The bond they have is super, Doc
(or, more accurately, Loc-tite)
as, when Kaya expresses remorse,
Kai has to put up a good fight.
It’s not so much fun when it’s yours,
the pinch and pull of the tail.
She knows that now, rightfully how,
the pain rockets right off the scale.
Accept her loving hugs, young Kai
or you know that she’ll clobber you.
After all, when showing remorse,
what else is a sister to do?
The Hug of Death! “Let me apologize for hurting you, or I will pound you!” LOL
“Looove Meeeeee!” – Fluttershy
“Now is coward killing time!” — Heavy Weapons Shy
Hehe, yeah, that one never gets old.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwp60eYuie0
Kayla, healing someone doesn’t require being so goddamn clingy. If anything that hug sounds like you’re going to suffocate him with your “kindness”.
Of course it does. She knows how tough their skin is now and he has to FEEL the love!
There´s a nice song about that, i think the title is “Love hurts” XD
There’s a lot of healing power being lost if the hug is not tight enough xD
Well, I hope the twins got stronger bones as well, because weak bones (or even of average human strength)+hugs of dragon strength…
Male Doctor: “That’s what being twins is like. You either hate each other’s guts, or grow an inseparable bond.”
Me: Or become to clingy and bipolar in nature. Siblings getting along together. What kind of fantasy are you on?
This interesting one called “reality”. Not everyone with a sibling wants them dead.
Actually, I would find “both” plausible. Siblings often have the “noone is allowed to hurt them except me” attitude.
In my experience, that’s because everyone has a very fine line between “friendly jab” and “actual harm”, and (barring some unfamiliar thresholds like Kaya has demonstrated with scale removal) siblings know where that line lies and how not to cross it.
Doc: “First, do no harm.”
Kaya: “What about second?”
I find it to be a pretty realistic scenario, though :p
it is realistic. kaya is like bubble gum. she is stuck to kai and she wont go away. its the same with her and cleo at school.
First comes sour,
then comes sweet.
Last comes crushing defeat.
Oh! I have hurt you!
Please let me aplogize!
Or crushing de feet.
crushing, yeah xD
Well , the doctors are excused because this is their first time with dragons ; but they doesn’t really seem to know it’s less painful to get scales from the thick skin : top of arms , shoulders , top of thighs and entire legs . To avoid principally : hands , paws-feet and tails
Maybe a mild topical anesthetic would help? Particularly in cases like the twins here to lessen the sting.
But.. But you guys are taking the funny out! 😉
I’ve stopped to be funny when one of my comment has been read to first degree and made me get barks from some persons . Now , i comment seriously
You shouldn’t care too much about barks from other people. If you want to be funny, you can be funny 😀
It was here : https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/mythical/ ; middle of the page
Since , i’ve not made anymore funny comments …………
No harm done, we all live and learn. And sometimes barks just require bark-skin. Happens to literally everyone, both online and offline.
I’ve seen this in a few stories regarding dragons, dragons only shed their scales once every 20 to 70 years. So dragons tend to shed between longer periods of time than most reptiles. So, just how long will it be before the twins experience their first shedding?
IF they ever shed at all, and it sounds like they don’t, it would probably have already happened. They are -primarily human- after all.
-I- wonder if Cleo sheds. Her scales seem to be much more prominent than Kai and Kaya’s.
I’d think being primarily human would make them shed less often, and quite possibly never due to what the time period normally is.
So far, they have not shed like reptiles do. Just like humans, they don’t shed. They have the odd piece of dry skin peel off, and maybe a scale or two would drop, but no real shedding.
So, it sounds like you’re saying they shed scales in a manner similar to how mammals shed hair and skin or birds shed feathers. A bet a lot of the Bird hybrids have a lot of issues to deal with, depending on just how similar to birds their physiology is individually.
Kaya moves in mysterious ways.
Absolutely xD
The Bond between Kai and Kaya is stronger than James XD 😛
It probably is xD
Nice of Kaya to apologize but in typical fashion, she’s going a bit overboard! You would think Kai would be used to it by now!
Kaya Bond! Stronger than superglue, sets up fast, always turns green with bright orange red streaks after drying! Binds extremely well to reptile scales for reasons we have yet to figure out! Kaya Bond, when you absolutely need a “unique” glue for arts & crafts!
