Well, I’m pleasantly surprised that that happened. But now Kai’s really fricked, if Kahn expects him to solve a Rubik’s Cube.
The four by four is actually easier than the three by three or five by five.
Im sure Kai has this.
I don’t know if Kai has it, but dream-Cleo very well might do.
It’s actually called a Rubik’s Revenge and I encountered one as a teen.
Before you were in your prime, j?
I’ll admit it was before I started using this handle, but I was a teen then, too; over half my life ago, in fact.
You’re being semantic. The number of people who care whether a Rubik’s cube larger than 3×3 is formally called a Rubik’s cube are a minority.
IF_I_RECALL_CORRECTLY:
Step_1: Align the 8_Corners – this step is key.
Step_2: The aligned corners will guide you in positioning the 4_Squares of each face’s Center_Color.
Step_3: Bring pairs of Edges together, then place the pair (as if one piece) between the proper pair of corners.
3A: Start with the 4_Edges of one color.
3B: Next solve the 4_Edges that are perpendicular to that first color.
3C: The remaining 4_Edges are all parallel to the first color.
Note:
Some instructional guides suggest completing Step_2 AFTER Step_3.
“YMMV”, so do as you think best.
Maybe Kai nows the algorithms xD
The rope tailed shock
spreads on his face
as his brother
shows him his place.
The mighty roar
as he is scorned
tells of revenge.
Kai? You be warned.
And now for Karn;
gaming the cube.
Play like a great.
Don’t be a rube.
It’s a game cube ……………… Sorry , Nintendo ^_^”
I notice it’s a 4×4 cube, rather than the original 3×3. Interesting.
4×4 seemed more challenging :p
4³ Rubriks Cube? Ugh.
yeah, it’s hard xD
At least he wasn’t handed a 4x4x4x4 Rubik’s hypercube.
How many months does he have to solve it?
That’s a very good point.
If there’s no time-limit, then all Kai needs is patient determination.
I think we can expect some time cards to be shown.
I will not be able to read those time cards without hearing the voice of the Spongebob Squarepants narrator.
He don’t have weeks much less months, remember the whole point is to go ask the goddess to send the village rain, they need that rain now not in a month.
Not many xD
It’s all a dream…time isn’t really a factor in dreams
So is the challenge to make all sides the same color? Cuz black is a color.
Are you suggesting he singe the cube to char all the sides? #CuttingTheKnot
In seriousness though, the objective of a Rubik’s Cube is to make all the squares on ONE side the same color, with six different colors around the six sides.
Nah. Just peel off the coloured stickers and put all those of each colour on each face of the cube.
It’s a dream, lol. Think about a floating cube whirring to the correct way, and it’ll happen. Abracadabra.
yeah, but I doubt that’s gonna be allowed xD
Heh, Khan doesn’t like watching Kon do the same moves over and over!
Khan to Kon: learn something new! Please!
Again something unexpected with Khan’s challenge, guess we get to see how good Kai is at puzzles.
If you have to watch the same old dance moves every time, you’ll be glad to see something fresh xD
Just break the cube and rebuild it with colors on the correct sides easy
I doubt Khan will allow that xD
*ROAR*
Next: the cube!
The hexahedron :p
Panel 5: There should be some form of punctuation at the end of “Hexahedron”.
Jesse’s Adventure, panel 3: Probably change “here” to “there”, definitely put a comma at the end of it.
Thanks for spotting the mistakes ^^
We haven’t seen him do this on camera, but some can do this in seconds.
I know the theory behind it but I still can’t solve one no matter how hard I try.
Once you know how to, it can be easy for some ^^
Don’t roar/scream/cry , Kon : you’re in Kai’s dream . Maybe it’s not the thing to reveal , but i don’t care XD
The trick : Kai has just to dismantle the hexahedron and rebuild it correctly ^_^”
Wonder how he would react to being told he’s only a dream entity xD
Ah, typical brothers XD Anyway, still pve the idea of these two being brothers 😀
*love
Thanks 😀 They are a good duo to put together ^^
It’s a shame Lion-Rex didn’t chuck the bongos down the giant staircase, because that would have made some amazing noises.
