Oh, Jin… There’s competition, and then there’s common origin. The two aren’t exclusively mutual.
Also, it took me a lot of effort to not squee hard enough to wake half my neighborhood. The Benji+Jin stack didn’t really grab my attention on the previous page, but focused on like this, it just looks adorable. Now if only Katsumi were visible so she could serve as the L-size…
Ha, World of Final Fantasy reference.
And they’re off! Looks like Benji and Jin are off to a good start, even getting a couple of bored teens to take a flyer. And yeah I bet the twins and Marco would like to know there’s an Italian Ice Cream truck! Either as a treat for themselves later or maybe a partnership down the line. Kaya: “so long as they have chocolate I’m good!”
putting those two trucks next to each other would be a good idea – creating a (very) little italy – after all, if you like italian food, odds are you´ll like an italian dessert too, and vice versa
Jin’s out on a flyer,
riding on Benji’s head;
working up a hunger
that now needs to be fed.
Gelateria
(a mobile one, at least)
will provide the setting
for a Dairy style feast.
What flavour will he choose?
Vanilla or Toffee?
Chocolate or raspberry
ripple? What will it be?
Sherbert maybe for Jin? I know a lot of people not of European descent have trouble with dairy.
And in case of confusion on the term: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/sherbet-vs-sherbert
It’d probably be Sorbet for dairy free as that’s Italian.
Older generation Japanese have difficulty eating or drinking the same amount of dairy products westerners normally consume due to a lack of cattle products until recent decades. Since milk and milky based products are a large part of the western diet and have been for millennia, we have a much easier time digesting it (except lactose intolerant people). That said, some Japanese find the idea of eating fermented milk that’s been concentrated into a solid food to be unappetizing.
Wait a minute, d’oh! I misspelled my username!
Yogurt would be fine.
A rogue member of the Hyena brigade? (From ‘Carry on’)
‘I cast Fist!’… Love it!
Well, this page was cute. If I remember correctly, Gelato is a kind of Italian ice cream but it’s technically not ice cream. Also, Gelato feels heavier than ice cream because of the air pockets that are made as part of the production process. Assuming I remembered everything right.
They’re so cute! Though I do find it unrealistic that there are no camera phones pointed at them while being that adorable.
Maybe they are off-screen? Just out of view? I’d say there would be a few, we just don’t get to see them…
My headcanon says that all of these panels were taken with the closest camera phone. The rest are all spread out unevenly behind Robin’s camera phone.
Hmmm, yeah, that could work. Sounds good to me… 😊
I’ve been trying to reread Jesse’s Adventure but i cant find the updates between the voting incentive one and the most recent update on Webtoons from August. Where should I look to find it?
I read it on Patreon. It looks like it’s a voting incentive / Patreon only thing. It is at least available for all patrons.
Hey there 😀 I update the webtoons archive every so often. I leave a bit of time so I can combine some of the pages into one update and do like, 2 or three updates at once. I will update there again this week so you can catch up with the last parts. 😀
Did anyone else notice that Jin didn’t append “-san” to Kai or Kaya’s names?
I figured that, being as he was referring to them only by way of identifying Romero, honorifics were [assumed by Robin to be] unnecessary.
Or that needing to add honorifics would result in an unwieldly speech bubble for the panel. Either or.
Honorifics are still used when referring to someone in the third person, and in phrases like “(person)’s Dad”. There’s a couple of other reasons why it’s okay to drop honorifics here though.
Dropping the honorific is not uncommon with friends, it’s very informal but they’re kids, so it fits. Also, Jin’s speaking English right now, honorifics aren’t required. He may still be using them a bit (it probably feels weird to not use them in more polite situations like speaking adults or meeting someone for the first time), but I’m sure he knows they’re not expected here.
I’ve actually seen/heard Japanese speakers apologize for using honorifics when conversing with a group of English-only speakers. I don’t know if that’s common, but there are at least some Japanese who feel it can sometimes not only be OK to not use them, but inappropriate/impolite to use them.
Anyone notice the vendor of the ice cream is female? And maybe single? Hmmm? At least I think so? Only the author knows for sure!
Looks slightly ambiguous from this distance.
Very cute, but Lisa **BETTER** warn them fast.
