Jin’s a lot stronger than he looks!
With all of the throws, I’m thinking judo.
Everyone involved is wearing a gi as if for judo and it feels like this would be a group that doesn’t take a lot of influence from other fighting styles, so I think you’re probably right. But there are quite a few other martial arts styles that can focus a lot on throws, so just the fact that they’re so far only doing throws isn’t necessarily enough to guess the style.
For that matter, since it’s a training session, today could be focusing exclusively on throws, which opens up the list of possible martial arts to any that include these sorts of throws, not just those that would gravitate to these sorts of throws.
Agreed, definitely feels like judo or some other form of aikido.
Given how minimalistic his movements are and how little force he seems to be using, I’m thinking aikido as well.
It’s not exactly judo, it’s more like aikido. Jin’s family has their own branch of martial arts that was passed down in the family ^^
The Anything-Goes School of Martial Arts!
My Dear Author Robin
Family form of Aikido/ Aikijutsu!
Congrats, you have captured the flow and shown the use of Ki perfectly!
I now see Robin has previously mentioned “family style Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu“
Oh, so you want to have a go?
Dealing down the master of throw?
Turning your power against you?
You want to see what you can do?
You can’t see his mystery guest.
You’re not putting him to the test.
As he threatens to knock you flat
you just might wish there was a mat.
There’s just one more here for the fight,
a guy who was being polite;
waiting his turn to take Jin on;
knowing his chance would be all gone…
Jin seems uninvolved, I guess he’s been doing this sort of thing a bit too often. Not that he isn’t putting any energy into the match, he just seems to be putting the minimal amount of attention and effort he needs for the exercise.
Or he may be concentrating and focusing on other senses than sight – maybe his guardian (can someone remind me their name?) is ‘seeing’ for him – and he’s concentrated on their teamwork and getting the moves right.
Her name is Katsumi (although Jin calls her Ka-chan for short).
Jin does seem a little uninvolved, but he sure knows what he’s doing :p
In many martial arts, minimal movement for maximum effect is something they strive for, and that’s what Jin tries to do ^^
Jin vs Sasuke
Death Battle
Who’d win?
Death Battle avoids using characters for whom they don’t have solid figures as far as what they can do, how it works, and around where their upper limit is. That’s why we haven’t seen Saitama get involved yet. Until we get the details on Katsumi, Jin’s not gonna get involved. (And that’s assuming he’s even in the right ballpark to fight who I assume is a Naruto character.)
Is this Saitama the one from “One Punch Man”? If so, he doesn’t do martial arts. Don’t remember a death match either. Some other guy I guess.
Death Battle is a web series by Rooster Teeth that (usually) revolves around taking two people from different franchises and analyzing their weapons, armour, and skills to find out who would win… well, a death battle. One Punch Man characters have occasionally appeared, but the creators have stated that Saitama himself is (probably) not going to get involved until they have solid figures on anything resembling his upper limits.
I don’t know why people want to extrapolate from training sessions to fights to the death. I especially find it interesting that you’re pitting someone with multiple kills and old enough to have a daughter to their name against a child.
Sure, I get that Jin’s fighting adults here. But, training session. Also, as far as we’ve seen, this is a primarily defensive form, which is generally not as useful in a death battle. That said, in real practical terms, outside of some battle to the death mandated by an exterior force, there are no reasons why a fight would need to be to the death. Negotiations are always possible, and a desire to end the life of ones opponent is a weakness.
Can’t speak for why the guy wants to put Jin in Death Battle, but the reason the series focuses on fights to the death is because it’s a blanket condition. You’ve got swordsmen, mages, martial artists, superheroes, virtuous characters, villainous characters, joke characters, and everything in between. A fight to the death has a concrete and unambiguous winner; with some combatants, their power is either lethal force or nothing; and where villains are concerned, they’re always eager to put their enemies down for good. By applying the fight condition “to the death” across all matchups in the series, fight calculations are much simpler than having to determine who is willing and able to incapacitate their opponent and/or accept a non-lethal defeat.
