently finished the wallpaper that was requested by the winner of last year’s outfit contest 😀 Boy, did this take ages to make. It’s finally done. Here it is, in all it’s glory 😀
I’ve also put some cameo’s in. Some of my top patreon supporters are in there:
Liam the hyena (VenetosIncognito)
Alexis the mouse (Cheynas)
Shivanna (David)
Drago and Viper (ReptileFan)
There’s also a little black haired mouse hybrid in there. I got plans with her somewhat soon. Consider it a sneak peak xD
As always, if you like the comic, please consider donating on my patreon. Even one dollar goes a long way.

Oh, I think you’ll notice things all right,
as you examine the prime pair of ours.
You’ll note that, unlike all the others,
these two come equipped with powers.
Kai also comes equipped with dignity;
a thing that our Kaya sometimes lacks;
from sleeping with her foot up his nose
to the way she eats those mid-day snacks.
Benji has to pay for our Kai’s dream laughter
and Kai’s probably started working on the plan.
Whatever he thinks of, one thing’s for certain;
it’ll all be carried out with considerable élan.
Nice poem, as usual, Welshy. I’m not usually a poetry -reader-, but I almost always read yours.
One suggestion on this one… In the second line; did you consider using “this” instead of “the”?
Any particular reason for choosing “the” instead of “this”? Just curious. 🙂
I did think about ‘this’ but these two are the ‘definitive’ pair of the series.
That’s true, and the poem isn’t any less great for it 🙂
Who has time for dressing rooms? There is science to be done (and things to set on fire)!
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake
And the science gets done
And you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive
Still alive…. still alive
The cake is a lie!!
Somebody played Portal. No Swimming!
Now these points of data make a beautiful line
And we’re out of beta we’re releasing on time
So I’m glad. I got burned
Think of all the things we learned
For the people who are
Still alive
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you’ll find someone else to help you.
…
Maybe Black Mesa.
That was a joke, haha, FAT CHANCE.
Anyway, this cake is great,
It’s so delicious and moist!
Look at me still talking when there’s science to do
When I look out there it makes me GLaD I’m not you
I’ve experiments to run, there is research to be done
On the people who are still alive
You started something xD

Stiil Alive
Tribute by Eric W. Schwartz
Take the temperature ………. in the mouth , please ^_^”
Check for any hybrid specific things …….. NOT THE STRENGTH , NOT THE STRENGTH XD
Yea : Benji has tricked you , Kay ^_^
Kaya equal to herself and acting as in home …….. ^_^”
Last thing : i love their shirts
Kaï , not Kay ; sorry
But ; now i think about , i was expecting to see Kaya wearing her T-rex shirt ^_^”
I want a T-Rex shirt like that ^^
I could always have them printed?
You should totally print that one and the dragon inside shirt OwO
Especially the strength xD
I’m glad you like the shirts. I try coming up with new ones now and then ^^
If you see a doctor in a wall in the next strip , that’s because he has tested Kai strength XD ^_^”
Hopefully the doctors have learnt from examining other hybrids.
Otherwise the knee jerk reaction test could very painful.
There were many broken noses before they figured out the need to wear a helmet and face guard during that test.
Panel 3: There should be commas at the ends of “technically” and “gown”.
Panel 4: “Hybrid specific” should be hyphenated and there be a comma at the end of “that”.
Thanks for spotting that. I uploaded the wrong version. I have a corrected one that I’ll upload in a minute.
Hospitals provide gowns. One of the reasons it’s better than a local doctor. Doesn’t sound like a full check up which could be more informative with hybrids. Running full blood work would also be useful to establish base line levels for future comparison. They likely have the most frequent hybrids almost as well researched as normal humans by now but the less frequent types at best they might have a few results that don’t give a full range for established healthy results. Unique species like the twins should cause a lot of commotion.
I doubt this will go as advertised.
I wonder how tough their skin is. Covered in smooth scales could make getting a blood sample more challenging.
“Okay, now I am just going to get a blood sample. This may sting a bit.” Inserts the needle which starts bending. *POINK* “Oops. Sorry about that. Let’s see. Can you open your mouth? I think we need to get your blood sample from there.”
