Dragon feud
This is generally how century-long feuds between dragons get started. You push over one block tower at the wrong moment and bam! Revenge has to be taken!
Alternatively, this could be kaiju battle :p

Well, I suppose that answers the question of “What unusual trait does a komaimu have that classifies them as a mythical hybrid rather than a variation on a mundane animal”, now, doesn’t it.
Yeah, it does answer it for at least a part already. Look forward to monday ^^
I -always- look forward to Monday!
I second that. Regardless of what tortures Monday brings, the updates of those who publish something on Monday always make it worth it.
Also, Jin just looks so lost at their conflict, he’s a walking example of Reiniger’s point about the involuntary lack of socialization that might result for mythical hybrids.
From Panel #2, I think he was beginning to join in.
I interpreted it as more of a “woah, calm down!” gesture, just based on Jin’s personality. Could be either one though.
Not from the facial expression. I think he was worried about Kai and wanted to help but wasn’t sure… about anything. Hands up to act but still hands off.
He’s not sure what to do xD
did you notice kayas flame is white with yellow in the middle. kinda like a egg. it is intresting and funny at the same
And thus, they part ways.
The dragons leave the hospital, and I’m more intrigued by Jin.
Mission accomplished! I had hoped people would be intrigued by him ^^
if that was your mission you succeded! i love jin he is intriguing
So Kaya fought
and Jin joined in.
The new friends here
did just begin.
There’s someone else
hidden in there?
A secret friend
for them to share?
Going home now;
back to Benji.
Will Jin return?
We’ll wait and see.
This is the greatest one that I have seen yet. Thank you.
Ka-chan? I hope that’s not japanese for “redrum.”
Why
Stephen King, the shining. In the mirror, redrum = murder, premonition message from a similar invisible entity. Incidentally it also seemed to give warnings for the intention of protection.
I’d love it if it’s an invisible rabbit though. Two films (at least) have Used them. Pooka likely fit the mythical theme with potential for hybrid appearance.
I know this. But why?
Heh. I’ve seen the “Harvey” movie and even read “SaveState” and never thought of a Pooka. THAT would make for an interesting, and 4th!, mythical hybrid!
The first ‘kachan’ that came to my mind was a Japanese way to say ‘mother’. So by that, she’s a spirit and probably dead. Which would make sense, since he’s a spiritual guardian mythic. Only he would be able to see the spirit.
No, it’s not, you can rest assured ^^
Japanese people have a habbit of shortening names of people they are very familiar with, like family or friends. Chan is a word they add that has a meaning of endearment for girls.
“They couldn’t see her either”? Interesting. I wonder just what’s going on with Jin? I hope that it’s not eating at him too badly that he seems to be the only one who can see whoever she is. I’d imagine it would make you feel pretty lonely, especially if even dragons remained oblivious. Jin is way too nice to have to deal with that kind of stress… you’re playing with my heart Robin! Too much of a cliffhanger! xD In all seriousness, this comic is great at making emotional connections with the reader. The well developed characters and the story that can never seem to be fully predicted makes for a great mirror to the real world. It’s an honor and a pleasure to read as always Robin. Keep up the good work. And as always, stay awesome!
Thanks for the kind words, Alpha ^^
Don’t worry, Jin is quite fine. 😀
It seems really interesting in dealing with imaginary friends. Kinda reminds me to the Fosters House TV series.
ByTheWay, what is written on the shirt of Jin? I can’t figure it out.
As I recall, someone commented on a previous page that it was… either Japanese for “roar” or the Japanese onomatopoeia for a roar.
If my knowledge of katakana holds true it is pronounced Gao, which is their version of ‘growl’
Maybe I a reading to much into this weeks comic but I don’t think Jin is the one with socialisation issues.
I am reading it as Ka-chan has an uncontrollable power so that people do not notice her.
Jin’s ability comes from the guardian aspect of his hybrid side.
He can see her.
VERY good idea there, Steve!
The shirt says ‘Gaoooo’ which is japanese for ‘roar’. Quite fitting for a liondog hybrid ^^
I used to watch Foster’s Home for imaginary friends 😀
Note to all, Ka-Chan is with a hyphen ( – ) NEVER use a double ‘c’…
MHA???
Kacchan is not a polite term. Not according to the Urban Dictionary, anyhow…
Dude. I looked up ‘Yiggie’ in the Urban Dictionary and it means ‘Kid With A Gun…’ Point taken?
@Welsh Rat
Urban Dictionary isn’t a reliable source as anyone can add any definition they like without any citations. 5 of the 6 definitions for Kacchan are referencing the same manga character. 4 of the 6 are innocuous as they use none of the forbidden 7 words, the one does use one of the forbidden seven words seems to be written someone who ‘ships’ an adversarial relationship between two of that manga’s characters, and the one that stands alone is clearly written by an English speaker rather than a native Japanese speaker.
Hmm, didn’t know that one. Thanks for warning everyone 😀
Those definitions are all in jest, making fun of a character from the series My hero acadamia, who is called kacchan.
