Buttons
Kaya’s curiousity got the better of her. Again. She even went straight for the red emergency button.

Curiosity Kill the cat kaya also I never seen the two buttons before the buses in my town have one button and a string that dings for next stop
In my country, busses have these two buttons. The blue ones are for signaling your stop, the red one is an emergency button. I went with the busses that I’m familiar with. =)
It was kinda that way for a while on Poland too, but they’ve disabled these in buses that had them and don’t add these to new buses, specifically for reasons explained by this comic.
Poland did good then. Here in Belgium they’re always a little slow when it comes to logical things xD
Or they could put the emergency stop away from the “I want the doors to open at the next stop” button and make the emergency stop a different button that is hard for minors to reach.
Frankly though, I’m confused why buses would have an emergency stop that those on-board can access. Buses aren’t that big.
If I recall correctly, here in Massachusetts, USA, the buses and trains have emergency stop levers, possibly with a plastic cover. I say if because I haven’t ridden mass transit since COVID has been a concern.
I mean, I like mass transit, and I do occasionally pay ride fairs to try to ensure that it’s still around after the pandemic’s finally for real dealt with. But I don’t want to be in an overly crowded situation if I can avoid it, and at the moment I’m healthy enough and affluent enough I can walk to places I need to go without parking and drive to places I need to go with parking.
In any event, the strips to press to request a stop are much more prominent, and extend throughout the passenger area, while it’s my recollection there’s like one or two of the emergency stop levers per train car or bus. Of course, for all we see here, there’s just one emergency stop button on the bus, and Kayla just happened to find it.
Huh. Mine just has the strings. It seems like just screaming would get the driver’s attention faster than almost anything a button could do.
Our buses just have buttons here in New Zealand, but there are emergency door releases above the doors that would set the brakes so no-one could jump off while its moving.
Same here man
I wonder how often bus drivers have to put up with stuff like this. Many people, particularly kids who have not travelled on busses before adopt the practical scientific method of “I wonder what this button does, better push it to see” rather than asking others, or reading signs, or creating theories, or observing.
I think it happens often enough.
Lol… I hope the driver won’t be too mad at them.
Personally, I’m not sure which comic I enjoy more. This one, or this one… https://tapastic.com/episode/225092
Oh yeah, the ponyta that survived xD
Hey, another Freefall fan! Did you also think “Doggy!” when you saw Benji for the first time?
That’s the problem of having unlabeled buttons.
1) Some child (or some idiot) is going to press them just to see what they do.
2) In case of a real emergency, people may not know they’re supposed to press that button.
True. People trust in the idea that a grownup will tell you what the buttons do, but in my experience, it ends up like
“Don’t ever press the red button unless it’s an emergency”
“But what does it do?”
“You don’t need to know, just don’t press it.”
Way too many parents answer their child’s questions like that.
What could possibly go wrong?
~My (And apparently Kaya’s) Motto
Also, Timmy Turner’s motto, if you ever saw that episode.
Kaya’s on the line,
her attention shifting,
playing with new toys;
Bus driver’s drifting.
They’ve not seen it before
so attention’s smart
Action is her calling
For Kai, watching is his part.
Learning from her doing,
Kai’s certainly no fool;
She’s got to explain now;
he’s just on his way to school.
I can see the busdriver drifting now xD
… Do you by chance also do poems in a forum if a comic called “Housepets!”? This looks a lot like it.
Of* = if
That’s me.
I want to think I’ve seen Welsh Rat in -at least- one other comic too; maybe “Precocious”? 🙂
Benji: “Oh now you’ve done it…”
Morpheus: “So you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes?”
Kaya would want to see, I’m sure :p
This kind of reminds me of the wizards in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld – they do the same things “Oh, what could this be for? Let’s use it and see what will happen”
I love Pratchett’s books!
you know the saying, curiosity killed the kaya
“Oooh! What does this button do?” -Dee Dee, Dexter’s Laboratory.
Come on, Kaya! Haven’t you heard the saying “whatever you do, don’t push the big red button?!”
Thos buttons are so close together! 😀 I thought the emergency stop chains on British trains of the 80s were a bit of a risk, but this is great! 😀
Grian presses all the buttons