Kai replies, “do you have an fire-proof gloves? You may want to wear them before you stick a needle in my mouth.”
A friends wife is a vet.
I asked about injections for reptiles.
The scales can be quite tough and they do not want to damage them.
The needle is inserted at an angle, under the edge of the scale and into the underlying skin.
It’s indeed a full checkup. Not every little thing will be shown though, for story reasons.
They have a pretty good idea about most hybrids by now, that’s true ^^
Pfffft LOL at Kaya! Kai taking things fairly well in stride so far though now he definitely owes Benji a…. oh a bit of a small prank as payback.
Doc: “check your temperature…” And then my brain got to wondering: ya know I wonder if in the next comic, depending on Kai’s doc sense of humor, we see a scene like the following.
A female nurse walking down the hallway outside the exam rooms, checking things off on her clipboard full of notes. As she starts to pass Kai’s room she is suddenly startled, nearly dropping her clipboard, by a loud exclamation of “THERMOMETER GOES WHERE?!” coming from Kai’s room.
Kinda doubt Robin would do that to one of her main characters but it would still be funny! XD
Oooh-ho-ho! I -like- that thermometer idea! 🙂
(pssstt! “He”. 😉 )
MD: “Your ear. It goes in your ear. It’s faster and more accurate that way.”
Meanwhile:
MD: “Nurse, she’s using fire on the thermometer.”
Kaya: “Aw, how’d you know?”
MD: “Young lady, I’ve seen enough hybrids to know their body temperature variations, and I’m sure your core temperature is not 1240 degrees.”
Actually not that unreasonable for a dragon if they take the temperature in the mouth. xD
Yeah, that might be a bit high xD
Haha, that thermometer idea xD
I had something similar in mind. Don’t know yet if I’ll add it though.
Next strip where we’ll see Kai fight against the nurse and saying : “- This thing will go in my mouth” ^_^”
“Kai; take that thing out of your mouth! You don’t know where it’s been.” 😉
As funny as that joke is, temperature is normally taken via the ear, using an electronic thermometer.
Rectal thermometers are only used in rare cases.
These are when you cannot get an accurate reading via the ear and there is the possibility that the patient will chew and break an oral thermometer.
In an anethesia elective we used an esophageal probe for temperature on a patient who was under general anesthetic. Yes, it goes in the mouth…and goes down quite a bit further.
The good news is that the patient is well out of it before we even get that far.
Ha, reminds me of my first exam at a dermatologist. They just told me to strip, so I did… they probably should have mentioned how far. lol Some people just don’t care if others see them naked. Never had a changing room at any doctor, they just leave the room for a while.
My doctor doesn’t have a changing room either, but bigger centers do tend to have them.
Well, to be fair, if you’re at a dermatologist, you do expect them to want to see your skin, so the less you’re wearing, the better, right? xD
I’ve seen people with their clothes off.
I’ve seen people with their SKIN off.
It’s called gross anatomy class, and it’s a requirement. Please put the pepper spray down.
Well, Kaya *did* say that she’s the stupid one.
And, apparently, she also the less-inhibited one…
It comes with the territory, I guess
I keep forgetting Kaya’s a girl. I guess even Kaya does too.
Selective forgetfulness :p
I just realized something if one of the twins decided to pick up smoking they won’t need a lighter or machetes
“machetes”?? They going to harvest their own tobacco? LOL
Just teasin’ ya, Blackfox96! I expect you just got in a hurry, but really meant “matches”. 🙂
Or autocorrect. That does the weirdest corrections sometimes :p
That’s true. Let’s hope they don’t, though :p
I guess Kaya really doesn’t LISTEN 😉
Nope, she doesn’t :p
Hey! Hey! Listen! xD
To quote Looney Toons: “Keep your shirt on lady!”