Right.
So…
Never Dead Ned versus… anybody. Death match. Who wins?
It’s generally a match up between people in franchises where Death Is A Revolving Door, so no, it does *not* have an unambiguous winner. Unless, of course, somebody manages to actually get an unambiguous victory over Never Dead Ned, at which point we all lose. That kind of makes it not a victory.
Getting a simpler answer doesn’t really mean anything if it’s an answer to a question that would never happen. It’s also generally more interesting to know where we could get if people worked together, because a lot of times, that would be amazing. It’s sad that so few people actually want to try for that. Of course, a lot of the reason why so few people want to try for it is because most of everyone’s greedy as fuck, which is the main reason for us not having any way to deal with global climate change, soaring national debts, and so many other problems. Because of greed, we all lose.
Wow, you’re not even trying to be amicable, are you?
-The official rules for Death Battle state that the fight is over once one party is dead or (in the case of truly immortal or reconstructible characters) otherwise unable to continue the current fight. In the cases of franchises where death is not permanent, one party being dead still renders them unable to continue the current fight, and in cases of characters that physically cannot die, there are ways to incapacitate them or otherwise prevent them from retaliating, which is an unambiguous end to the CURRENT fight.
-There are tons of fan works out there where characters from different franchises try to achieve a goal together. But “who would win in a fight” is something that can be done in one episode, and is visually appealing; it’s a show of what the characters can do, on a battlefield with no holds barred. Death Battle simply provides a scientific basis for the end result, as opposed to just “what makes a good story”. In contrast, “where we could get by working together” is a matter of what needs to be done at the time; do we need to defeat an evil dictator, do we need to find a rare jewel, do we just need to get a high score in a competition of some kind? There’s no upper limit because there’s no universal condition.
-Crossovers DO exist, and frequently, characters from opposite ends of those crossovers DO fight each other. Saying it “would never happen” is unambiguously false, especially when accounting for the most frequent crossover matches of Death Battle, being as Marvel and DC have had crossovers in the past.
-There is absolutely no reason to bring up political complaints or insult humanity in the comments section of a webcomic like this. We’re seeing a mystical character with a strange support figure performing an asskicking, and NetriliZer compared him to another (I presume) mystical character with a strange support figure who can perform an asskicking. That’s no reason to get rude or crass. If you want to be a pessimist, take it elsewhere.
Most matchups in (main series) Death Battle are based on thematic similarities. I assume this Sasuke guy has a semi-invisible familiar of his own.
And you need to remember that all forms of martial arts came about from a desire to be able to defend oneself. There ARE jerks and punks and frickers who will try and do unpleasant things to you and kill you if you don’t cooperate. If you CAN incapacitate them non-lethally, good on you, but they’re not gonna return the honor.
Oh my Jesus guys it was a joke. Y’know Katsumi is like a Sasanoo. Ha ha funny?
So it WAS based on a similarity with Katsumi. It’s so much nicer to know that for certain instead of making assumptions. As far as the “taking it personally” angle, I didn’t take issue with your comparison; I just reacted to your mention of Death Battle. And Some Ed was clearly just looking to pick a fight, so we’re better off ignoring him.
Never attribute to malice what might be the fault of ignorance. I had no idea who Sasuke was or why you were comparing him to Jin until you made this elaboration; a Google search for “Sasuke” brought up a pale kid from a franchise I’ve never partaken in. Mr* Provocation up there looks like he was similarly unfamiliar, given all he’s accounting for about this guy is his age and body count.
*gender assumed based on name; apologies if I’m mistaken.
Eh, Katsumi is more like a stand than a Susano’o. Ka-chan is undetectable to anyone but Jin (so far) like how a Stand is normally invisible to anyone who isn’t a Stand user while a Susanoo is visible to everyone and is a giant demonic Tengu composed of transparent energy compressed into a solid form. Plus, don’t you need to witness the demise of someone close to you (or was close to you at one point) with the Sharingan? A Stand can be awakened at any point in a potential Stand User’s lifetime, even at birth.
