City school
It’s just a tiny bit bigger than what they’re used to.
Also, behold, the first cameo in the comic. MysticScribbles was so generous to buy the cameo tier on patreon, and now her character Zuri can be seen as a zebra hybrid. You can see her at the right in the last panel.
If you enjoy the comic, or if you want your own cameo in the future, please consider donating on my patreon
Well I see a wolf a cat a fox zebra mouse or bat
Omg there a bunny or what I think is a bunny
Yup, there’s a bunny as well ^^ I think you got all of them.
ClEo
No longer special, no longer unique;
no longer alone and never a freak.
School opens up, school opens wide,
ddrawing you round, pulling you inside.
Cats and dogs and mice and zebras,
Child and adult, pupils and teachers.
Lessons ang games, enemies and friends
Time starts and stops, beginings and ends.
What you knew by heart, now you learn;
School bell ring, school clock turn.
Their past defied, their world gone wide
It’s time for them to get inside.
Great poem again ^^
I almost tripped myself up with Zebras. It’s not easy to rhyme.
I’m guessing that is why you opted not to bother… rather than, say, rearranging the first line so as not to cause yourself trouble with the second.
Let’s just hope Kaya does not go into a pouncing frenzy. She really is very outgoing, despite, or perhaps because of her upbringing.
I wonder if anyone here would watch her YouTube channel?
Not a pouncing frenzy, but she’s gonna start something, you can bet on that :p
That’s pretty awesome! Seeing so many potential students they might involve in the story too.
Thank you ^^ One in particular will join the story soon.
I’d dare to take a guess on that one, seeing the one best defined in that picture, with red eyes and stripes.
Actually, that one is someone else’s character. She supported me on patreon and got a cameo in return. She won’t be joining the story, but she might return a couple more times depending on how long she supports me on patreon. Good guess though, I would’ve gone for her as well :p
Back to showing who speaks when that person isn’t visible thing… I was thinking about that and remembered one trick used by some other webcomic artists… They’re using slightly different fonts for each of the characters so you can easily see who’s talking even if you can’t see that character.
That’s also a very good idea. Though I don’t think I’ll implement it in the comic as of now, since it would be a very sudden change in how the dialogue is handled. Still, thanks for thinking about me and my comic ^^
Also, today’s my b-day.
Happy Birthday Darkhog 😀
Happy Birthday, Darkhog!
Also, nice array of students you got there, Robin! ^_^
Thanks, it was fun coming up with them as I drew the crowd ^^
Am I the only one who thought “oh hey, its a Kitsune!” When seeing the fox hybrid. 😛
I’m sure you’re not the only one. A kitsune is very much like a fox anyway.
I know I did!
Shame the Cameo tier is $50… tad too much for me at the moment.
I’d love to join the school-crowd there, as it’s a great place to incorporate patreon-backer characters (and would help you get a bunch of ideas to choose from rather than having to invent each character yourself)
But I also understand the $50 mark as it’ll reduce the pressure on you to incorporate them in the comic.
(To be fair, I’d trade in the book, suggestion and sketch rewards for ‘character in school’ cameo 😉 )
Thanks for pledging though. I’m happy with every pledge ^^
Yeah, the reason why the cameo tier is *50 dollar is exactly because of the pressure to add them. Not all pages can be used to add a cameo. The school environment is perfect for it, but when it’s at their home, it wouldn’t make sense to add a cameo. That’s why I want to keep it at that tier.
But to be fair as well, I made those tiers back when I didn’t have a job. Now that I got a full time job, I kinda had to drop the Gamer Dragons because I don’t have enough time to draw two pages. The suggestion for the gamer dragons is actually not a good reward anymore, so I want to rework the reward tiers a bit. Would you care to give your opinion on some ideas? We can do this through mail if you want.
Sorry, late reply (No idea why I didn’t get a mail about your reply, will try to remember to check at least every time you post a new page)
Honestly don’t have any good suggestions how to rework the tiers…
$01 tier is pretty good as is, I’d say.
$05 tier also has no major problems.
$10 tier, well, since you don’t have as much time drawing Gamer Dragons might need a bit rework.
$50 tier feels a bit distant from the remaining tiers, otherwise I see the point of the price.
Maybe split the $10 tier into two tiers…
$10 for either the sketches or the PDF. (If you can make two tiers with the same price, otherwise choose the easier one)
$20 for both.
But always, always do what you yourself would feel comfortable with.
I was thinking of doing the cameo system differently. Now the cameo tier would force me to add them during that month or shortly there after, since I wouldn’t want to have people wait for half a year or something :p
What I’m thinking of doing is making a tier where you get drawn in a group picture with Kai and Kaya (every new patreon on that tier will be added so that it becomes a giant group photo, something like a school picture) and you go into the cameo pool. Every time I need a character to fill out the background, I would use the next character in the cameo pool, so that everyone gets their turn.
What do you think of this idea?
Oooh, that’s an interesting idea.
Also gives you a fancy way to show off most of the patron backers on the Patron page (which hopefully will grow larger) as well as a pool of reoccurring background characters. (Though a fair bit more work for you)
Potentially have a higher tier where people can suggest backstory/personality for their character in case you need a ‘random’ that the twins need to interact with… nah, scratch that… too much work.
Yeah, I need to figure out how much work it will be and how to organize all that, but it does sound interesting.
Alexis’s suggestion is very similar to what Bill Holbrook does over at Kevin and Kell, only he charges more (he’s a pro). The top three levels get your anthropomorphic avatar drawn by Bill in the form of an ID badge which grants admission to a special patron event at comics and anthro cons (and also free room and board at a certain mansion / boarding house should you ever find the portal to that world and be transformed into that character for real). The top two levels get that plus drawn into a patron group drawing that forms the back cover of the next printed collection. The top level gets all that plus your character appears, named, and actually interacts with main characters on a minimum of one strip per year of patronage at that level. Sometimes these can be quite significant: one patron who appears as a bear minister named “Rev. Bruinooge” has officiated at least two weddings of major characters, one of them being very major.
And they even have an Eevee in the foreground there…
… I’m going to blame the internet for the cat girl being mostly furless. 😉
That’s a big school! I hope the twins adjust well to this new environment. Knowing Kaya thought, there’s going to be a pouncing at some point.
Going from 1 in 1000 too 1 in 5 must mean eather most hybrids go to this school or the international hybrid ratio has huge holes
Well, I’ve gotten the impression from somewhere that this story is set in England. Making some simplifying assumptions that probably result in UNDERestimating the number of young people, I come up with an estimate of just under 700 hybrids born per year. (That’s for England – not Great Britain. The latter would be about 850 per year.)
And we’re told that only one in five students at that school are hybrids – so that would mean 3500 students in a single year/grade level, if they were all to transfer to the same school. If it’s only just-over-half (to qualify as “most”), that’s about 1800 students per year level.
I seriously doubt it’s anywhere close to that. In fact, the single largest high school in the US has just barely over 2,000 per year level; if the school thus described were in the US, it would be the 6th largest in the country. (Sorry, I could not find a comparable single list of England’s schools. Not helping: apparently lots of schools in England go from kindergarten through ready-for-college with no break from one school to another.)
The US, of course, would have far higher numbers – over 4,000 hybrids per year.
Based on some application of power-law statistics, I’m guessing there is another hybrid-friendly school in England that is at least roughly similar to this one, and between them they have 125 to 150 hybrid students per year level – so roughly 400 students each per year level, at 1-in-5 hybrids. There’s a big drop down from that, followed by a dozen or so schools that average 20 hybrids per year level, and then a few hundred so scattered hybrids in towns like the one Kai and Kaya just escaped from.
