Continue examination
Wacky as he might look and act, he’s still a doctor. Let’s continue the examination.

Well, I am curious about Kaya’s examination. Wondering how her doctor will react to her “dragonity” 😀
Kaya will cause Chaos, enthusiastically and unstoppable.
That´s what we love her for.
So we will probably soon get signs of a catastrophy in the neighboring room.
She is so going to enjoy the gyno portion of the exam.
Kaya: Ok, I’m lying down. Now what? What are those?
Doctor: I just want you to put your feet on each of these.
Kaya: Um, ok. I guess I should have expected those metal things to be cold.
Doctor: Ok. [ Thinking ] Well, that is definitely mammalian, and not reptile, openings and exits.
Kaya: Hey! What are you doing down there!?
Hey David
While technically, you didn’t say anything 18+, do keep in mind there are minors reading this comic as well. Make sure to keep the comments more about the actual comic and less about their reproductive systems.
That and usually gynecological exams require a chaperone in the room (a nurse). And in deference to Robin, though I do think proper information is important, all I can say is…look up a textbook. The ones you’re looking for usually have a title like “Guide to Physical Examination.”
Dad: they lay eggs.
The Twins: hey we don’t….
Dad: THEY LAY EGGS. BOTH OF THEM.
Twins:………
Oh, you will find out soon enough :p
You can see his ears, Doc,
they’re really right there.
But, if you go on in, Doc,
take a big gulp of air.
The exam goes on, Doc,
now you’ve really got him
down as what he is, Doc,
proof Dragon’s aren’t so grim.
Answer his questions, Doc,
you’re the one who can;
we’ll keep your secret, Doc;
of myths, you’re quite a Fan.
Troye, accept your lack of victory with grace. It’s no defeat, lil guy.
Okay, did anyone else read/sing this (sort of) to the first few bars of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”?
No?
Hmmmmm, I’ll have to work on my sanity a bit more…
Hello, old Fox. Long time, no sniff.
Yeah, it’s been a busy Summer and I’ve fallen behind on all but a very few comics. (I’ve kept up with this one because it gets e-mailed to me once a week.)
For your ear-related rhymes, would you say you’re waxing poetic?
But Troye needs his win xD
So moving ahead with checking the rest of things first before taking a look at what makes him unique, sensible. I imagine trying to figure out the fire breathing might involve things like x-ray, maybe a CT scan, putting a ‘scope down Kai’s throat, all of which means scheduling things ahead of time. I wonder if the rest of Kai’s checkup here will reveal that he’s unusually strong for a boy his size + age.
There’s a procedure to go through, so yeah, it’s the best he could do. As for the rest of the checkup, wait and see :3
Maybe it works like it’s revealed in Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story?
How does it work there? Might be, but I somehow doubt it xD
A Flame Pipe.
Just skipping the thermometer then?
Maybe that’s a secondary function of the thing he’s holding?
He’ll try again later, when the new thermometers arrive xD
I was going to comment on the ear-checker-thing but the hover text beat me to it.
Ha, gotcha :p
Well ; two sentences from the doctor : “- My priority is to know about your health !” and “- I need to figure that out later”
This means he possibly think about a scanning , such other “body autopsy” and deep examens , as soon as the check-up is over ……
No worries, they wouldn’t experiment on their patients like that xD
People seem to be very concerned about the doctor’s examination into Kai’s fire breathing. Relax people. He’s a doctor. He still has to follow the Hippocratic Oath even during research. Plus this is a family-friendly comic. At worst we’re probably looking at an MRI scan on Kai and Kaya to look for an additional gland to secrete the highly flammable vapors and expel them into the oxygen-rich air. They’re not going to be intubated just to see how things work. Great work as always Robin. I love how you can sense, almost without seeing it, the subtle changes in body language and expression that help us feel the doctor’s excitement. You do an astonishing job at bringing your characters to life, and it makes this comic a grand pleasure to return to every week. Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
You have to watch : “Dragons’ World: A Fantasy Made Real”
I can understand the concern, though. Then again, the way this comic has been going, people should know it’s not going all Umbrella Corporation on our two dragons :p
Thank you Alpha, it’s a pleasure to bring them to life every time 😀
Surprised at his restraint considering he was so excited. Oh well, suppose he is very by the book doctorish.
Surprised that neither the twins nor their parents ever though to think about what causes the fire breathing, looking forward to finding that out myself. I’m betting they produce some kind of liquid that ignites when exposed to air.
[Thisguy]:
My favorite theory for explaining “Fire-Breathing Dragons” was first found in this book:
…short version:
An enzyme secreted in the mouth acts as an ignition-catalyst, so that when they choose to “burp-up” methane-gas (a by-product of the digestion-process), it can ignite as it sprays from their mouth & mixes with oxygen in the air.
