Way to break the Italian Ice!!
That far South, it probably doesn’t require much effort. 😜
“Gelato”, please XD
The answer is ‘two gelato’s’
if you play your cards right.
After all, if you only buy one,
will she let you have a bite?
She’s got his humour down,
laughing whilst using her name.
This is something done all her life.
She’s made it into a game.
Touring the town with a friend;
showing her the entire scene
I hope Kai recalls one thing.
In this, it’s OK to be green…
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
With a name like that, I’d be surprised otherwise. ‘Tis best to own it.
In the first two panels it looks like she’s making him wait on purpose. He has that “please say yes” nervous smile.
Of course she is! “I’m gonna be messin’ with you ALL DAY, boy.” He’d better get used to it.” If Kai learns to roll with it, she’s gonna hang around because being with Kai is fun.
I wonder how often she’s going to play that joke. 🤔🤔🤔
As often as Kaii …err NEAR can think of one? 🙂
I guess she knows (and recieved) all variations and is not adverse to use them herself.
Near made up most of them herself. 🙂
Come to think of it, I sort of use that trick myself to help avoid unwanted types of nickname. When introduced as “Ed” I’ll reply to the first one who uses the name, grin at them and say, “That’s -MR.- Ed to you!” Doesn’t always work, but often enough. And when it doesn’t, they usually laugh at the joke. 🙂 ….and then one will ask just what the joke is. 😉
Better that than Ed, Edd, and Eddy?
Until Kai dumps her. Then it’ll be a Near Miss. >:->
Sometimes I forget how young these kids are. Of course she’s not sick of that joke yet.
Ok she’s a keeper if she is willing to make silly puns using her name! Think they’re going to have a great time together.
A young girl doing “bad-dad joke” puns, what’s the world coming to? LOL! Kai’s a bit slow, but like the rest of us, he didn’t expect it.
I like her even more now.
This one is a keeper, treat her well ^^
Mission accomplished! Kai now has his first date and they’re heading out for gelato. Kai best be prepared for Kaya and Annabella spilling the beans about his first date to their family, Kai’ll be suffocated with excited relatives and embarrassment. It seems Near and Kai share a sense of humor, if Near’s willingness to make puns about her name is an indicator. I hope their gelato date goes well!
Near’s reaction in panel 1 cracks me up.
The little blep in panel 6 gives it away. ”I’m gonna be messin’ with you ALL DAY, boy.”
I’m really liking Near, she seems to have a great personality, add on to that, a good sense of humor. It nice to see people comfortable cracking silly jokes.
Two of a Kind xD
At least we can be relatively sure that no matter how this turns out, they will enjoy each others company 🙂
I think Kai is a hit with his Near miss.
Good one. 🙂
Oh, my god, I just realized how this is gonna go.
Kai and Kaya are well-known and probably beloved among the citizens of this small sleepy town. The fact that they are bright green breathe fire, and are nice kids only helps their notoriety.
Kai turning up separately with a pretty girl (who also really stands out) in tow is gonna become instant news.
Kaya being asked incessantly “where’s your brother” with her replying “he’s on a date” is gonna do the same thing.
By the time Kai gets home his whole family is gonna know about it.
Shopkeepers who know Kai and Kaya are gonna pull out all the stops for the happy couple. Dinner? For two? They will end up at the “lover’s table” with candlelight. Gelato? An extra helping (or sprinkles) for the “bella fidanzata”.
Near is either gonna love it or she’s gonna feel all the attention. Hopefully her sense of humor is strong. (We have every indication it is.)
Objust: I grew up in a small town like this.
Yeah, I can see word getting around quickly too….
“Hey, did you know the Dragon Twins are back?”
“Oh yes, but they aren’t travelling together at the moment….”
“Oh?”
“Yes, word is he helped a young tourist Hybrid girl translate her order at ????????’s place, and now they’re roaming around together…..”
I wanna see these two on the scooter, with their tails entwined and blowing in the breeze. That would make a helluva wallpaper.
I posted this in next week’s comic thread, but it fits perfectly here. Please pardon the repost.
Here’s the comic I hoped to get Monday: I’m not complaining, please don’t take it that way.
I just started typing and this whole thing fell out. Hopefully some of you will enjoy it.
Panel 1, row 1
Kai and Near having gelato.
Panel 2 row 1
Kai and Near looking at comics in a comic book store. Near is looking at a Tintin comic.
Crossing from Panel 1 to Panel 2, over the boundaries:
Kai and Near on the scooter, Kai is driving fast. Near, wearing the helmet, is holding on to Kai’s waist, resting her left cheek on Kai’s back, eyes squinched shut, but a smile on her face. Their tails are blowing in the wind.
Panel 3, row 2
Kai and Near walking on the beach in deep conversation. Near is wearing her hat. Each is holding their shoes on one hand and the two of them are holding hands.
Panel 4, row 2
Evening. Kai and Near, framed in the front window of a restaurant, are sitting at a small table for two. There is a lit candle between them. Bread is waiting on the table but Kai and Near are deep in conversation.
Crossing from panel 3 to Panel 4 over the panel boundaries:
Near and Kai on the scooter, Near is driving more slowly now. Kai has his hands on her waist. Their tails are intertwined. Both are smiling.
And the comic I hoped to get next week:
Kai and Near standing in front of a hotel room door.
NEAR: I had a great time tonight.
KAI: Me too. Thanks for going out with me.
Near kisses Kai on the cheek.
NEAR: Will I see you tomorrow?
KAI: I’d like that.
In a fit of courage, Kai leans forward, stands on tiptoe, and kisses Near on the lips. Near puts her straight arms on Kai’s shoulders as they kiss.
Va bene. Mi piace questa idea. … Dov’è ice cream su questo menu?
To be fair, maybe she’ll be OK with it. But for some, gelato can be a bit of a culture shock. Wait, you’re saying they have all the sorbet I could ask for, but they don’t have ice cream? (I realize sorbet tends to be made with different ingredients and it’s kept in the machine longer, but it’s the closest non-Italian ice cream thing I could think of.)
My response to gelato the first time was that ice cream was never good enough again.