Arts & Crafts like when crafting dragons from gourds. 🙂
Now there’s an idea… I’ve seen some ‘cute’ and some beautiful crafted dragons. None had glued on seeds though. I wonder just how long it would take to glue a layer of gourd-seed ‘scales’ to a crafted dragon. Might take a whole pot of Kaya-Bond! …And more patience than I will -ever- have! 🙂
At the mention of Kaya Bond, I pictured her as a secret agent xD
Could be a storyline for a shadowrun RPG session or something, infiltrate evil corporation and blow stuff up (blowing stuff up was not the mission) ^^
Benji would love to run that xD
Gotta love that sibling bonding/love.
Yeah, indeed 🙂
Just binged your archive, and I am loving this comic from the word go. Keep it up!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the comic 😀
Hah, describing twins isn’t easy. Suppose it’s like a mix of family and frenemy into one. Your greatest rival, closest family member and oldest friend. As you might guess, betrayal of someone such as this would sting badly so I can see where they could become great enemies. 🙂
Yeah, I can see how that would be the case 🙂
Kaya is so sweet.
Good thing she’s not a dog hybrid. Then she’d be insisting on licking it better.
Originally, I wanted her to kiss his tail better, but soon changed that as it would have been a bit weird xD
That’s Mama’s prerogative! 🙂
I know this isn’t relevant right now but I just gotta ask; what about the societal norms of facial and body hair? Do Rex and Benji plan on shaving anytime soon? Are the women referred to as hairy or anything?
Facial/body hair is very different from facial/body fur. And quite frankly, anyone judging a female by their facial/body hair in the first place probably has the same attitude towards hybrids as the frickers in the twins’ old hometown.
Maybe it’s composition is different but otherwise the “very different” thing just sounds like whimsy to me. Other animals besides humans don’t shave because they never developed enough of a culture or the technological developments to do so, while us humans still shave despite the fact that men grow facial hair and women grow hair on their arms and legs. And hybridss are all raised in human society and are basically humans who look like animals. So it makes sense that most parents wouldn’t pull the “oh sweety, you don’t need to shave because you’re a funny animal person” card on them. But then again, in real life kids with werewolf syndrome don’t bother shaving, it would be alot of trouble to keep your kids shaven especially when they’re a baby without hurting them, and apparently some parents try to pass their kids off as mythicals, not to mention the stuff people do in real life. I’m just curious about the dog face trope in this universe. C’mon, what do they look like when they shave!
It’s not just a matter of the composition; as far as we’ve seen, the head-top hair of hybrids with fur like Benji and Rex is quite distinct of that from non-furred hybrids like Cleo and the twins, and more reminiscent of a mane than a head of hair. Using appropriate animals for reference, the likelihood of similar formations in imitation of facial hair would be rather unlikely. And using humans for reference, given Rex’s status on the basketball team, he’s a couple years older than the twins, which would put him in the earliest batch of hybrids at about 16; if he was going to grow facial hair or facial-hair-like formations, he’d have them by now.
In the case of body hair, animals with fur -require- the fur as insulation for the climates they have evolved to adapt to, and humans, who do not have fur, wear clothing in compensation. Given that the furred hybrids we’ve seen so far wear a similar range of clothing to humans, we can safely assume that their insulation compared to their body size is similar to humans -despite- the added fur, which implies a lower core body heat. Shaving their body fur would pose a physical danger.
(Disclaimer: I don’t know anyone with poor enough judgement to wear heavy clothes in +30°C heat on grounds of appearance)
And in terms of female-specific cases, the vast majority of women who shave their body hair are either trying to make themselves more visually appealing (appearance purposes), more comfortable in their body (psychological purposes), or are trying to satisfy their partner for reasons that are most certainly not going to come up in a comic that used the phrase “What the fox”. For appearance purposes, a furred animal that has been shaved is not the most appealing thing to look at, so going by hybrid physiology we’ve seen so far, a furred hybrid that has been shaved would be similar. For psychological purposes, how comfortable they are in their body will be entirely based on how the people around them treat hybrids, and their specific amount of body fur would have no meaningful impact.