Its in no way anything other than making fun of that tsundere XD
Well Kai seemed to take Kaya’s revenge well! Don’t be so worried Jin, they’re both pretty tough!
And a mystery as the twins depart! Well, got more to look forward to when Jin makes his next appearance!
But Jin doesn’t know that yet :p
How rude, ignoring Ka-Chan like that
Yeah, they should have at least said hi xD
I am going to say hi when I enter empty rooms now, just to be polite to all the ghosts and invisible people, and hidden cameras, just to be safe
ok….so either ka-chan is an imaginery friend, and jin is slowly starting to realise it now that even other mythicals can´t see her…or she´s another mythical and jin is disapointed that no one else can see/sense her, not even dragons
If I’m not completely mistaken, “Ka-chan” is japanese for “mommy” (and “Oka-san” would be “mother”). So, seeing as Jin only mentioned living with his father, and the fact they’re living at a shrine AND he’s a komainu, I wouldn’t be surprised if “Ka-chan” really turns out to be the spirit of his deceased mother (unless i missed Jin saying anything about her being alive?)
My first guess was ghost/spirit (spirit not being a dead person but other entity), though that’s opening a rather large can of magic worms, also how did they determine that he isn’t just hallucinating? Did someone/thing give him answers he couldn’t know? First thing that comes to mind is the stereotypical ESP “whats on the card” test he could ask the ghost/spirit what the cards are while they are standing behind the tester.
My next guess was a shy mythic type who can conceal their presence in some form or another, thought the conversation suggests the former not the latter.
I’m guessing he is past that stage if trying to see who else can see it is being tested.
Alternatively he was suspected of not being sufficiently socialised so it being a standard invisible friend is possible.
We are missing some information. Including whether or not the twins saw anything.
I’m wondering if it’s not so much Jin, as -Ka-Chan- who is being referred to as poorly socialized…
Pretty good guesses there ^^
Waffles! Paragraph 5: There should be a comma at the end of “stock”.
There doesn’t need to be a pause there. Not sure of the grammar speak but “stock, up on” just feels weird saying out loud.
I think he means the second one. “…and guilds have their own stock, as well.”
IMHO… 🙂 Neither statement needs a comma.
No, Gluten is correct. It is just proper grammar
Oh, my mistake. That checks out.
Ah, I see. Yeah, that makes sense.
And the twins leave quickly before anyone tells them to pick up all the lego blocks. 😉
So who is Ka? (“-chan” is a familiar title so the name is just Ka right?) Is she some kind of companion spirit, or just an imaginary friend? It seems that Jin perceives Ka as real, but he worries that he may be delusional when no one else can see her.
Of course. Quickly leaving before they are asked to clean up xD
Japanese have a habit of shortening names of people they’re close to, and long words. Ka is short for Katsumi, actually.
OK, Katsumi it is then. And the Japanese are far from alone in shortening names. I suspect that it’s a global phenomenon.
Is “Ka” Japanese for “Harvey”?
LOL!
Almost, it IS japanese, but it means Mommy.
Ka is a shortened version of the name. Her actual name is Katsumi.
Dragons are prone to quarreling when there’s a conflict of territory
I wonder what will come next. When it comes to Japanese mythological characters there’s the Baku. Baku are interesting little creatures, being as they love to eat bad dreams and make sure everyone around them has good dreams, the description of their appearance has also changed over the years due to some rather interesting influences, the modern depiction of a Baku is modeled after a tapir but their more classical depiction makes them more of a mix-and-matched creature being as it “has the body of a bear, the head of an elephant, the eyes of a rhinoceros, the tail of an ox, and the legs of a tiger.” So, would mythical hybrids be more in line with the classical depiction or the modern version? I know we just got a Japanese hybrid, or is Jin just culturally Japanese with their unique hybrid being from a different culture? That would actually be interesting to see, a mythical hybrid that is culturally from somewhere like China or Russia but their hybrid form is from somewhere like Greece or Australia.
That would be amusing, the Rainbow Serpent (Australian lore and mythology) hybrid being from Mexico culturally. There’s actually a reason I used that example, in old Mexican cultures like the Mayans and Olmecs, snakes were a very big deal, there’s a reason a version Quetzalcoatl shows up in the mythology of several old Mexican cultures, and the Rainbow Serpent is potentially a very important figure in Aborigines culture.
Yeah, I guess they are dragons after all xD
Jin is the japanese version of the liondog statues. The komainu. It fits with his culture ^^
Hmm, the mythical snakes would be interesting to Cleo :p
Maybe she’s reading up on them the next time Kaya pops up in her life
[insert “Dun Dun Duuuuuun!” here]
(seems using angle-brackets made the comment system eat my previous comment)
Angle brackets are primarily used for markup. My best guess would be that this comment system allows markup of some variety, and so attempts to acknowledge anything within angle brackets as markup. Non-functional markup vanishes in post.
