The floorplans of the library laid bare;
confirmed for all present to see.
Their place for solitude confirmed
A hidden room built just for three.
The study beckons the new friends in;
to avoid the hubbub beyond the walls;
To get to grips with mathematic ills.
To proudly walk the academic halls.
The library expands its size in secret
as Robin weaves in future stitches.
Showing the places’ layout changes
wonโt just be some artist glitches…

Such secrets may be hidden;
from the public’s prying eyes,
From wingless dragons’ gaze;
such secrecy now just dies.
But can our heroine resist;
the urge to shout out loud,
and alert the swarming masses;
the terribly waitlisted crowd?
And will our Russian friend;
Make it out scot-free,
Or in the doghouse tonight;
will they quickly be?
I might be late to this party, but I’m dang well gonna enjoy the party. Thanks for inspiring me to join this fun.
Ahh. All the charm of a secret door, secret room, and secret passageway while also being 100% logical. I like it.
Neat and a great way to keep such a room closed until needed
Looks like Kaya is going to be very happy in the next few pages.
I wonder what Robin has planned for the Lunar New Year; it’s February 10 this year, and we’ll be going into the Year of the Dragon.
Now if she can just manage to -not- drive her own study partners out of the room with that happiness… ๐ ๐
Well, Kai is mostly used to Kaya’s eccentricities, so I doubt she could drive her twin out without the intention to do so. Misha is the real issue; they haven’t acclimated to Kaya’s eccentricities yet.
Also, I took a closer look at the Kaya Toast recipe; it’s the name of the jam on the toast and is ethnically from Singapore. It would probably be amusing to see a hybrid of the ethnic heritage of Singapore meet the twins and ask her why she is named after a foodstuff. Kaya would probably get a kick out of being told she is named after another culture’s food.
Kaya is easily impressed with this reveal, I guess that’s because of how excitable she is. I wasn’t expecting the wall to open into an event room like that. The trio better get inside and close the door before someone else spots them, otherwise the event room’s existence will spread like wildfire to the other patrons. Oh, just thought of something, can the door be opened from the inside? Wouldn’t want Kai, Kaya, and Misha to lock themselves in… If this room didn’t have a basilisk in it before, it now has a pair of adorable Dragons instead.
Hopefully, there aren’t any kids camping inside the event room already. Misha would have to chase them out again. Something tells me Kai is going to play tutor for his beloved sister and their fuzzy new friend…
The room itself is not secret. Only the process of opening it is.
And the fact they’re sneaking in to study, that’s another secret. I’d imagine there would be other ways to access the room, but they would be either going into the Staff Only areas (no access for off-duty staff) or placed too close to areas regularly used by staff for them to sneak in and out.
The Room of Requirement!
I like panel 6; especially Misha’s proud pose. ๐
Hmm… Wonder what’s the Russian equivalent of “Open sesame!”
The question is, can the event-room wall be opened from inside? Because I really don’t see how they’re going to get away with this if they don’t have the option of closing it behind them.
I would think so if for no other reason than fire safety/emergency policies.
The lock going “click” indicates that the lock’s cylinder (rotating part) isn’t connected *directly* to the latch (like in a super simple drawer lock:
https://www.lowe-and-fletcher.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/13.5mm-Multi-Drawer-Lock-F621.jpg
) but *engages to and disengages from* it – which allows you to move the latch with *other* sub-mechanisms added to the assemply, like an interior door having a lock and a handle/lever *both* able to move the spring bolt:
https://cdn.homedit.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Parts-of-a-Door-Knob.jpg
The *real* question is, since this side of the wall doesn’t have a handle to pull on, how do you *close* it from the outside?
Panel 1: Add a comma to “correct”.
I think some of the “add a comma” suggestions, including this one, would make the dialogue a little strange to read.
EeeeeeYUP! ๐
Yep, called it, although in my mother’s library, instead of the whole wall moving in, it was hinged in three places and folded back out of the way on tracks. There was a man-door as well, so the librarians and the GED classes could go in without moving the whole thing.
Most of the time, this is done with a collapsible wall.
Personally, I *am* hoping that Roko Basilisk is back there. I think a QC crossover would be cool. ๐
And here I was thinking the guy who designed the building had a thing for the classics. This does make a lot of sense though.
I can’t believe I just found this webcomic. Binge-read it and now I’m here.
…I really hope that Kaya can keep the noise level down, and resist the urge to keen at such a pitch to hurt their new friend’s ears…again.
