Monkey business
Kai finds himself on a beach with some oddly familiar-looking monkeys :p
Here a closer look at the last panel, since it’s rather small.

Hypothesis: that’s NOT Kaya.
Aaand after rereading this while NOT half-awake, I now realize who the monkey faces are and I realize that the illusion of Kaya was never intended. Now I feel like an idiot.
Your hypothesis was correct!
Yeah, but I was trying to be clever and assume that who seemed to be Kaya was not Kaya, when in fact it does not seem to be Kaya, so I just look like #CaptainObvious.
Indeed, it’s not :p
Yeah, I figured that part out already -.-‘ #SelfDeprecation
I just couldn’t leave you hanging :p
Okay from the bigger picture I can see that is Cleo being tormented by the three girls who used her money for everything. Does this mean Kai likes her or is it just some hero complex of wanting to save someone? I’m leaning towards the latter just because that would seem to meld well with what we know about his personality.
I also had to resist just doing a Phil Sebin from “Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law”
HA HA! Symbolism.
It’s just a funny dream, so I guess it’s just Kai wanting to be the hero :p
Kai faces a Monkey Puzzle
on the beach of make believe;
how he’ll ever escape
I’m really not sure I can conceive.
A precious little monkey Cleo
faces a familiar fate
and our hero Kai comes to fight
for the dream girl he’s going to date?
The sub leads the conscious on
and tells him of what he fears.
Fighting is easy; romance hard;
but, in dreams, the fickle heart cheers.

Nice one 😀
They’d have trouble making that now. Scantly clad singers (especially Cheryl), Dancing pectorals, a fire eater live on stage with them…
I honestly was thinking “Dream Police”
I already forgot: how did she get the burn(?)? Is it curable?
Cause of burn: Kaya
Curability: It will grow in after a while.
No worries, she’s not scarred for life xD
It looks like Cleo’s old “friends” are monkeying around with her.
And referencing back to the doctor checkup, we can see that our dragons’ hair really does go from head to tail.
I wonder if that feels weird, though our dragons are probably used to it.
Yeah, they’re used to it. It’s pretty normal for them ^^
Jeese’s Adventure, panel 3: There should be a comma at the end of “house” and “back yard” should be one word.
interesting that you mention the back yard thing. I had one of my proof readers tell me this rule:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/506959884546473994/734477759174410280/unknown.png
I didn’t know it, but there seems to be a difference. What do you think?
Not a rule I remember hearing before, but on thinking about it, it makes perfect sense.
Wiktionary has an entry for “back yard” that says only “Alternative spelling of backyard”. The article about “backyard” is much longer, and contains this note:
Note that backyard is sometimes written as a single word, but front yard is always written as two words.
Looking up “back yard” on merriam-webster.com I get redirected to “backyard”.
Well interesting! Kai gonna play the hero for dream Cleo against her tormentors! Course this being a dream sequence something is probably going to go wonky in the next strip or two.
Kai to the rescue xD
Well, ya know what they say! KILL THEM
Little extreme there for a family friendly comic, odds are Kai’s just going to chase them off.
Maybe let them see him drop -just 2- bananas behind a bush? 😉
Chasing them away will do I think xD
When I read this over on Tapas, I thought that was Kaya, and that Kai had been more shaken up than he let on seeing Kaya get bullied. Only when I looked at this page did I realize it was actually Cleo.
Mr. Stargate above does post the relevant question. I agree with the reasoning too, Kai is likely just the heroic type. Though this possibly confirms them as friends and not just friendly acquaintances who both have a connection to Kaya.
I…KIND of ship Kaia and Cleo, but A) I don’t know if they have the chemistry for that, and B) I don’t want to force my ideas for relationships onto other people’s works. If it does happen, I’m happy, if not, I can live with that, after all I’m here for the story, the characters, and the artwork, not the non-existent pairings.
On the note of Cleo’s former Clique, what makes this even sadder is Kai doesn’t yet know that Liz has the potential to be better than that.
I DO think Liz and Cleo could reconcile, but Cleo might see that as a betrayal of Kaya unless Liz works with Kaya first, to apologize for antagonizing her, and for trying to control who Cleo is and is not friends with. I think working things out with Kaya first will be a VERY important first step to reconciling with Cleo.
Good insights on Liz and Cleo there.
And yeah, I realized the art is a little tiny here, so I posted a bigger version of the panel just for that ^^
How does Kai know about the bald spot? How does that even work?
Kai mentions it in the last panel of this page: https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/safety-returns/
I see Gluten has already answered for me ^^
You know. When I first say this page, I though Kay was in Destiny Island from Kingdom Heart. Hell. Kay could be wiping around a keyblade for all I know.