I don’t feel like putting Sasuke against Jin would be fair on Jin xD
Oh, & Robin I used the stats you gave me (& some inferring & concluded that their score on the SHDb would be ~7.8 (which is tragicly low seeing on how the top numerical score is around 50 Trillion) But i were to use my hypothesis then it’d be around 11.9 (Which is stil low but hey it’s higher)
I don’t really know what SHDb is, but keep in mind that I’m writing a slice of life story, not a superhero story xD
Cute badasses are the BEST badasses. And with clearer perspective on what he’s doing and how it works, it’s clear that the cute one is the badass here. Katsumi even looks like she’s specifically moving out of the way so she doesn’t interfere with Jin’s technique.
Never underestimate the cute ones xD
This time I can clearly see that Katsumi has no direct physical contact with the red-belted guy. It’s also clear that Jin has much greater inertia than his size would normally allow. Assuming that Katsumi is the source of Jin’s abilities, I have to conclude that force applied to Jin must be transferred to Katsumi in some way that I can only call magic.
Yyyyyeah, something is clearly up when Jin just one handed tossing down red belt like that! That definitely wasn’t using his own momentum against him!
In my experience, the primary difference between magically and telekinetically affecting something from a distance is from whence it comes, how it is limited, and how it can be impeded. But every setting that involves either of them treats them differently, so whether that’s a magical force-displacement or a telekinetic partial-immobilization really amounts to ‘What does Robin want to call it’.
And even then, we don’t have very specific figures on Jin himself. If he happens to be heavier than his frame indicates, then that would affect how much inertia he possesses. Inertia is a property of matter determined by a lot more than just how big you are. If Komainu have particularly dense bones, or a very low center of gravity, then he wouldn’t need to put a particular amount of effort into his throws; the last chapter’s throw looked mostly to be because his opponent was coming from behind him (and because it was page 300 and Robin wanted to do a giant splash panel).
I think there was several settings where the CHARACTERS argued about if something they JUST DID was magic or telekinetic. So, not only it’s up to Robin what he wants to call it, but the option for different character having different opinion how it should be called – and NEITHER BEING REALLY WRONG – is open.
Inertia is determined by mass (at least for those of us who aren’t linked to an invisible komainu). I don’t know Jin’s mass, but there are tight limits to how much heavy metal he can contain and remain alive. A heart of gold, for example, would make him more massive, but it would also make him dead from lack of blood circulation. More bone tissue, and thus more calcium, would make him slightly denser, yes, but not enough to effortlessly toss a man around like a rag doll. Therefore I think Katsumi must somehow counteract forces applied to Jin.
And if Jin is significantly denser than a normal human, then I hope Katsumi can lift him out of water, because he would be unable to swim.
Well it’s not just simply an issue of inertia or Jin being unusually dense. There almost has to be something going on like the Twins strength or Katsumi somehow aiding him because not only did Jin just stop the guy mid lunge, he yanked red belt down. Jin, a child of about 10 to 12, pulling down a grown adult with one arm. And arm only! He’s not bending over, not using any other part of his body to assist the pull, it’s all arm. To emphasize that: how many adult people on the short side, just under 5 feet to maybe a couple inches over, would be able to do that to someone who is say 6 foot or more, weighing over 200 lbs? You would practically expect said short person to be absolutely ripped (heavily muscled) to pull that off. We see no indication of that with Jin, his build is very much that of a slender young boy.
Hmmm, looking again and I spotted something else. Look at where Jin grabbed red belt in panel two. Now look at red getting flipped down in panel 3. How did their arms rotate around each other like that or red’s arm NOT smack into Jin? Artist error?
Hmmm, can’t respond to the one below so do it here. A better explanation is that I simply misinterpreted the motions here in panels 2 & 3. I thought Jin had stopped the guy and then thrown him forward and down. This caused me some confusion as to how red belt’s arm rotated around Jin without hitting him. If Jin didn’t stop him from moving forward however, then that confusion goes away and it makes more sense. Red is being flipped forward, not back.
