Well, Misha, I’ve got good news and bad news.
The good news is that Kai is the quiet twin.
The bad news is that you still have to deal with Kaya.
Kaya brings her usual cheer
to the desk of disappointment.
Missing Misha, who’s not there
and bringing her a brand new fear.
The trouble is double with a bro
brought to this place of quiet content.
This place of silent sanctity where
all that’s seen and not said for show.
How will the Russian react to Kai?
Will she detect his calm intent?
Will she recover from this scare?
Will she see he’s really a great guy?
“Foul cur! To ‘The Desk of Disappointment’ with you!!” 🙂
As I was going up the stair,
I met Misha! who wasn’t there.
She wasn’t there again today,
Alas; poor Misha, has gone astray.
I think Misha will appreciate Kai’s personality; it seems more compatible with her own; although, the personalities of the twins usually tend to complement each other, most of the time.
Kai – “It’s nice to meet you.”
Misha – “They’re multiplying!!!”
Hopefully she’ll find out that Kai’s the more calm and level-headed one.
Made me think of an old Buggs Bunny cartoon. 🙂
This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them!
Yes, two! It’s *Twin Dragons!* – roll credits
She’s about to swear in loud whispers, if she can remember to keep her voice down. I figured this would be her reaction, though it’s a bit too early to see if she’ll bolt. Better introduce yourself to Misha fast, Kai, she may be about to vacate the area. Not sure if Misha will be able to tell the difference between Kai and Kaya, though hopefully Mandy (Misha’s girlfriend) is nearby to help Misha with her studies.
I’ve found Kaya and Misha to be similar in terms of personality, both being huge goofballs, though Kaya is definitely the more energetic of the two and with less emotional baggage.
I’m sure Misha will be relieved to learn Kai is far more mellow than Kaya.
Panel 3: Add a comma to “student”.
Beneath panel 6: Ditto “Oh”, like in the Russian.
Panel 3: No.
Panel 6 + below: The Russian and English versions should match, but they can go with or without the comma, depending on how the writer wants it to read.
“ Panel 3: Add a comma to “student”.”
Yeah, no, that’s completely wrong. ‘She’s a student as well’ is all one clause, and ‘as well’ would not classify as an appositive, so putting a comma here would not work in this instance.
I love Misha’s sudden transition from calm annoyance to surprise and dismay in the last panel.
The fifth panel makes me think of the movie Inglourious Basterds – it looks odd because Americans don’t count to three on our fingers that way. Not sure if it’s a simple mistake because Robin is Belgian, or if it’s intentional and Russians count thumb-first too, so Misha would have learned it that way from her family.
“Drei Gläser!”
Maybe she knows ASL where 3 is shown with those 3 fingers. The thumb is moved going from two to three.
I think most of Europe is counting thumb first so why not Russians. Apparently, Middle East starts with pinky. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger-counting
I had a history teacher once that counted from his pinky.
I think I have known (fellow) Americans who count thumb first. What trips me up about that method is what happens when you get to four–I have to dig my pinky into my palm to keep it from following my ring finger automatically. Much easier if I can use the thumb to hold it down till I need it.
Kaya’s reaction in panel 5 reminds me to the “DOGGY!” from the webcomic Freefall.
And while Misha’s reaction to Kai is understandable, I think she should get along with him once she gets to know him better. And I guess Kaya will drag her in the study group – willing or not.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought that looked like a reaction to a Bowman’s Wolf.
I liked this reaction. http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3700/fc03673.htm
I found out later that it was a reverence to another movie.
Wouldn’t be the first time there’s been a Freefall reference in this comic. Rex often gets called a “Doggy,” much to his (already high) grumpiness.
Love the comic and the characters. I do have one issue and its more a personal issue than anything. When Misha walks up to the desk she would be able to see Kaya and Kai standing there. she could see they were both unique dragon hybrids and not quite identical. so her surprised reaction in panel six does not make much sense.
From the way Kaya is facing when Misha walked up, it’s -possible- that Kai was mostly hidden behind her, from Misha’s point of view, until Kai stepped up next to Kaya. (…any stretch to save the joke. ;-))
My half brother on my mom’s side can relate to misha, though in his case it was “OH NO! There’s five of him!”
Misha is now in double jeopardy.
On their first meeting, Misha told Kaya “No friendship requests when I’m at work, please”. https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/archive-dive/
Only now she’s admitted to not being at work, so she has no excuse. Or escape.
All I can say is, Het is not what I first saw, thought it was some of Marty’s sugar honey ice tea from Madagascar
So that’s what “nyet” looks like in Cyrilic characters…
Don’t worry, Misha
Kai’s nothing like his sister