Maybe it crossed their minds when the kids started breathing fire, but fire SAFETY was on their minds soon after and they rolled with it from there xD
Gotta keep that professionalism going. ^.^
absolutely xD
I kinda wonder if this is a setup that there is even something special/odd about his ears…. or if I am just reading way too much into this.
The extension is the same thing as I’ve found vets using on animal ears. You need a little extra reach sometimes, I guess :p
I have some ideas (again) for how Kaya and kai breathes fire. 1)shoots gas out of a gland then lights it with a spark gland (both can be the same gland)like how to train your dragon. 2) DMC_run said before me and forgot. Could you please tell the link to the website where kai stands on his tail at the pool and the comic where kai gives Kaya the strongest coffee? cause no matter what I do to remember my mind is still too full of knowledge of dragons and myths
You can find those comics here:
https://www.deviantart.com/thenekoboi
gotta dig through the archive a little, though. I still need to put them all in folders. You might find some other funny ones :p
Also, close but not quite there for the fire-breathing :p
Yeah my theory is more likely to cause fire burps than fire breathing and super thanks for the comic links😀😀
I’m more concerned about when/if he learns Kai is also stronger than the average…. I was going to say ten year old but that doesn’t quite cover it.
Since he’s 14 years old :p
Well, a nice strength test does seem on order at some point :p
Dragons are strong cause they have to lift their body weight and cargo into the air with just their wings. Since kai and Kaya doesn’t have wings they have super human strength and extra strength in their jumps
Yeah, he is SOOOOOO gonna end up as a medical paper.
without being sick. I call that a nice achievement :p
Dragons have more variety than most people realize, culturally dragons are very different, each culture has different interpretations of what dragons are. Chinese dragons, known as Lung (the Chinese word for dragon), breath a mist called Zenchi, which roughly translates to “essence of life” and is described as having the power to healing any wound and cure any ailment, it’s the European type dragons that primarily breath fire. The Lindorm, also known as Lyndwyrm, is a Scandinavian type dragon that is specifically stated to be wingless, some are said to have elemental breath weapons, but that usually has to do with cold than anything else.
I guess the doctor is going to have to make a few calls for someone “more qualified” to come and to some investigations for Kai and Kaya, because I’m pretty sure twin Mythics is not something you see every day.
Animals in lore are quite surprising sometimes, the Otter in Irish lore is described as being a nearly invincible warrior, they are said to have one weak point somewhere below their arm and that is it. Now that has me thinking, do some hybrids have mythic variants? Because, as I said earlier, Irish lore has nearly invincible otters, suppose someone is just classified as a regular otter then they go for a check-up and the needles for injections and blood samples keep not getting through or just plain breaking, how would they proceed then? There’s also the plethora of legends, lore, and myths surrounding snakes and serpents, it would be actually kind of funny for Cleo to have gone years thinking she was an ordinary snake hybrid only to find out she’s actually a mythic variant snake instead, I’m sure she would just turn to Kaya and jokingly say it’s her fault.
Some of the facts I gave came from a book I bought back in 2012, The Element Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures by John and Caitlin Matthews, I highly recommend you check out if you haven’t already, it’s got a whole mess of legendary and mythical creatures, along with lore regarding ordinary ones, you might find interesting or useful moving forward.
Well, the mythical hybrids in my world aren’t very magical at all, so an invincible otter that can only be killed in the armpits might be not very possible xD
and there are definitely a lot of different kinds of dragons. So far, though, Kai and Kaya are the only ones we know of. The book you mentioned might be interesting. I’ll be taking a look at it 🙂
Thinking of this, I want to see a dragon on Doctor Pol.
Woman enters the Pol Vet Clinic and goes to the front desk.
Woman: I have my dragon out in the truck and something’s wrong with him. Can you guys take a look at him?
Receptionist: Sure, we treat bearded dragons all the time. Can you bring him in?
Woman: Oh, no. He’s not a bearded dragon. He’s a dragon, like 6 feet long.
Doctor Pol: [ Overhearing, coming down from the exam rooms ] Oh, you have one of those big dragons. [ He is thinking she has a komoto dragon. ] What’s wrong with him?
Woman: Well, he has been lethargic the last few days and he has been snapping at people. He normally gets along with everybody. I left him out in my truck.
Doctor Pol: Okay. Let me get my kit and I will take a look.
Doctor Pol and the Woman go out to her pick-up truck. She opens the horse trailer behind it.
Woman: And this is Warren.
Doctor Pol sees a white dragon in the middle of the trailer with cold mist drifting out of his mouth. The entire trailer is coated with a layer of frost and even layers of ice in some places. It is the middle of July in Michigan.
Doctor Pol: Jimminy Christmas!
[ The program cuts to commercial break. ]
Well, the doc is professional and has his medical ethics in order.
