These helmets are really one-size-fits-most.
A bit like military uniforms.
One size – fits no one
My uniform fit.
Unless you include the boots. :/
I can’t remember what movie it’s from…
“What’s your boot size?”
“Size 9, just like everyone else.”
At least they had the right idea about wearing helmets. But otherwise, looks like fun. However, with twin dragons using their strength and speed, slight bruising would likely happen.
Also to play on the beach, where the sand can cushion the fall.
She took him from his throne;
this King of their own beach game.
Seeing the prize from second
is never going to feel the same.
The holiday interlopers came and ran
back home to their awful village;
denying him his right revenge
(if not the chance to loot and pillage)
But now they’re back in town
and he has the chance to go for freebies…
Restoring his fallen pride against those
who, when eight, were cuter than Chibis…
Gotta admit, you do a pretty good job on these each week. Not bad at all. Definitely better than I could do…. 😋
All you need is a Celtic harp and some bardic clothing and you’d be 100% authentic. 😏
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Hey, they’re still cute now. But they’re a lot tougher, too. Allessandro’s toast.
I just know I wanted to use ‘Chibi’s in a poem.
Chibi, chibi, dragons of trouble;
Fire burn, in the kitchen’s rubble.
Play the chibi children make;
And in the cauldron playset bake;
Use eye of potato, and pie-rat’s grog,
Wooly worm’s squirm, and run of the dog,
Benji’s bark, and ear-worm’s sing,
Of Lizzy’s legs, and dragons’ wings,
For a charm of powerful mischief double,
Like a dragon’s broth’s enticing bubble.
Chibi, chibi, dragons of trouble;
Fire burn in the kitchen’s rubble.
There ya go; 5 times in one poem. 🙂
…oh, dear, what a mess. I hope that didn’t happen…grounded for six months?
Can’t argue with that. Thanks so much for your reply, love to hear from you.
@The Patient One : IF you’re talking to me.. Mine’s just a poem to tease Welshie. He wanted to use a chibi in a poem, and just used the word once at the very end. So I teased him by making a poem that used the word “Chibi” 5 times. My basic poem is based off the 3 Witches’ rhyme in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” play. Sort of a parody. 🙂
Yes, I did get that. Just wanted to make that joke, since it was set up.
Wounded pride: the source of many rivalries.
i seriously wonder how he plans to win his rematch – sure, he´s bigger and stronger now, but so are the twins. he´s got no chance…..unless he has one hell of an ace up his sleeve
Hopefully not something dirty regarding that ace, like Kaya’s lance being sabotaged. Hoping it’s either he’s just been training hard and perhaps All has developed some skill or technique.
“How would you beat them?”
“With a stick. As they slept. But on her Brother’s shoulders, with a lance? That girl is unbeatable….”
I’m guessing he made friends with a hybrid. Bigger probably but not necessarily better for charging at dragons.
Practice? Unlike the twins he is here all year around.
“You want the licence plate of that truck? Sorry, but I think Kaya is unlicensed, so we can’t fulfill the request of your non sequitur. *Thud!* Oh, thank goodness he’s still breathing, no one has died.”
Little dragons! We get to see Kai and Kaya as adorable little kids! I see they wore their signature outfits back the. Poor little Al got thrown in the water, leaving the beach without his crown and in soggy shorts… Thankfully, his soul went back into his body and no one died (though hope this doesn’t mean Al had a near death experience), though it didn’t prevent him from getting more saltwater on his face… I hope Kaya was a good sport about this, she was a bratty little kid in a side comic set around this period (well, brattier than today).
How come Kai was the steed and not the joust-er? Didn’t he want a turn?
I’d guess Kaya really wanted to be the jouster and Kai already learned that it is best not to argue with her when she really wants something.
I’d add on that being the Male Twin, he would be expected to be the stronger out of the 2 of them. Whether or not that was true would require testing, but it is the stereotype which I could see Kaya using to her advantage…
Throw in the fact that none of the other kids would have been strong enough to carry either Twin for too long without being noticeably older than them, and you wouldn’t be able to have them compete against each other so Kai could steal the crown….
Annabella said they were all eight years old when the jousting game was invented. I do not think boys are generally stronger than girls at that age. I suppose it’s possible that Kaya might have claimed so.
I’ve read stories about people riding dragons, and there are many tales of knights on horseback charging at dragons, but a mounted dragon with a lance is a concept I haven’t seen before. 🙂
You left out that the steed is also a dragon.
It’s irrelevant to his statement.
For dragons as steeds, see Pern, Inheritance, one exceptional case in Earthsea, et cetera. That concept is pretty well established in popular culture. That’s why I wrote “I’ve read stories about people riding dragons”. A dragon in the knight’s role – whether riding on a horse, another dragon or something else – is what’s new to me.

Apparently Annabella wasn’t there for Kaya’s coronation. If nobody was brave/stupid enough to challenge Kaya until now, this would be the first time Annabella watches her cousins jousting.
No, we know that:
1. They startet that jousting when they were 8 years old.
2. They are now 15 years old.
3. They didn’t see Allessandro last year. (I guess he was away)
So they could fight at the ages 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. And it is likely there was more than one fight per year.
🎵 Fancy free, watch that scene, she is The Jousting Queen 🎵
Seeing how strong are the twins, he should feel lucky they know enough to not use full strength. Otherwise, not just his pride would have been hurt.
That’s what the padded lances are for; no penetration means no lasting injuries. (And besides, it looks like he had his back to the water when they tilted, so even if he got some extra air, it’s a much softer landing than the alternative.)
Blunt impact is just as dangerous as piercing injuries, it takes more force to do damage, but the damage is more spread out and less obvious
That’s not really true.
An helmet, IE, doesn’t eliminate the force of impact (adding weigth to the head, it even enhances it), but it spreads it over a longer time and over a larger area, so greatly reducing the danger.
A push exerts more force than a punch, but it’s not nearly as dangerous, because the force is spreaded over a longer time.
That’s the purpose of the padding. To spread the force of impact over space and over time, so that every single point of impact is not hit with enough peak force to be damaged.
This is why new helmets have new technology that allows them to rotate upon impact to reduce neck and spinal injuries.
Panel 3: Add a comma to “play”.
Also, at least she didn’t scar his chest.
There are two “plays” in that panel, and neither one needs a comma.
I just realized Allissandro is laying in the water. Pretty hard fall if he ended up that far away.
When you compare the unseatings in panel 1 and panel 4 you see the difference in power.
