Hi,
Just discovered your comic and really love it, the story is really terrific and I love Kaya & kai. Question: how could humans get a hybrid child if both parents are human? Would one or both parents have DNA from a previous furry or animal hybrid from their ancestors? I know you said science hasn’t found an answer yet in the beginning of your comic, but I just was wondering, the only way I know to get a child like Kaya & Kai would be through a mutation or previous genetic DNA form an ancient ancestor. Anyway, here’s another really terrific comic to add to my reading collection. Thanks for your work.
I wonder what other issues a hybrid has to deal with? And I wonder what our twin dragons have to deal with compared to humans?
… would they have scales or just skin? I assume they are technically mammals, and it is implied that they are warm blooded, which at least makes them different from overgrown lizards. I also wonder what exactly classifies them as dragons rather than lizards? Apart from the whole technically mammals thing….
Oh look, dog in funny wig is last panel.
More issues will come in the future, but I’m also gonna show normal teenager issues just to show they’re actually human beings as well. They actually have scales of some sort. Small scales woven into the skin, makes their skin very hard but still flexible like normal skin. Kaya hates it since she can’t get her ears pierced for earrings :p
THey are dragons because they can breath fire. A very rare hybrid form, even among the hybrids. Up to now, these two are the only known dragon hybrids.
Interesting, I wasn’t certain if they could actually breath fire, the only in comic reference I could find was a New Years one, which I was not certain was canonical.
Seems a pity with those awesome ears that she can’t pierce them. I bet it could be done, but would probably require more heavy duty equipment and higher risks. Diamond tipped drill or a cutting laser spring to mind.
While I am certain that, capitalism being what it is, there would be a large range of personal care products marketed to hybrids, dragons being rare, there is probably nothing much specifically marketed to them.
I can easily imaging that there are whole salons dedicated to providing Haircare to the furry hybrids.
Yeah, savy business people saw some oppurtunities and went with it of course. Also, I don’t think Kaya’s parents would approve pierced ears by diamand drill.
I can see why. At least some portion of her ears are flesh, and contain regular tissues and nerve endings that are far more vulnerable than her scales. Once that drill punches through the first scale layer she’s in for a world of hurt. Especially because the drill will scouring the fleshy lair while it digs through to the layer of scales on the back of the ear.
And then there’s the lubricants you would need to keep the heat down to a non-painful level. Few of those play nice with open wounds.
I mention the heat because this setting does not seem to have a lot (or any) magic. Meaning they cannot be immune to heat, merely resistant. Otherwise you could just do it without lube using an tungsten-carbide tipped elemental tungsten drillbit and a well heat-shielded drill press (assuming the scales are tough enough to require such measures).
So right now Benji probably still assumes they’re “regular” lizard hybrids? Looking forward to him finding out that they can breathe actual fire, then. X3
Got to show them all!! Dragon Twins! -Pokemon style ^_^
Ps. I’ve had a LOT of fun reading this series, as well as the gaming spinoff. Thanks for all of the work you have put into this, and I anticipate a lot more enjoyment for a while to come.
Hey, just found this comic today. Very cute and awesome. Reminds me a bit when I was of that age not to long ago, moved around a lot and so far I can relate.
I didn’t know about the fact when I was writing the comic, but apparently that is true. Poodles don’t shed since their hair gets tangled up instead of falling, so they need a lot of grooming.
But hey, I’m no expert either, and I imagine Benji and the twins aren’t either :p
Man, i can only imagine the struggles parents would have gone through during the initial occurrences, i mean no baseline exists for this, you cant even compare a child being born without arms or legs to this, nothing could prep you for it.
Though on the flip side, any one who would still love their child anyway with absolutely no idea this might happen would probably win parent of the century awards.
Given that these guys are supposedly just born from human parents at random, it is strange enough that they come in multiple varieties… but the odds of these human derivatives somehow closely corresponding to actual breeds of dog (selectively bred for over hundreds of generations) is utterly beyond comprehension. To say genetics absolutely does not and cannot work like that would be an understatement of epic proportions.
… Ergo I’m assuming this world has magic in it. Furry magic. Or very complex nanites.
Hahaha, poodle hybrid. Poor guy. And he is lucky he is not a Komondor, a hungarian shepherd. Go look it up, having such fur would be horrible for a hybrid.

That last panel. Fabulous
*hair in the wind effect*
OLD SPICE VS HEAD AND SHOLDERS
I love that these kids are equals already.
Sometimes you just instantly make friends :p
Does that actually happen in real life?
Yeah. That is exactly how young children make friends.
See child of similar age -> make eye contact -> exchange names -> friendship

My best guess would be some sort of mutant gene, x-men style.
Other than that, the exact reason is handwaved to get to the story.
Science has no idea yet, and they’re looking into it. A mutation is the most likely cause, but they aren’t sure what’s causing it in the first place.

I take it they will also have plain old human friends?
Yeah, but the main group of the comic will all be hybrids for now. There will be humans later on, in a rather interesting way I believe.
Good, good. Just so it doesn’t seem Human teens are all bad.
So right now Benji probably still assumes they’re “regular” lizard hybrids? Looking forward to him finding out that they can breathe actual fire, then. X3
Oh yeah, that’s gonna be a surprise :p
What about clip on earrings? No drilling required and no pain.
Yeah, she could wear those, but it’s just not the same.
If dragon hybrids are acceptable as hybrids then does that mean actual dragons exist?
What other creatures/hybrids exist?
Most animals and some more special creatures have seen a hybrid form, but the scope of the comic is not to show them all. At least not yet :p

Yup, more to come.
man i wish i can read this on my phone but nope glitchy as hell english isnt my strong suit
The format of my comic is not so Phone friendly I believe. Maybe if you hold the Phone in landscape mode.

I thought poodles had hair that just keeps growing until it’s cut instead of fur that sheds? At least I think they do, I’m no expert.

Yeah, it was pretty confusing at the start :p
Could have been worse. He could have been a chihuahua.
Now that would’ve been a sight :p

It’d be fitting if he was reggae inspired.
Well there’s a fun/disturbing mental image for ya, Benji!
Is this Image of Benji your original inspiration for Jin?