As time goes on, I expect social norms to adapt to hybrids wearing less clothing – for varying definitions of “less” depending on species and how close their physiology is to normal human, as well as local climate.
After all, a dog of Benji’s apparent hybrid species is a lot smaller than Benji is, and in general – given the same climate – larger animals have less fur for a very good reason (the square-cube law: if you double an animal’s size in all directions it has 4 times the surface area but 8 times the heat production that it needs to shed). So you’re going to take a hybrid like Benji, and wrap him in fabric, in a climate where the dog is comfortable without clothes? Doesn’t make a lot of sense.
However, this change won’t happen overnight, and certainly hasn’t happened yet. Hybrids are one in a thousand among the youngest quarter (or so) of the population – one in FOUR thousand overall, and not among the trend-setters or gate-keepers because they are all too young.
Re:Don Edwards – we’ll have to see how much detail we get from the doctors in this chapter before we make any serious assumptions about how hybrid clothing norms are going to develop. After all, the existence of hybrids with cold-blooded animals like snakes raises a sizeable number of questions about hybrid physiology. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vast majority of hybrids are some strange middle ground between warm-blooded and cold-blooded that has no analogue in modern animals, like is theorized about ancient dinosaurs.
Ooh, I wonder if dinosaur hybrids are a thing. Would they be classified as mythicals like dragons, or would there be a third categorization for hybrids of animals that have gone extinct in the modern day?
Wow, I can’t believe so many people replied to this, I thought I’d just be ignored. Anyway, I know that the explanation to all this is that their just fictional animal people and the author didn’t put to much thought into it, but I’m just the kinda guy who has to ask these questions y’know? Like culture around facial and body hair when it comes to the animal people, and this is especially important here because they were all raised by baseline humans ergo it would make sense if they shaved like humans.
Re:Alphagoul – with modern sensibilities towards such things as homosexuality, gender identity, and belief systems, would it seriously surprise you if hybrids DIDN’T shave like humans because they understand the difference between them, any more than a gay girl doesn’t flirt with boys like a straight girl does because she understands the difference? At most, I would anticipate that hybrids are simply raised to keep their fur well-groomed in the same way that a long-haired girl is raised to treat her hair.
Re:Suomynoma—That “because their different” explanation actually sounds more insensitive, not acceptive.
Re:Alphagoul – Interesting. Where I come from, the “because they’re different” explanation is about as acceptive as you can get; respecting the differences between you and another and not holding something they can’t control against them. It’s really no different than respecting the men’s/women’s signs on the washrooms.
Re: suomynona- I do agree with you, but I would like to point out a mistake in your supporting argument that could have easily lost you the whole argument among those I’m used to debating/arguing with. The mistake lies in the unspoken supporting arguments for having separate public restrooms for men and women instead of a single one for both. The main argument is not the fact that they are different but the result and effect of those differences and therefore could be argued to not apply to this example. The second example is “That’s just how things are/have always been”, which does apply but also was used and is used to argue for many things that are often seen as bad such as sexism and slavery. Again, not pointing out mistakes to hurt you, but to help you by making sure you don’t make the same mistake again.
I can think of one instance where you might see a shaved hybrid but it’s something I doubt Robin would go for: that would be some poor hybrid to happened to be afflicted with a severe case of mange. As the condition is caused by a parasitic mite and yes some species of them do infest humans it wouldn’t be inconceivable for this to happen to a hybrid I just really doubt we would see this because Robin does like to keep the comic family friendly.
I was going to philosophise a bit here, but then I kept scrolling, and kept scrolling, and kept scr-oh! The end. Yeah I don’t think I’ll add any more to this, probably would have to stretch to make a new point.
Hybrids generally are not expected to shave. They have fur, after all. They just need to groom :p
Then how does Kai has short hair, while Kaya has long hair?
And I’m pretty sure there was some background canine girl with head hair much longer than Benji’s and Rex’es, but with similar short fur.
Hair and fur grow differently. Fur grows to a certain length and (more-or-less) -stops-. Hair just keeps growing longer until you cut it. (-I- believe the “hair” on humans’ arms is actually fur! :-))
On top of Kai and Kaya’s head is hair, so it grows and must be cut to desired length. I believe I recall Robin saying Kai also -occasionally- has to trim the hair down his back and tail, just maybe not as often.
