Somehow, I knew Kaya was going to say that. The question is, will she be willing to make a DEAL for money? Is she opposed to her friend being the source if there is a proper exchange of services involved?
And Benji has voiced a belated fear of mine – namely, if all else fails will they end up moving back to the village of bigots? Hopefully, things don’t get worse than “different residence in Hybrid City”, but…
Kai: Kaya should be right out, if she doesn’t fall back to sleep.
Kaya: Those are not mutually exclusive… WHUMP
Back with the drifting Bus Driver,
who doesn’t look like a ‘Man in Black’.
Explaining the problem to Benji,
who works to help pick up the slack.
We knew someone had to suggest
asking their rich friend to help out.
It was only an idea, Kaya,
there’s no real need to go and shout.
You don’t want her cash, I know
but maybe get her to invest?
Perhaps letting Benji broach it
Will be the way that’s for the best?
you are very good at poetry.
*moving to a different part of the city*
Marco: Well kids I’m sorry the restaurant didn’t work out but at least we managed to stay here in the city. Why don’t we go say hello to our new neighbors real quick. *knocks on neighboring apartment door*
*door creaks open*
Larissa: *channeling Newman* Hello Kaya.
Kaya: *sarcastically* Well things are off to a great start here.
Fingers crossed that does not actually happen.
and in case people don’t get the reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xysTpJaOkCA
And there’s plenty of other clips of their interactions.
I wonder how Cleo and Red will react to the news. But yeah, things aren’t sounding too good for our friends at the moment.
It would be expected, but I was wondering, if not Cleo, Rex could help somehow to get at least some of the money – he is a rising basketball star, after all, he might have some connection or something 🤔
When Cleo acknowledges the news, she surely will offer to help out. However, this will be refused, they surely will find a way if they cooperate.
Yeah Rex will probably help out however he can. Not only is he Kai’s friend but I doubt he wants to potentially lose a teammate who shows the promise Kai does.
If they did have to move back, it’d be interesting to see how their old (awful) neighbors fared without them on whom to heap all their hate. Maybe they realized how much they all truly hate each other over the last few months.
Depressingly enough, I can confidently wager that their form of hatred towards the Romeros was NOT a displacement of any hatred towards each other. They’ll be perfectly cheerful among each other, and when the hybrids come back, the horrible treatment is going to return in full force and then some.
They will find somebody to hate. They’re pack animals, and a pack is defined by who is excluded just as much as by who is a member. They might be satisfied with hating foreigners from a distance, but I doubt it. More likely they’ll appoint someone as the most divergent person in the town now that the hybrids are gone, and victimize that person.
Well I’m glad they broached the topic of Cleo early on. I kind of figured it wouldn’t be a quick fix but if they spent weeks dancing around the idea without saying anything it would have just been annoying.
They can still dance around it more. I still think that somehow she ends up being involved. However, it will be better for their relationship they didn’t asked right away.
My vote would be:
Not Cleo, but talking to Cleo’s FATHER, & whether he’d be willing to invest $50,000 into the Romero’s restaurant?
😁😂😂😂
I’m just imagining he’s a “shark” like on the “Shark Tank” TV show.
Naw, he’s still 100% human. Remember: the oldest hybrids are only 16 years old. All that you see in the comic are the first generation of them.
Benjy didn’t say anything about BORROWING anything. Cleo might know some high-class restaurants who need a chef.
or recommend their dad as a caterer for some event – just because the restaurant isn´t ready to open yet doesn´t mean the kitchen doesn´t work. plus, with some orders in, his bank is more likely to up his loan
Lovely expressions in this strip! Kai’s in the first two panels, Kaya’s in 4 & 6, and Benji’s in the 6th. I also like that Benji is totally -not- reacting to Kaya’s shout in the last panel. 🙂
JESSIE’S ADVENTURE: I like Troye even more now. He’s the only one I know other than myself who actually says, “Okiedokie”! LOL
I don’t know about anyone else, but I used to say it a lot as a kid.
But what about -now-? I think “Okiedokie” is something most people outgrow. (I’ve actually picked up on some “Okie-day!” 🙂 )
When in doubt, ask cleo for money.
Or just helpful advice about it. She might be a great financial advisor!
The top-right panel kinda looks like it’s the bus driver talking.
Also, I’m curious, why’s there a blank black panel? Did things just not look right without it? Or is there some kinda easter egg in the black panel? I zoomed in but didn’t notice anything special. (I hope I don’t sound rude. I’m curious, is all.)
Innocent li’l me just assumes it’s filler to make the top row of panels the same length as the bottom row. 🙂
To imply some time passed and scene changed?
Benji and Kaya voicing the audience. Classic. Thank you Robin for this latest page, and for the relief that the twins aren’t afraid they’ll need to move back. It will be quite interesting to watch this chapter unfold and see just how Mr. Romero comes up with the money, whether it be through finding another job or an investor (*definitely not Cleo’s dad, because that’s just what we would EXPECT to happen*) seeing the merit of a new local restaurant. Regardless of the circumstances though, we can all hope that things work out for our two favorite twins. Keep up the good work Robin. Keep leaving us all on the edge of our seats. And as always, stay awesome!
Just me or does the bus driver look like he’s wearing the glasses blind people stereo-typically wear?
‘NO, WE’RE NOT ASKING CLEO FOR MONEY!!!’ xD Kaya remembers the bullies
I could imagine Cleo helping out another way, given the business her father is in…
“Cleo, darling, have you seen the master discs for that point-of-sale and business logistics software I was going to demo to the team tomorrow?”
“Um…” *hiding her computer while it runs an image duplicator* “No daddy, have you checked your sock drawer?”
I don’t think they are going to ask Cleo for money.
Just a hunch.
i really think that cleo will end up doing something to help kaya and kai. even though kaya wants no help from cleo
Dad becomes her personal chef?
While I admire Kaya being adamant about not mooching or leeching off of Cleo, some things need to be done and pride needs to be set aside. Besides, she doesn’t have to ask Cleo for money, perse, just ask Cleo if her dad would be interested in discussing a business venture with Kaya’s dad. It’s not uncommon for restaurants to have sponsors, especially in high population areas like cities, but it does mean that the establishment does have to make certain concessions to their business partner. That all said, I get the impression that Cleo’s dad is always looking for ways to expand the business, and he would probably like to see Cleo taking a more active role in business to see just how good of a fit it is for her on a more personal level.
It’s not ‘pride’ that keeps Kaya from asking Cleo for money, it’s -consideration for- Cleo.
The only reason to move back to Bigotville would be if they still have ties to that town, like if Marco has a standing offer to return to his old job, or their old house isn’t sold yet or something. Otherwise it would seem better to move somewhere else if they have to move.
What about Sabrina’s job anyway? Can she just move along with Marco and easily find employment anywhere?
I think Sabrina might also be an asset in the fight to keep the restaurant alive. The twins’ mother is a psychologist, after all, and if she’s clinically certified, she may make some good money. But I think her skills might also help out elsewhere…
Sabrina: “Hello Clarice.”
Not asking Cleo for money. But maybe for a advice. She is a the daughter of someone who works with investments and making deals.
Maybe there is some help to get there.
Somewhere ; i’m surprised Kaya doesn’t come with her full bed , in the second panel XD
its looking grim for the romero family,
i hope that they will finally see,
hope is what they need,
this warning they must heed,
a burst of power,
in the final hour,
they need lots of money,
and that is the key,
hopefully they arent to blue,
too see that too.
