As Sans from Undertale would say “Geeeeeet Dunk on”
edit: “geeettttttt dunked on!!!”
*megalomania plays*
The pressure’s on,
feeling fast.
Get on your feet;
it cannot last.
The feeling’s strong.
The passion’s hot,
the tempo’s up.
No going wrong,
it’s for pride’s cup
and you belong.
Gird your loins
and guard your space.
Liven up, pup
and watch your pace
and then go long
It’s your slam dunk,
don’t feel the funk
from the audience above
Where’s the love?
(No cheers from Kaya, Benji or Cleo?)
No, they are standing in shocked silence as Kai dunks in the WRONG GOAL!!!
I was wondering if maybe in one-on-one basketball there aren’t right or wrong nets, just nets and people who touch the ball last before they go in?
Otherwise, woops!
If it’s anything like the rules I play with, it’s half-court, one goal only. The ball must be taken out a certain distance from the basket on a change of possession before the player can score with it, such as 15 feet. So you can’t put up a rebound of the other player’s shot or steal it from him underneath and put it up. Since the shot was blocked out near the top of the key, Kai has legally scored.
If they are playing full court, this is the strangest one-on-one ever, and no wonder they are winded. Pretty soon they both will be walking up and down the court.
If Rex is a good player, he will soon do a few pump fakes to get Kai to leap high in the air, and then drive around him to the hole while he’s helpless up there. That’s the normal strategy to use against a smaller yet very athletic opponent.
That’s what Benji and Cleo were saying , then the coach seeing it on the video : Rex is a very gifted basket-baller . He’ll react quickly to overcome Kai’s abilities , normally
One-on-one is played on half a court, so there is only one net. I went with those rules and loosly applied them to the match since it’s not a basketball webcomic xD
Are you also the K&K Welsh Rat?
There can only be one.
Flies like a rock. But it is good that he believes… until he hurts himself.
Kai is pretty sturdy, he won’t be hurt from jumping :p
The jumping never hurts. It’s th landing that can break things.
Mathematically speaking, you always exert more force on the lift off than the landing, assuming both are at the same height and there is air resistance. (No air resistance means you exert the same force for both.)
Yes, but on lift off, you are prepared and have as much contact with ground as possible. On landing, the force may be smaller but if you apply it at smaller surface by mistake …
Now, the real test is if Kai can last the whole game. He had some endurance problems right?
Indeed, endurance isn’t his strong point. He’ll have to pace himself.
Why do I get the feeling that by the end of this the jock will wind up a cheater?
Did he just score on him self
No, one-on-one is played on half a court, so both play to the same net.
Ew! No, he didn’t score on himself, he was all up in Rex’s face.
…I need to get my mind out of the gutter.
If Rex isn’t careful all those sparks he’s having are going to make his fur all puffy. 😉 Static electricity can be a harsh mistress.
Also those sound effects have no respect for the 4th wall.
haha, good thing they have nothing to do with electricity xD
Everything about this setup makes it look like Kai’s celebrating this basket too early… Young one, what did you do? I still have gold going on this you know! Anyway, keep it up, Robin! This comic is hard to describe as anything but awesome, funny, and well drawn. Maybe not as part of the official storyline, but I kinda want to give one of my potions either to the the winner or loser. Personally I think Rex would look quite amusing with pink fur for a day, or Kai with polka dots. As for if I gave a potion to the winner… well, I’d like to hear from you. Whoever is reading this. Be it Robin, another reader, or even one of the characters themselves. What should I offer to Robin to use in the story as either a punishment for the loser or a prize for the winner? I mean, there’s like no way it’s getting into the story I’m sure. Not unless you want it in there Robin and find a way to work it in. But I’d love to hear what people come up with! Peace out everyone, get thinking! Alpha is waiting to challenge himself with some interesting brewing.
There’s always the option a one shot, April fool’s perhaps? (Nah that’d be too long but you get my point)
As for the potions are we talking only color/pattern changes or is anything fair game? Cause the first thing my sleep deprived brain thought of when I read that was the classic “for the next Xdays, bubbles float out of your mouth every time you talk” type thing.
I just discovered the extras tab, maybe there if Robin felt like it?
Maybe we could talk Robin into doing it there. As for limits, we’re talking anything from growing a second tail for a while to having an uncontrollable laughing fit whenever you hear a certain word. For Kai I could make that fire breath into bubbles. Or maybe give Rex fire breath and hope he doesn’t burn that long snout of his. No limits except your own morals here people. Feel free to let the creativity flow and hope Robin will find this an amusing spare-time project!
I don’t mind making a little drawing of the winner/loser/both with a potion effect :p
Maybe we could hold some kind of poll to decide this xD
That’s what I’ve been trying to do in the comments here. xP Maybe include a little note somewhere for those that don’t read the comments? Keep this up Robin! It looks great. And glad you’re on board with the idea.
It appears that a poll will be necessary if we do want to do this. The comments section is failing us. xP
I only read the comments the day before the next stream, so…
I don’t know much about basketball, but last weeks and this weeks pages do make it look like Kai scored in Rex’s basket.
Robin 2 weeks ago:
“Strictly speaking that would be a foul in a one-on-one game. Real life rules demand you return back over the three-point line after you steal the ball of the opponent (since you’re playing on only one side of the court). Since Kai technically stole the ball he should be going back behind Rex and start the attack from there.
I’m not really following the rules that strictly in the comic though. I go for what’s most interesting. It’s not a basketball webcomic after all xD”
But judging from Kai’s expression in the last panel I don’t think that the point is going to count even if the rules are a bit different. It’s weird though, because Kai had a week of professional training and should know the basic rules, but it’s not out of character for him to forget. 🙂
Thanks, I obviously don’t read the comments as much as I think I do, or I just forget.
You’re welcome! 🙂
Looks like I’m technically the third person to point this out but whatever. By the next comic it will turn out that he scored his own basket.
One-on-one is played on half a court, so they both play to the same basket :p
im not sure if basketball allows the use of your tail to touch the ball or jump high with said tail.
ofc this is a world with people having tails. but does a tail count as a hand?
Tail is still considered fair play since there are no rules about it yet.
Will Rex soon start grabbing the tail to slow Kai down? Will that count as a foul if there are no rules about it? Maybe they went over these before the match and it just wasn’t in the comic. I guess the players are calling their own fouls and violations as would be normal in one-on-one if no one is available to ref, but they should have got a neutral referee with these stakes.
With that big a tail, I guess Kai would have problems in a true five-on-five game when things get crowded. Other players are going to be tripping over or slapped by the darn thing constantly. How would he play with his back to the basket?
Two points and Kai is already shouting victory ………. The waking up will be hard for him
Meanwhile , i’m afraid about something ; and i hope it won’t happen . The next strips will show it or not ……………
Yeah, he should really not be so early for that :p
In the panel where Kai is falling from the slam dunk, the net is not much higher than where he is. Taking into consideration that Rex is quite a bit taller, wouldn’t Rex be able to touch the net without jumping? That’d make dunking a lot easier for him.
Rex: “Okay, Shrimp, save the touchdown dances for the football club!”
I like Kai’s surprised look on panel 7 with the vertical drop.