Nono, the shirt has to come off. But in the designated dressing room and you need to wear the gown xD
I’m waiting for then to ask for specifications on what lizard they are and for kai/kaya to drop the bomb on them.
jump to the lobby, the radio is playing “🎵burn, baby burn!🎵” and a doctor runs out with his coat in fire 👌
reference to scene from Bedtime Stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkDqjqe_e_c
Pfff, haha xD Talk about literally dropping the bomb xD
I love those shirts, especially Kaya’s.
And yes, Benji is a troll.
Hybrid specific things, so, strength, scales, ears, fire breathing.
It will be interesting to see the twins react differently to the same things.
Tail length and weight :p
Thanks, always love to design some shirts for the comic 😀
“Sorry, Kai, did someone tell you that a checkup was like a Customs inspection? Unlike those places, there are certain holes we have no reason to enter. At worst, we might draw some blood. That’s about it.”
In the other room…
“I meant you have to WEAR the gown, Kaya!”
Oh, well, let’s not tell Kai that. No need to make him more nervous xD
Kaya, those gowns are not optional xD
Hey, a blood draw isn’t that bad. One stick, draw the vials, done. If the twins have good veins, it’s easy enough. Diagnostic blood draws use tiny needles (20-22ga). Most likely the worst thing is not letting the alcohol dry before sticking the needle in, I’ve only had that happen to me twice, and I never let it happen to a patient I’m doing a stick on. (One, it’s poor practice because the alcohol must dry to properly clean the site, and two, unlike the needle, that stuff really does hurt.)
I let it slip that I’d had phlebotomy training before med school…the nurses handed off a lot of draws to me after that.
Miss Romero the dressing room is there for a reason. Please use it. And please stop dancing!
lol, don’t make her into a stripper xD
RN: “Miss Romero, that is NOT what the IV pole is for!”
MD: “Kaya Romero, it’s…um…okay, well, we can get the physical exam done quickly…”
LOL That “Ancient Dragon” t-shirt makes me think we missed a bet in that museum arc. Why was there no prehistoric cave-painting of a dragon??? 🙂
…and Kai’s not old enough to wear an “-Ancient- Dragon” t-shirt!
He might not be old enough, but that doesn’t stop him from liking the dragon image xD
Might Kaya get hold of Kai’s “Dragon Inside” t-shirt and scribble the word “Ancient” in front of “Dragon”? 😉
Robin why didn’t you answer my comments in the comics before the last one near the bottom?. Is it my fake name. Please don’t ignore me
Hey Toby. It’s just a case of bad timing. I usually comment on comments the day after I post the comic, and then sporadically go back and look at later comments. Don’t take it personal, I’m not ignoring you 🙂
Thanks have you read my comments in the liftoff comic? I am glad you don’t see Kaya in the panel cause who wants to see her in underwear
I just went back, I replied to one of your comments and I answered on your questions there. Maybe you didn’t get a notification of that?
Yeah, we don’t want Kaya in her underwear. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to see that, but that is not what I want to do with the comic xD
Man, vacation messes with your schedule. Hopefully I’ll be back to remembering what day is Monday and actually commenting in time to make Robin’s rounds in the upcoming comics. Either way I’ve loved following the twins’ adventure through the wonderful world of medical checkups over the last few weeks. Lots of amazing character designs, new species, new scenery, and Robin pulls it all off like a pro. This comic never fails to amaze me, and always seems to constantly be one-upping itself on detail. Should be interesting to see just how the doctors react in the upcoming weeks to their first interaction with a pair of dragons. I can hardly wait! DRAW FASTER ROBIN! (Joking. It’s already mind blowing the speed at which Robin pumps out such incredible works.) Keep up with your amazing art, and as always, stay awesome!
Thanks Alpha 😀
I always try to make the comic the best I can, so it can gradually increase in quality ^^
Luckily I got next week’s page ready already. We got a heatwave here in Belgium and my productivity grinded to a halt xD Trying to do what I can, but it’s hard :p
Hope you had a great vacation!
WT OMG ………… New way to respond for Robin : from the end 0_o
That’s for trick us ? ^_^”
Yes, most definitely xD
Felt like switching it up :p
I guess Kaya isn’t that big on modesty.
“Miss Romero, the gown goes on the OTHER way!”
Hey! Listen!
