Came across a story on Not Always Right that presents a perfect solution to Astrid’s problem. Short version: kid pranks his father by making him think his brand-new computer is broken, and a technician comes out before he fesses up. Kid is punished by Dad saying he won’t get the present he wants for his birthday (he does, in fact, get it two days later, as much time as Dad had to go without a computer).
Astrid could easily just withhold the presents until tomorrow.
Or… they get them next year, and the comic goes on hiatus until then no no no bad idea don’t listen to me
I like the idea below about the “impregnable fortress” and making a video game roleplay out of it.
We finally get a conflict! (Even though it is just a timer)
Well, it’s an obvious trick,
meant to raise the pulse
but losing the presents here
is an idea to revulse.
She didn’t plan for this;
being heckled by Rex and Nate
(although the desire to end him
is often the Human’s fate.)
So go! Run through the town
in search of your birthday crown!
But remember, it’s all the same
and, after all, it’s only a game.
For some reason, I particularly like this one. 🙂 It so fits the feel of today’s strip.
Lol, poor Astrid. Welcome to the group.
The Twins don’t seem to mind the stakes, is it confidence in finding all the gifts in time? They both are excited, Kaya’s tail is wagging/fwipping, while Kai remains as stoic as usual. I wonder how they all feel about Cleo’s comments about learning to appreciate them and ignore them. Probably both happy and a little depressed about how true it is. Maybe as a penalty for not finding the presents in time, Rex and Benji could have their fur dyed pink! They could even borrow Nate’s hair products.
The hunt is almost on and luckily for our birthday boy and girl, the Dragon Knights’ party has 4 people who can sniff out the loot! Reptiles have an excellent sense of smell, so Class 3 Dragons should possess a greater olfactory sense than most Humans; with noses taking a good portion of their faces (as snoots), Benji and Rex should possess similar capabilities to Kai and Kaya’s humongous noses/snouts/snoots.
Well, Nate could recommend the brand, but I don’t think they could just use his stock. He specifically mentions in the Q&A that the company he uses makes hybrid-specific options; I feel like applying human hair products to animal/hybrid fur is a good way for something to go wrong (even if that “going wrong” is as mild as the color not taking).
It will at least apply to their scalps. I think that portion of their hair is closer to human hair in texture.
Daniel here, admittedly late but I’ve been busy…
Having a good look at Rex & Benji, it looks like they have “normal Human” hair on top of their heads in the traditional location, but the rest would be fur. Traditional hair colouring would be most likely to work there, but might not be as lucky elsewhere as DTIBA suggested. What I’m curious about is if there has to be special dyes for fur since traditional stuff won’t work on fur, would fur dyes work on normal Human hair? I’m thinking probably would work fine, but would also be more expensive, being “custom made for fur” = companies charge more…
Well; Clementine does model fur-dye. So, I’m guessing you are right. Fur-dye would probably work fine on human hair, but hair-dye might not be as good for fur (in TD universe anyway :-)). Which brings up another thought…
IRL there was a shampoo specifically for horses’ manes & tails, and it became quite popular with humans. Trick is, stuff like that only intended for animals does not have as many tests and restrictions to pass before being approved (by the FDA?) for sale for use on humans. Some Rules & Regulations gonna hafta change! 🙂
It would be funny to see the twins solve all the riddles in next to no time, to the astonishment of everyone but Cleo and Benji (something tells me those two already figured out how good the twins are at problem solving) only to get completely stumped at the clue that is the answer to the riddle; a set of real, “wow, they must be geniuses” moments immediately followed by “how can they not know this” moments.
I’m sure that would give Astrid a little crisis in her confidence; but to be fair, this is her first time meeting the twins and she only had whatever Cleo had for her to go off on. The next time she plans for the twins, she’ll likely take their observed quirks and eccentricities into account, along with the personalities of their friends. Kind of bummer Jin didn’t come along for the party, maybe next year, or they’ll meet Jin during the treasure hunt and invite him to the party.
Prediction: Jin -is- the party! 🙂
Yeah, presents are actually ar jins house/dojo thing and they have to ‘fight’ him for the presents
Well, Kai can solve a 4×4 Rubik’s cube in a single panel/about a minute in his semi-lucid dream world. Kaya herself has admitted to Kai being the brains of the pair. I think the twins may like riddles and puzzles, so that would give them a fun challenge.
Maybe Jim will show up later, he’s pretty shy. He also could have prior engagements, so that might make him late if he were to come. And Katsumi will stare angrily at Benji again.
Jin, not jim
Autocorrect. Annoying how it doesn’t recognize names like Rex, Kaya, Benji, or even Nate, let alone Jin, without me correcting it.
Don’t be so meany and questioning , Rex : try to relax and have fun ^_^”
She should have said the presents would be donated to charity😊
So Jesse’s adventure is a MOVIE in-universe of TwinDragon comic?
And here I was thinking it was the key to understanding the hybrid phenomenon (admittedly “magic!” Usually isn’t the best way to do it, but Robin put in the work to make the druids make enough sense that I’d accept it. After all the reason for the phenomenon is only tangential to the story anyway) guess I’m going to have to put ?s on my last few data points.
Hybrid, hmm try this

The lesson Astrid should learn from this is to make it obvious what’s real and what’s pretend. When she said that evil knights have stolen the presents, nobody called the police because everybody understood that there are no actual evil knights. If she had said that in five hours the evil knights will move the presents to an impregnable fortress, instead of just stating that the presents will be lost forever, then I’m sure Rex would have understood that she won’t throw the presents away.
… where they will be kept until just before the *END* of the party?
I mean, I think that all of the people who brought presents want to see the twins open them, so at the actual end of the party or later is untenable.
Or, make the “impregnable fortress” a type of video game “bad ending,” and in order to “continue,” they have to get “tokens” by doing something mildly embarrassing, like dressing in goofy costumes.
World Guide, paragraph 2: There should be a comma at the end of “something”.
Paragraph 3: Ditto “caretaker”. Also, “already available” should be hyphenated.
I’m no expert, but the comma after “caretaker” is the only one that seems necessary. The one after “something” breakers the flow of the sentance out loud. The hyphen looks like it could be optional
Comma after “something”: No
Comma after “caretaker”: Optional; but, if you do use it, you probably need to delete the one after “Hybrid City” to make the sentence read smoothly.
hyphenating “already available”: Optional
Okay, seriously, among the skill sets they have, if you put any party including the twins in an escape room, they’ll hack the system and find an alternate solution even before resorting to brute strength and fire.