Then the villagers would have thought that the goddess was cooking up a thunderstorm, and fretted over whether that’s good because it will finally rain, or bad because the goddess must be really angry now.
Now I want to see that. Just bongos spiraling through the air tumbling down the side of a mountain. Any outside onlookers would be so confused.
Bongo all the way down the stairs xD
“This is rigged” he says a moment after he demanded special treatment for being the judge’s brother. 🙂
I understand “win by default” to mean that the opponent failed to show up or otherwise didn’t compete, but Kon did compete so that’s not the case here. If Khan means a choice made in the absence of an alternative – that is, Kon must not win, and that leaves only Kai, so Kai wins – then Khan admits being partial against Kon right after he said he must be impartial. It seems that they’re both equally hypocritical.
Win by default for “impartial” judges can mean anything they want, though :p
Kon is not used to losing out on his dance moves. The villagers only know a variation of the hula dance, so he always wins xD
I love the tiny .5 sign instead of just going for the standard whole number. Very creative little touch there. Looks like Kai was right about “if he believes he can dance, then he can dance” considering the whole dream environment. This next one, however, will be more interesting. A 4×4 Rubik’s cube has very rigid rules, so solving it won’t just be a matter of conviction assuming his dream still obeys things like the laws of physics. Kai is actually going to need to solve this. Fortunately, it’s implied that he knows what he’s doing. If in his mind the colors are just randomly placed, it could be impossible to find a solution. Or unfortunately if that is the case. We’ll have to find out. Either Kai will get past this no problem, or he’s facing an impossible challenge within his own mind. He seems like the kind of person who would enjoy a puzzle, so I’m leaning towards the first option. Great job as always Robin! The expressions in some of these panels are absolutely priceless. (Especially that roar!) Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
“assuming his dream still obeys things like the laws of physics” … that would be extremely weird. Most dreams don’t, and due to them being limited by what sleeping mind can hold, only people who could actually dream about solving Rubik’s cube in proper way would be the ones who can do it awake while blindfolded: ordinary person would just keep forgetting which piece is which.
So, the solution is exactly same as the dance: you only need to move the cube and believe you can do it.
Actually, ANY challenge in dream can be overcamed if you believe you can do it. It’s all in your head.
But Hey! That’s just a theory! A thought theory! (Not Sorry)
In my dreams I control what happens (also f**k physics this is a dream he should be able to FLY right now)
Thanks for the kind words, Alpha. We will have to see if Kai can solve this or not 😀
Something about the way Rah’aba Hexahedron sounds just gets me. Like a Yu-Gi-Oh! card. Imagine hearing someone like Yami Yugi say that.
The Abridged version of course, parodies like that have taken over how I hear certain characters, especially from YGO! and DBZ. And Naruto.
Abridged series are abominatory insults against respectable and enjoyable series*, and anyone who prefers an abridgement over the original series** should have their head shoved through a drum.
* Which does NOT mean they’re not funny, only that they are disrespectful. It’s possible to be both.
** “Original series” in this context refers to the series as it was intended by its creators; prefering an abridgement over a poorly-handled dub of a translated work or an adaptation suffering from developmental troubles does not apply
Sao abridged did have better writing though
Enjoy the circles of hell. I’ll send the Doom Slayer after you’ve gotten comfortable.
You damn well better be judging based on a mangled translation. That jackass abridged series turned a deliberately valuable world into the product of shoddy development, transformed a meaningful romance arc into a jerkass game of chicken, invalidated the circumstances and impact of several major events, and ruined several meaningful characterizations. Frick that atrocity with a knife, burn the corpse, and scatter the ashes in orbit around the sun.
All I’m saying was I was genuinely bored watching sao. The animation and battles were great, don’t get me wrong, but kirito’s near invincibility and the fact he was collecting girls like pokemon kinda devalued the steaks and romance plot respectively. Also it’s pretty clear the author didn’t understand how MMOs worked and it effected the writing. I’m not gonna get in an internet fight over this though, so I hope you can understand my reasoning.
