Caring-for-sick Kaya is way too cute. Not fair.
LoL
LOL! “Caring-for-sick Kaya” makes me think of “Nurse Barbie”. HAHAHA!
Panel 5: My guess: Mostly because Kai & Kaya are dragons and have a much stronger physiology in general. Plus; the fire and the fire-fluid glands in their throats will be deadly to -most- airborne viruses, bacteria, and other organisms. Anything surviving all that and still capable of attacking and infecting Kai and/or Kaya has to be exceptionally strong and tough itself, making it even harder to fight off once it does take hold.
“And Now for Something Completely Different…”
Panels 4 & 5 are my favorites here. Panel 4; firstly because of both expressions, but also the dialog between the two of them. 🙂 Panel 5; probably one of Kaya’s best overall looks ever!
More likely the opposite. They effectively disinfect everything, and being infected is pure chance — nothing can survive that, but gaps open occasionally. Thus, their immune systems are poorly prepared to fight things that occasionally pass.
Not helped by the fact they were raised in a small town which means they are new to a large city with a large amount of new people thus new infection vectors, and said small town was…. honestly kinda garbage at giving them shots.
Chibi Kaya is best character in comic.
All is fair in being cute xD
I can eat a lot. But not peas.
Do we trust noble nurse Kaya
and her whole kitchen conundrum?
She’s acting humble and humdrum;
is this punishment for our playa?
Now she’s risen and shone early
What will she do this dour day?
Will she act all adult or play?
She looks too happy to be surly.
She’s learned some sublime skill from Dad;
he may reserve her recipe.
It sounds good (and there’s no pea)…
But will the add-ons make it bad..?
What type of poem is this?
Its
ABBA-CDDC-EFFE
AKA make it up as I go along(!) Well, I got bored of just rhyming the even lines.
Nice and sweet of Kaya to do that for Kai. Stinks that it seems colds hit the twins particularly hard. Going by what Kai said: maybe cold germs like one or both of the fluids that makes their fire breath? At least until it comes into contact with air and bursts into flames anyway!
Colds like to gum up the works, wouldn’t be surprised if it affects their “newly discovered” fire glands as well; the more, the merrier.
Yeah, that’s my theory anyway. Extra gland means extra symptoms :p
The scary thing…Kaya used the recipe for the soup used in the 7th Guest/the 13th Doll/the 11th Hour.
https://images.app.goo.gl/dez2vTiwVkoeUFvW7
I’m sure it’s regular chicken soup xD
The 7th Guest franchise might make for some interesting Gamer Dragons, though…T7G is readily available on mobile devices these days, 11th Hour is still up on GoG, and the fan-made game (which still stars Robert Hirschboek), the 13th doll, is available on Steam. 13th doll presents the clearest graphics.
Oh, and I finished The 7th Guest VR. Too bad they didn’t get Hirschboek for that one, but Costello (one of the writers of the original 7th Guest, along with Landeros) went over his original work for the new game.
Jesse’s Adventure, panel 3: “We’d be running right /into/ a trap and we can’t take those things on.”
Thanks for catching that ^^
There has to be some kind of catch about the soup 🤔
Of course, there is. But as Kai said, he can’t taste it.
THERE WAS POISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nah…..LAXATIVES!!
xD
Chilli peppers. Or if she wanted to be kind, chocolate.
The extra chicken might be the clue. Dog food?
I would hope that their rivalry does not extend that far. Kicking him while he is down doesn’t not sound like sibling rivalry.
It’s pretty regular soup :p
I know I’ve said this before, but it’s nice to see that the twins are always there to take care of each other.
thanks 😀 I like their dynamic this way ^^
panel 6: Wait… Kaya! Cook your soup over an open fire and/or (two options. choose which one you like best) Is there a forest fire in there?
she can just use the kitchen instead :p
Yeah… so wherever would Kaya find an open fire??!!
Uhhh… The bucket?
Her own flame? Which also may disgust her brother.
“Eww! Cooked over Kaya’s fire-spit?!?”
Spit roasted!
the kitchen has a perfectly fine way of cooking things, no need for a bonfire xD
JESSE’S ADVENTURE…
Love how Troye just totally ignores the other two and goes about his business of doing something useful. 🙂 Great looks on his face. Also great perspective job in the last panel, Kai!