Yeah, it seems so. I never even gotten a comment through in the system. It’s probably like Suomynona said earlier.
Allowing all markup like Suomynona said would open your site to cross-site scripting attacks. WordPress knows to prevent that, and it seems to do it by deleting everything that looks like markup except maybe some whitelisted benign tags. Looking at the HTML code I find that Tendo’s first comment is indeed completely empty.
Experiment: < & >
Yep, as I thought, some simple formatting is allowed through, and you can get angle brackets by writing them as entity references: “<” for “<” and “>” for “>”.
It might have been nicer of WordPress if it had disarmed disallowed markup by turning the angle brackets into entity references instead of deleting the whole thing. As it is, the commenter has to do that manually.
Either being haunted or has an imaginary friend…
Being haunted would be pretty bad, huh :p
I AM NOT HEARING A NO
Aw… Sounds like Jin has an invisible friend, who may or may not be imaginary. Either way, that’s kinda sad… I hope things work out, on that front.
Jin doesn’t seem to be too sad ^^
That alt text do…
Sorry it took me this long from you asking for the link to the discord server last week. Here it is now: https://discord.gg/DxaxVBd
Well, it’s true. It could go on his resume at this point xD
Ka-chan? Now where’s Deku?
THANK YOU!!!
Not that Ka-chan xD
Saying Ka-chan makes me think Bakugo was there calling them idiots the entire time.
YES SO MUCH MHA!!!:)
Haha, we just missed him xD
Ah yes, the mythical power of looking into other franchises
Is Ka-Chan a spirit or a character from a manga?
It’s a nickname (probably the first syllable of the real name) with an informal (as far as I know) honorific. Sounds like some imaginary friend thing. My money’s on inugami spirit powers, assuming Robin wants to push the realism barrier that far.
Ka-chan means Mommy in japanese.
That’s Kaa-san you’re thinking of 😉
In our western style writing it can be written as both Ka- AND Kaa-chan.
Because unlike with grandmother (obaa-san/chan) and aunt (oba-san/chan) there is no “either this or that”.
And with her being named Katsumi, she could also be called Mi-chan.
It’s not a character from a manga, that’s for sure xD
1. i meant to say this in Jin’s first appearance; is his appearence based on anime animal people tropes?
2. Oh, I thought they shipped Jin from out of the country, but I guess the temple is in the city their in.
3. My first thought was that Jin is coming to terms that he has an imaginary friend.
1. Maybe somewhat. I guess you can’t unsee the fact that he has animal ears and tails :p
2. The temple is build in Hybrid City, but they did move in from Japan.
3. Good theory ^^
It mighty mean that his mother might be dead and he can see her either because he suffers from a delusion OR has actually the ability to see the spirits/souls of the dead due to his temple-related nature.
Damn Robin, going the tragic route suddenly when we were just having fun with Kaya murdering her brother!
His mother is alive and well ^^’
That´s good to know.
Now i can fully enjoy the sibling murder again!
I’m going to guess that Ka-Chan is mostly non corporeal, but can affect objects if she wishes. And that she can be quite strong.
Must have been interesting, having a child that insists he has an invisible friend that can move things.
Good guesses ^^
Yeah, that would be pretty interesting if that was the case :p
I have recently started reading this comic and is not all trough the archive. But I love it ^^ The interaction between the two siblings are very well told 🙂
Welcome 😀 I’m glad you enjoy the comic 😀
The dragon feud would have to be settled rather quickly if they tried to settle it with a Jaeger.
Wait, what if Ka-chan is an imaginary friend that thinks Jin doesn’t exist?
Now that would be a twist, on both those statements xD
Dad: Come on kids, you can kill each other later, we have things to do.
Basically xD
What if ‘Ka-Chan’ Can’t see themself? LoL
now that would be problematic xD
Yeeee
Since no one seems to have done it yet…
Jin is secretly believing himself to be Izuku Midoriya and shall reveal himself in the next page as the new hero Deku who is seeking his lost rival Ka-chan!
How many MHA fans READ twin dragons
Okay, as far as I know
1. Mother in japanese typically has the honorific san. I dont know how normal it would be to refer to your mother on the friendly and equal level term of chan, which is typically used for someone of equal status that you are on really good terms with, or someone younger than you. Its Ka-san, not ka-chan… I guess onii-chan disproves this theory, since that is used for an older brother… Japanese is hard okay!
2. I doubt they would go to such lengths to test for an imaginary friend with a child that is said to have social issues, they should have assumed that, and already disproved that possibility with easier tests, like how many fingers am I holding behind my back?
3. His species and his background. His species and mythology, and he even lives in a shrine. Its all ghost or spirit related clues. Too much of a coincidence to not be something metaphysical. It could also be some sort of higher level spirit, like an oni or yokai or even a kami. Japan has a tone of spiritual things it could be! this is the most likely situation I can think of with the given clues
I have binge-read this in 2 days, and i haven’t slept the whole time. I REGRET NOTHING
Good job, Blu-chan! And, Welcome!