Re:Cliff – “Near invincibility” is overstating it, but everyone has their own opinion on how well a protagonist survives a situation. That said, you’re blatantly misunderstanding his romantic inclinations. He’s not “collecting girls”; he loses his first love in a tragic occurrence and enters a faithful relationship with Asuna. The others’ attraction is nothing that he can control and he doesn’t do anything deliberate to encourage or bait them; he tries to be a friend to them, nothing more. As someone who has been on the unrequited end of being attracted to a decent person who has 5+ other admirers, I can sincerely say that there’s nothing “collective” about Kirito’s romantic life, and anyone who thinks there is has been viewing too many Rule34 works from the SAO fandom.
@Cliff: Your other points are questionable at best, but if you play MMOs regularly, then your disinterest is justified and I apologize. I have played exactly two different MMORPGs for a net total of no greater than one month, and they were wildly different enough for my knowledge of one to be completely useless in the other; consequentially, I accept the MMO world for what it is. In much the same way that, say, an archery enthusiast is within their rights to criticize fictional archers whose poor practices are portrayed as top-notch, an MMO player is within their rights to criticize a fictional MMO that inaccurately portrays the genre.
Khan: “You’ve activated my trap hexahedron” xD
Hi there, Daniel here. Started reading towards the end of “An Apple A Day”, tore through the archives 😜, and have been reading ever since. I was hoping to ask a quick question or 2 though, if that’s OK…
Is this set in a particular country? I get a USA vibe from a few things, including drivers position, working, etc. But it’s OK if it isn’t anywhere in particular, that works too…
Do Hybrids still have siblings? I know the main 2 characters are twins obviously 😋, but we are yet to see a Hybrid with an older Human sibling or even a Hybrid with Human/Hybrid younger siblings. Or 1 of each…
Thanks for any replies…
And I apologize in advance for anything my Cybertronian Minicon Screwball gets up to. He’s a lot better than he used to be, but he’s still learning how to play Human…
I’ve been thinking that Hybrid City is based off of San Francisco but that’s my guess.
Hey Daniel 😀 Welcome. Glad you enjoy the comic!
The story is set in the USA, where a new city called Hybrid City exists.
Hybrids can have siblings just like other children. The species “can” be the same, but they can also be different, so what you’re saying can happen.
Don’t we all love it when we are 100% prepared to be the first comment but then school cancels and you now cannot be happy due to your 37.6 new types of McThiccPression
kai. break it and put it back together correctly. all you need is a screwdriver. or just dream up that one rubix-solving robot.
I’m sure they won’t allow that xD
Man, I hate those things.
*gets the hammer*
If someone gave me a rubrik’s cube to solve I’d either pull it apart and put it back together solved or use a flame (not too close) to heat the glue holding the stickers on and peel them off, then place them back solved.
I know it’s rather simple once you know just a few moves, but I don’t have them memorized so I’d be screwed without a computer to remind me what they are.
Since Khan is throwing the bongos to Kon in the third panel , it would have been funny to hear “OWW” in the fourth one XD
You’ve missed the point , Robin ^_^”
Khan is throwing them over his head, not at Kon.
So, he has to solve a Rubix Cube
This is amazing
True! 🙂
I really do like the first panel and I am sorry english is not my first language so I can not really describe it. Kay’s slight little smile with the sparks, Benji’s/Kon’s erected tail and the adding panel 0.5. I was just laughing to death !
It’s the ra ra Rasputin hexahedron
So Kai solves the cube…and suddenly,
Doug Bradley Appears!!!
“The Box. You opened it. We came.”
You made this????
Someone else did the actual design work, but that’s what I produced from it. Took a few print attempts, then a lot of airbrushing and detail work with a sharpie.
Though I don’t think I have it quite right…when I summon Hell into my office, I keep getting Paul T. Taylor,, when I should be getting Doug Bradley.
Holy hexatheon, Batman. That’s a frickin’ amazing piece of artwork.
(Side note: I don’t know who Doug Bradley is)
He played the original leader of the Cenobites, named “Pinhead.” Paul T. Taylor was one of the later actors for that character.
A 4×4 tiled Rubik Cube? Lol.
I got two of those. One solved, one not. Never could do it.
But Cubist (met on the old Transformation Story Archive Mail List) was a whiz.