Troye being the smartest kid 😀
Bummer that dragon colds cause their sense of taste to become muted, guess that means you just have to feed them with really strong flavor for them to taste it. I wonder what it’s like eating spicy foods for them, considering they can breathe fire I imagine the sensation of your mouth being on fire is a bit of a moot point, especially since the literal breathing fire probably burns away all the capsaicin.
They love spicy food, and they can go a lot higher on the scovile (I think that’s it?) scale than most people can xD
I have three points to make about this strip, and I can’t tell which I want to say first. I guess I’ll start with the logical one. That way if I die from cuteness overload at least the first part of my message will be legible. It’s interesting to think that the twins usually get sick WORSE than others their age. As dragons you would expect them to have better immune systems than the average non-hybrid person. Although I suppose anything strong enough to get you sick through an improved immune system and through literal fire would be a hassle to fight off. It’s an interesting point of discussion to bring up. The second thing I want to say is in response to the theory that Kaya put something in the soup: I agree and disagree. I do think that there’s a chance something is wrong with it, but I don’t think Kaya is the type to, as rws so eloquently put it, kick someone when they’re down. I just think if anything is wrong it would be the result of Kaya still waking up as she was making the soup. We’ve seen her morning routine, and it is rough on her. That brings me to the last thing I wanted to talk about: OH MY GOD KAYA CARING FOR HER BROTHER IS SO CUTE AHHHHHHHhhhhhh…
…
I’m okay. Seriously though, that’s adorable. You outdid yourself with this one Robin. The opportunity to read this was an amazing thing to wake up to, and I’m grateful for it. Thank you for continuing to share your talent as both an artist and storyteller with us. And as always, stay awesome!
Thanks Alpha 😀
I like to think that their extra fire-juice-gland is an extra target for a cold, and that might be why they have it a little worse.
Kaya made regular and very tasty soup. You are right, Kaya wouldn’t do anything to Kai in this state ^^
Nurse Kaya is cute Kaya xD
This page reminded me of a cute story I read some time ago: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/88218/enter-nurse-luna
The idea of Dragon sneezes being dangerous also reminded me of https://youtu.be/tc1QkePK888
That sneeze is just a little more destructive than Kai’s xD
There are usually advantages and disadvantages to most things. I guess one of the disadvantages to being a dragon hybrid is a somewhat higher susceptibility to some viruses.
I’m sure Kaya did her best with the soup. If there’s anything wrong with it, then she didn’t do it on purpose. Her behavior does seem a little suspicious, but it’s probably just her usual cheerful nature. The twins squabble and play pranks on each other, but they’re both always ready to help whenever it looks like the other may need some help.
Yeah, it’s just Kaya being Kaya. The soup is perfectly fine 😀
Does anyone else notice the fire extinguisher next to Kai?
If I had to guess, I would say a cold affects dragons more because they breathe normally as well as breathe fire. Since a cold “gums up” airways (the coughing and sneezing, what with the immune systems’ fighting off whatever infection), the dragon has to work harder to “clear it out”.
Also, since generating fire requires energy, more so than simply exhaling, I can infer that Kai’s body is having to work much harder to heal.
I wonder what their fever’s are like, (as in, how high does the temperature go?) since a fever is literally the body trying to burn out whatever invading bacteria/virus is causing the illness.
The fire extinguisher needs to be close to the sick dragon :p
The cold is affecting his fire gland. Extra organ means extra sickness :p
Maybe it’s a species thing? as they are partly reptilian maybe that affects the way they process illnesses compared to a full human.
It’s their fire gland. An extra organ means extra illness :p
They have it worse cuz of them snouts.
LOOK AT THE SNOUTS, MAN.
True, there’s plenty of space for bacteria xD
Now I’m wondering what it would be like for an elephant hybrid.
Imagine a second generation hybrid, a Both dragon and elephant kid sneezing.
Other combos could be cool for different reasons.
SAUCE
Haha She probably just put hot sauce in the soup. A LOT of hot sauce
That is EXACTLY what I meant by my comment.
Heh. I just brought home a 24oz bottle of “Texas Pete”. 🙂
“By the powers of naughtiness, I command this particular drop of hot sauce to be really, REALLY hot!”
Happy 4th of July y’all!!!