Maybe that’s something for Gamer Dragons xD
isnt that some kind of role changed start in the game ARK Survival?
ark – mamal spawning on the beach, getting eaten by repitles
here: reptile spawning on the beach, getting harassed by mamals
in both case: “Get of our lawn! I mean, Island!”
I see the battleground. Is Kai having this dream because of some deeper feelings, or just his normal heroic personality? He definitely does have one, but we have also had one or two slight hints that Cleo may be interested in him. It seems too early to call at this point, but regardless, I’m sure we’re about to see Kai’s knee-jerk response to a somewhat bizarre situation. I’m sure our young dragon won’t let us down. No matter what happens next, this is lining up to be just as unexpected and exciting a chapter as any, and I can’t wait to read more of it. I’ll be looking forward to next week’s page Robin. You certainly know how to write a hook. Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
Hooks are important x3
Thanks Alpha 😀
Kai certainly has a tendency to try and be the hero. It’s one of his better qualities, but it also can get him in trouble :p
I figured the “wonderous journey” referred to in the chapter title would be in the form of a fevered dream, but I didn’t want to say so for fear of guessing wrong. Also, I wasn’t sure what might cause or contribute to said dream (cold medicine, etc.)
You should just guess, that’s the fun part 😀
Dreaming about Cleo now are we? I ship it ^^
And footwear on the beach? I’m looking at some serious heresy *loads his bolter*
Stay your hand brother! The codex does not support this action.
Now THAT is some serious heresy *loads his twin-linked multi melta*
TBH, I have not read through your codex, it is boring and keeps shitting on glorious technological advancement…. I’m actually a Tau infiltrator *laughs in advanced mechs*
Whatever the end result, I demand a heroic blushy dragon; I needs it.
…Maybe I watch too much anime.
There is no such thing as to much anime.
Was between barefooted and this. Seeing as there’s more to come in the chapter, footwear was the better choice :p
The one on the ground is obviously Cleo in non monkey form, you don’t often see monkey or apes in works with animal people.
They tend to drift too close to the uncanny valley, being primates and all
Well, I’m happy to provide some monkeys :p
I’ll be honest, never been too fond of the “dream sequence” plot, I feel it usually distracts from the main plot and other characters. Though this style at least makes it obvious and not the “it was all a dream” scenario, which I feel makes fun of the readers.
That said, I can understand that a writer/artist needs to have their own fun as well, and likes to be able to enjoy and explore themes/activities with the characters in a non cannon situation.
So we’ll just see where this goes.
This looks like that escapists survival game
Apparently our simian antagonists are used to being out Where The Wild Things Are….
I think they -are- the Wild Things. Just.. Not the good-fun kinda wild things.
Heh. That was the point. Their poses remind me of that book’s cover. ^^
🙂 🙂 🙂 Except for the ‘being mean’ part, Monkey-Liz reminded me of Curious George with the man’s yellow(?) hat.
JESSE’S ADVENTURE:
Troye: “Aye, Aye, Captain!”
Miss Penning: “Troye, I was never a capt-.”
Troye: “You’ve been promoted!”
🙂
…and I like the wendigo’s white claws. 😉
I feel like we are about to get an abridged recap of the story so far in fantasy format, and it starting with the 3 bullies tormenting cleo.
This time -Kai- gets to be the one to do something about it. 🙂 And, being that it’s Kai’s dream, it will have a much happier ending than real life. 😉
heheheh
It seems puberty may be kicking in…:)
When you feel nostalgią for a place where you have never been 🤔😅
Anyway, I must praise the details again (the scratches when Kai grabs the stick) 😀
LOL Been there, done that…at least twice. 🙂 One was a Kentucky plantation, the other was a jail cell in an old Spanish fort in Florida.
Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum! 🙂
Uh-oh. A young teenage boy has a dream about a (cute) girl. Normally, there’s only one way this would end. Thankfully, this isn’t *that* kind of comic. Here, it’s much more likely that Kai will play the no-holds-barred superhero. I just wonder which method he’ll use to defeat the villainous (flying?) monkeys. Will he burn them? Beat them? Use dream logic on them? Just chase them away?
Or will the dream actually go in the “wet” direction? If so, it could lead to a few pages on “the talk,” which could be good, also.
End, yes. However, it’s quite common for dreams to not end … or rather, not reach the logical conclusion by being interrupted before that. And even if it would reach that, the comics may just imply it instead of showing.
I think that might be Cleo, and Monkeys are her ex-friends. Although, one of them might be coming back to try for genuine friendship
deeply symbolic fever dream incoming.
Kai has joined the server.
Cleo has joined the server.
Cleo is attacked by monkeys.
Kai Equips: Stick +1
Nice poetry speaking, dude
Nice touch for the fingerprints in the fifth panel.
