The safety in tactics shows.
(Or Kaya would aim for the nose)
The respect for this guy grows
as he shows he can take her blows.
One point each on first run.
(on a beach, under the summer sun)
The challenge has only begun.
It’s not easy to just have fun.
Near needs to learn their ways.
(to know what everyone says)
How enthusiastically everyone plays
when they’re wasting their summer days.
“says” doesn’t rhyme with “ways”, “plays” or “days”, even if it looks like it should.
Depends how you says it(!)
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
A delightful time, and you’re right about Kaya. She’s a tricky foe.
So, first of all, thanks for explaining the points system of proper jousting. Haven’t had the chance to partake in any fiction that goes into that much detail.
Second of all, I love that – despite the fact that a grunt of pain or a yelp of surprise LOGICALLY shouldn’t change that much based on the speaker’s native language – Kaya and Al’s speech bubbles are still color-coded to show off each speaker’s primary language, because in a strenuous situation like that you WOULD default to your primary language regardless of the people around you.
Rincewind would disagree. 😛
There are, of course, ways to train yourself to use another language even for moments of extreme stress. But that’s for people who regularly deal with extreme stress and, for whatever reason, NEED to not use their primary language.
Or just for people to whom their secondary language is so internalised – they think in that language too.
I know I do, and would probably exclaim in whichever of the two I was using in the moment…
A momentary tie, bur things should swing in favor of one or the other soon.
Shoulder hit. Probably enough to knock your opponent well off balance. Let’s see how the second charge will go.
Hey, where’d that blackboard come from?! And where did Annabella get the lab coat and glasses?! How many rounds does this Jousting match have? And how many points do you need to win?
Both knights managed to land blows without falling off their steeds, it seems Allessandro has a better chance after all. Perhaps he won’t end up thrown into the water this time… It’s a good thing these kids are safety conscious, otherwise their parents would come down on them faster than Jupiter’s lightning. I wonder how Kaya and Kai’s resilience will play into this game, their bodies are quite a bit tougher than most people’s…
Don’t you store a blackboard in your hammerspace? They are very useful.
“If I were to guess, I would suggest that it was done using that unique property of highly random humour in which a character can spontaneously do just about anything as long as it’s part of the joke. […] I call it the gag reflex.”

I CANT STAND THE SUSPENSE ARRRRGGGHHH
Greetings, Kaya! and Welcome! 🙂
And, just out of curiosity, who is your favorite character? 😉
Give you three guesses. Im so similar to my namesake, its almost scary.
I really hope the stabby thing (don’t know the real name for it) is made out of foam or something. Mainly for Al’s safety.
“It’s called a lance. Helloooo…..”
Sorry, had to. A Knight’s Tale quote. Heath Ledger before he became the Joker and Paul Bettany before he became Marvel’s Jarvis & Vision….
Respect.
Whoops, forgot for a while there….
I’m thinking the “lances” are actually just brooms with pillows tied to the sweeping end. Start off with just the basic brooms with pillows, decorate them over time until they look how they are now. I’ll admit, I am curious about the actual materials used – cardboard or stiffer paper card for the cone? Foam maybe/eventually? Looks like the pillows are still fixed in place the same way as originally cause no need to change it if it works and you’ll have to change them over time….
On this page we can see the tip of Al’s lance where it meets the pillow. There’s no brush there. It may be that the lances were once broom handles, but in that case the brushes have apparently been removed.
I think an ordinary pillow is too soft to spread the force of the lance noticeably. Either those pillows are stiffer than they look, or they should have been backed by something broad and rounded.
Maybe something just inside the pillow case so it won’t show and spoil the effect?
Yeah, that could work. Unscrew the broom head/pull out the nails, hole in the pillowcase for the handle, reattach the broom head inside the pillowcase, insert pillow, lash in place, JOUST….
*Groan* Now I got Screwball wanting to set it up and try it, but nobody is going to be strong enough to carry me & my muscles, let alone someone a bit shorter than me and MADE OF METAL….. 😑
I just love that Allessandro says, “OOF!” in Italian. 🙂
No result in round one; back to square one. 😉