Yes, but the starting question is about beard, which grows constantly like head hair.
It’s so much of a mystery that it can’t be shown on screen.
the off-screen space is a very important space for storytelling xD
Doesn’t look like a mystery to me….as long as “both” is a valid answer.
I think pretty much everything can be a valid answer xD
In the last panel when Kaya said “let me heal you!” sounds like what a pet/companion will say in a game when its trying to heal you.
Holy frick, now I’m imagining Kai as Silica from Sword Art Online and Kaya as Pina.
…How much is the GamerDragons suggestion tier on patreon?
Only, in this case, it’s Kaya who’s gonna be healing the companion xD
Some people need to be cunning and creative at that. For some it just comes naturally.
yeah, I guess that’s true :p
Kai: “Help! She’s trying to heal me to death!”
“Awwww, you almost HEALed me to death that time!” ~ Teh Shpee, TF2
you become so healthy, you explode and drop health packages xD
What more can I say about this amazing comic? I feel like a broken record. Whenever I think it can’t get any better, Robin makes it better. Attention to detail. Distinct and in depth character personalities. Good plot and backstory. Actual character development over time. There’s just no end to it. Robin is truly legendary. A master artist who blows me away on a weekly basis with every new page. Every. Single. Time. I don’t know how you do it Robin, but you do. Keep it up my friend. Before I go though, let me just say: I love how apologetic Kaya is in this one. Kai deserved it and he knows it, after all, it was only a quick pinch. The pain is already gone. I almost feel bad for Kaya by how guilty she feels. I know what that’s like. The amount that I can relate to this comic overall is amazing, and only shows how true to life it is. As always Robin, stay awesome!
Thank you, Alpha 😀
I haven’t replied to your previous comment yet, but you can be sure I read it ^^
Kaya will be Kaya. Even in apology and guilt, she will go overboard xD She will be alright, as will Kai. You will see ^^
Now Im a day late. Kai and Kaya are reminding me more and more of two of my d&d characters, especially her saying “Let me heal you!”. At least Kaya doesn’t insist on always wearing matching cloths.
Except that Kaya’s C&D character is an offensive mage, not a healer… for now, anyways. I wonder if Benji’s using a rulebook that allows multiclassing. Robin, will we get to see another C&D session, or was that a one-time thing?
The most I think we can hope for is a snippet of a session as a scene transition. Fading back to the table to set up everyone being in one place. Beyond that it’d probably take a spin off comic or possibly the vote incentive once Robin decides to end Jessie’s adventure.
I personally think it would make a good voting incentive, but no matter how much some(myself included) May enjoy it, it probably couldn’t be as effective as Jesse’s adventure just because less people would fully understand it. Despite knowing this I still think it should be done in some way at some point.
Kaya ‘could’ start wearing matching clothes :p
About the C&D chapters, there will be some chapters in the main comic in the future, but if it’s really about full on C&D campaigns, that’s something for side comics :p
and I DO enjoy the idea, so who knows :p
WOO!
And if such a side comic does come about, will you be accepting suggestions for possible C&D campaigns? I have Catacomb Master advice for Benji and a questionable (though family-friendly) idea for a session.
If you did ‘end’ Jessie’s adventure, you realise you’d have to transfer the main group to a certain school? After all, Benji might know them anyhow…
I just realized this. I know you probably won’t see this since you’ve already gone through the comments, but if I can get a faster answer I’ll go for it, and I can just ask again next week. Is this set as a future of our world or an alternate version of it? I know it may seem unimportant to most people but I have to know
It’s an alternate of our world. You can take it as our own modern day world, but with hybrids 🙂
Oh my god Robin! This is the best comic i’ve read so far! You might even be competing with HousePets! or TwoKinds! I hate that I can read entire decades of comics in a day, much less something that’s only went on for at least 3-4 years. :c
Now I have to wait.
Welcome to the family, Starpaws. Love your id! That’s what I used to call it when my ol’ cat would lay on her back while stretching her “arms” out and spreading her toes in the air. “Kitty making star-paws!” 🙂 (It’s like when they are “making biscuits” except laying on her back with her feet in the air.) 🙂