And so it begins! Seems like the Benjin Tower is having fun. I’m assuming Jin has a good hold on that stack of flyers, or they’d be flying off. Benji doesn’t seem to be affected by the weight on his head and shoulders.”I cast fist,” lol.
Oh hey, there’s the guy who was sitting behind Liz at Cometstruck Coffee – the dog hybrid with one white ear and a green nose. (He was gone by the time Larissa revealed the fish heads so he probably didn’t overhear anything important. I just noticed his recurrence.)
So the hybrena practises Elene magic?
Gelato stand? Well, looks like we know where the twins are headed towards the end of the festival. Luckily things seem to be getting off to a pretty good start, and since the alert has already gone out regarding a certain jar of fish heads, I’m feeling pretty optimistic about the outcome here. All that remains to be seen is if this one festival provides enough revenue to finish up the restaurant. I’m legit excited to see it open despite the fact that this is just a comic. I’m want to see just what design Robin has come up with for the storefront/interior. Ah well, patience is a virtue. Another amazing page Robin. Benji and Jin working together is just such a wholesome image. (Especially the fact that Jin is being carried around.) Thanks for brightening an otherwise stressful week. It means a lot. Keep up the good work, keep making people’s days better, and as always, stay awesome!
“Jim could probably sell people car insurance and they wouldn’t realize.”
I don’t think Jin would realize it either, since he’s like nine and doesn’t have a full grasp of English just yet. If it were in Japanese, he probably would understand it a bit.
Team BenJin seems to be attracting a lot of fans, no doubt thanks to their combined puppy cuteness (puppy-cat/puppy-cub cuteness in Jin’s case)! Jon looks like he’s having fun and doesn’t seem the least bit nervous, maybe Benji’s fur has soothing effects on people. I’m sure Due Draghi will be visiting the Gelato truck when they’re on break or when they’ve closed for the day, just make sure Kaya doesn’t get any mocha espresso gelato otherwise she won’t be able to sleep for days and bounce off the walls. I can picture it now: Kaya: “Chocolatechocolatechocolatechocolate! Ineedmore, muchmuchmuchmuchmuchmuchmore!”
Kai: “Not again. None of use will get any sleep tonight…”
*Three days later*
Kaya: *Shambles around to the breakfast table where Kai and their friends are sitting after watching Kaya for the duration of her caffeine intake. Kaya flops down onto the floor and starts dragging herself forwards.* “Soo… Tired… Must.. get home.. To die… Bleh!” *Completely faints with her tongue sticking out and “X” s for eyes. Kai covers Jin’s eyes to shield him from Kaya’s indecency and glares at everyone else to divert their vision while he covers his twin with a blanket.*
Kai: “You’re already home, you lazy little lizard…”
He’s actually 10.
I was close. I did say he’s around nine, so at least I gave a close estimate
Also, Jin going to festivals back in Japan? Sounds like a flashback to the earlier life of Little Jin! Would he look even smaller and cuter? It would be interesting to see more of his backstory, however brief it may be, I’d also like to see more of the back stories of the other kids, their early childhood, their misadventures in infancy (Kaya, I’m looking at you), and the all round cuteness and humor of these kids when they were little.
2 more days for a new page. I can’t wait.
Ah, Mulch, the 18th is a Monday, isn’t it? Now I’ve gotta pick priorities.
“In your heart you know who you are. Come to the dark side!”
I don’t know what you’re talking about, but my prioritization has been chosen for me. My internet connection is experiencing a slowdown, which means the odds of me having the download on Monday finished before the next page goes up at 9AM in my area is unlikely.
I just binged read (I think that’s the word) this comic and I can say that I LOVE IT!!!
I was just searching for stories that have good dragons {not the evil kind} when I found this gem.
I would donate a bunch of money to help keep this comic going {I’ve read too many dead fan-fictions ='( } but I spent A LOT of money on a graduating ring this year. If I get some spare money I’ll definitely buy some merch.
P.S.-If you had any suggestions on some good wholesome stories with dragons, they will be greatly appreciated =)
{I really have to much free-time on my hands…}
“Dealing With Dragons” by Patricia C. Wrede. (It’s a book though, not a comic.) First in a series of four.
Humorous. Some dragons are good, some are not. -Main- character is a human princess.