Yeah, only Jin has physical contact with the opponents ^^
Uke == attacker
Nage == defender
Red Belt is defeated with a variation of Iriminage
Irimi means “body moving or entering in” and nage means “throw.”
Uke approaches to attack
Nage “slips under” Nage’s extended arms in an “entering move.
In a continuous walking movement ( entering) Nage “extends his Ki” into a gentle grab/palm thrust at Uke’s chest and continues forward
Uke’s feet go out from under him and Nage “gently” puts Uke on the mat.
variation on the street; “Nage bounces Uke on ground like basketball”
Jin is adorably terrifying.
best kind of terrifying xD
That’s totally a “Watch how easily I steal this meme” post on the bottom-left. 😛
pose* Stupid typos 🙁
Yeah, I can see it xD
Fire isn’t as impressive as doing this.
You know, I think Jin doesn’t have to worry about walking around strangers or kidnappers. Kidnappers have to worry about him.
If kidnappers are worrying about him, they didn’t do the research. They should be worried about Katsumi. Jin will leave them alive.
Oh, Jin doesn’t need to worry, alright xD
Panels 2 & 4: Jin is in “The Zone!” ….and I’m one of those who think Katsumi has something to do with it. Their expressions and poses are too much alike. 🙂
AND: I like the alt.txt. 😉
Best alt text ^^
Jin is definitely in the zone. The whooping zone xD
Hi 🙂
Hi, Nigh! Welcome to the group! (…and remember to wipe your shoes. 😉 )
Hey 😀
Sorry for continually bringing karate into this, since the author has said it’s a variation of aikido, but I was really excited by panels 6 and 7. When I saw those panels it looked like a modified form of a soto block (the most basic block we used) and my brain started buzzing about how I would continue the fight from that point.
Very excited to see how it pans out next week.
A lot of martial arts have similarities, so that’s fine ^^
Also, it’s a martial art that’s been passed down in Jin’s family, so there’s bound to be some influences from different arts in there. I still need to name the style, but it’s not strictly aikido.
He since you said you read every comment this is just an idea for gamer dragons but subnautica seems like it would be cool
also please forgive my bad grammar/punctuation I never paid attention in any english class until i got to high school
Subnautica would really be cool 😀 I have a list of ideas for Gamer Dragons, and I will add it ^^
Oh cool!
Ya know, Jin is like an army himself: cute, so there is a chance that the enemy will refuse to attack him but otherwise, he can defeat a whole battalion alone 😀
Weaponized cuteness, or cuteness weaponized? xD
I wonder. Do they know Jin has a lion-dog working with him?
Only if they believe in the words of Jin.
No one can see Ka-chan, that is why research in the hospital is still ongoing with Jin.
Since he is a mythical hybrid, they can´t just take out a new possibility.
A normal child would be considered with “imaginary friend”
I definitely look forward if the dragon twins might get a chance to see Ka-Chan. Maybe with aging, more skills of a dragon may awake in those two.
After all.. Also mythical hybrids with no data to compare to something.
Which kinda raises the question of whether the mythical creature half of mythical Hybrids are complete myths or are/were living creatures with supernatural powers/seemingly supernatural abilities in their world…
Aside from his family and the doctors, he doesn’t really talk about it to people.
Ooh! I wonder if Kai and/or Kaya will start taking lessons with Jin. It’d give him someone about his strength level, or something. =3
Also, I see that the person Jin is up against now is a black belt. Well then! =D;
While they think it’s cool, Kai and Kaya have other interests ^^
I wonder whether Ka-chan is literally yanking on people or just boosting Jin’s strength or reflexes. From the visuals either could be true.
Whew. Catch up to the current page. Loving the comic!~
And I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Jin is a interesting character, and I want to see what he will say about the plan.
I’m glad you like the comic 😀
and I’m glad you like Jin ^^
Hmmm, hard to tell :p
It’s all body mechanics, form, and practice. That and Jin has a really low center of gravity compared to his opponents.
