And the win goes to…
Katsumi approves of that arm/wrist lock xD

You can only delay a #CutenessProximity reaction for so long before it goes off regardless.
The pressure was too high already. There was no containing it xD
The sound of a Kaya approaching at high speed!
#CuteElephantPounce
And she also ends up on her back.
Incoming!! xD
OHHH, that has to hurt like HELL! So I still think a power transfer and mind link is going on they are too in sink for it not to be.
Well, Jin is certainly not enjoying this xD
Kaya hypersonic death ray.
If Kaya was a supervillain xD
Kaya ruined the moment, probably should have seen that coming
Kaya, force of nature, ruiner of moments xD
More like Master of Moments, she’s probably made more moments than she’s ruined, of varying levels
Knowing Kaya, the*squee* can’t be helped.
Judging by the last panel, it looks like the resulting soundwave was stronger then I thought. It looks like Jin experienced it more acutely than the rest.
Though, having done martial arts myself, any loud sounds out would draw your attention.
The squee was inevitable xD
Jin has sensitive ears, which isn’t a good thing right now xD
Let’s see if this posts.
Why won’t it let me post the whole thing?
And so it all now ends
before it has begun;
with guys battered and bruised
like that guy that he flung.
Is that him sliding down
that we hear at the end,
or the excited cry
of an impending friend?
I see this works. I wonder why you couldn’t post before. I have seen no mentions of anything in the dashboard.
One more try… I think I found a word it didn’t like.
It seems it didn’t like the ‘fire’ word at the end of the sentence.
That’s really weird. Now I have to figure out if there is a list of words I can edit in my spam filter.
It’s hurting his sharp ears
as it raises higher
Surely he’s guessed by now
he’s been found by Kaya.

Katsumi approves! And now we know fluffy ears are sensitive to dragon screeching.
I would imagine all ears are weak to dragon screeching, but Jin’s are pretty sensitive xD
Ight here’s a slightly more fair (and quasi serious) battle
Ultra Instinct Shaggy vs Jin
Also I won’t be on for a while
I wouldn’t challenge ultra instinct Shaggy, even with a komainu to have my back xD
I meant UI Shaggy as in the movie not the meme, but hey, at least you like the memes like a quality person
Nicely done Jin, impressive win! Although the true win is going to to Kaya here in a bit because that Squeeeeeee! is about to go hypersonic and everybody else will fall to the floor clutching their ears!
Perfect win xD
Wow, she made the most serene of characters make a face like that, plus the other two. Must sound like nails on a chalkboard. After so effectively blocking the other two, it’d be great if she were able to tackle em. ^_^
Not nails on a chalkboard, but it is a pretty high pitch xD
Oh, wow, I JUST realized what Jin’s ears are doing in the last panel. That pitch is a LOT higher than it seems, isn’t it?
By the respective reactions of the three students, much of the scream should have been in the ultrasound field.
*A wild Kaya have approached* XD
I’m guessing either A) kaya may have disrespected the master or B) this isn’t the first time this has happened after a lesson and Jin hasn’t realized who it is yet. With way I’m expecting To see some komainu guardian out of Jin next week.
*either* way at the start of the last sentence
Plot twist…the noise came from Reiniger.
I could totally see him go full on squeeeee if he suddenly could see Katsumi.
Or Cleo. Or Kai due to excitement over being able to see a match like that in person. Kai’s probably an otaku based on his knowledge of Japanese etiquette. While it would be funny to see that Kaya was the one to squee, it would be even funnier if one of the two who were the least likely to be disruptive were the guilty party, especially Kai since he was the one to tell Kaya specifically to be quiet.
The arm-bar in panel 6 would have been more effective if Jin’s feet had been on the ground and he was seated a little further forward toward the arm to focus the force into the shoulder. This would be very similar to the Disarm-her used by Becky Lynch in the WWE, but it can be a legitimate submission hold. I guess Jin is still learning.
All of them are always still learning. 🙂 And Jin is, I think, 9 years old.
Jin’s posture and technique for the pin is valid and appropriate for someone of small stature in the Aikido/Aikijutsu styles.
I used to help teach the kids classes 😉
Hmm I wonder what happens if Kaya pounces Jin 🤔
Equal odds Jin pins or dodges Kaya, or Kaya tackles Jin and is offered (half humorously half seriously) a place at the dojo
Honestly I agree.
Slam! Bang! Wham! Yeet!
One of these things is not like the others.
Just making sure I remember my English definitions right, the first three are onomatopoeia and yeet is a verb?
Pretty much. There’s also the fact that “yeet” was introduced in the internet age, while I’m pretty sure the rest have been around since the nuclear age at least.
Supersonic kaya
I do appreciate the inclusion of context important translations. Lots of artists would do a scene like this but not bother to help the reader if they don’t understand. Those footnotes help keep someone like me more engaged with story.
It’s looking kind of like Katsumi is in fact essentially imaginary, it’s just that Jin is really strong. I thought about it, and can’t think of any easy way to distinguish between someone that is imaginary and someone that is invisible, intangible, and silent. Even if he can speak to Jin, that can be explained away using the Calvin and Hobbes theory.
There’s a fairly high threshold here to overcome.
Reiniger’s papers in chapter… (checks ToC) …8 mentioned something about “test results [that] cannot be explained”. The conclusion I’ve drawn from that is that a test was conducted in which Katsumi was able to pass information to Jin, which could not be explained by an imaginary figment.
Also, I have no idea what you mean by “Calvin and Hobbes theory”. Watterson has explicitly stated that Hobves is not a figment of Calvin’s imagination, and one sequence of strips had Hobbes bind him to a chair with knots he couldn’t undo.
Hobbes might not be entirely imaginary, since he does exist as a stuffed animal, but Hobbes is usually much more “adult” than Calvin. Far as being tied to a chair, I don’t know how it is done, but it is possible to tie yourself up such that you can’t get loose. I assume that we see the bondage through Calvin’s eyes, it might not be so competent in real life.
Katsumi’s a girl.
It seems the ‘mythicals’ follow rules. Dragons breathing fire and all that.
An important part of the Komainu mythology is that there’s NEVER just one. They’re always in pairs. And, so I hear, quite often a mother and child. So here we have Jin being born in near enough the first wave. So he can’t have a Komainu mother. But he HAS to have one. So Katsumi’s only partially here. In spirit form.
Loved this fight scene. While I assume some enhanced strength is involved from how far Jin’s opponents were thrown, the movements themselves look like moves that would be some way effective depending on the situation. Wondering if the author has experience in martial arts.
Thank you ^^
I do have experience in martial arts. About 8 years in several arts. Never really got a high rank at any of them because of teachers and clubs moving too far away for me to attend them, but I have a wide range of experiences because of it. I also referenced aikido moves for these fight scenes ^^
Thanks Robin!
I haven’t seen such well done (and correct) techniques in a webtoon before!
You have also captured the effect of Ki projection in the prior Iriminage technique against the red belt.
I wonder if Kaya will knock into his spiritual protector.
I know is a comic without sounds and yet my ears still twitch knowing how high voice like hers can go.
Kaya’s squeal must have gone into ultrasonic frequencies. Only Jin (and probably Katsumi) could hear it enough to cringe😬!
You doesn’t need hybrid dog ears to that sound hurt them…
here comes kaya, lol
