Seems that your abilities have finally interested Rex ^_^
You have a chance , Kai ; so , hop on it
As soon as he connected the dots :p
With this drill you will pierce the sky~
Don’t believe in yourself, Kai. Believe in the me that believes in you. Yours is the drill that will pierce the heavens! Who the heck do you think we are?!
Just imagine Rex saying that :p
Didn’t even think about this one xD
Don’t get your hopes of waterboy drills being easier too up Kai, water is really really heavy.
No need of drills to be waterboy : just wear a bottle and give it to players during the break ^_^”
But it’s all in easy to carry bottles? :p
A bottle or two for five players per break , it’s not heavy ^_^”
H2O, not D2O. Less heavy water.
…I am thoroughly convinced no one here has tried to lift a tank filled with water before….
Rex is the King, not the Jester
and, it seems, he rules the court.
Now he’s done the job he needed
he’s showing he can play the sport.
He sent his message to the kids,
the lesson landed on its’ butt.
He knows he won and won well,
now he’s going with his gut.
The kid needs drilling and training
before he can become the star.
Rex can drive him like a trainer
and help him to run on far.
Great work as always!
Another great poem. Thanks Welsh Rat ^^
Well Kai obviously impressed Rex enough that he wants to give Kai a chance! I guess he sees in Kai a chance to take his team to even greater heights provided Kai can work together with him and the team.
Kai has some usefull skills, so it’s probably going to work out for the team just fine ^^
Mood ears strike again!
Ha! I like “Mood Ears”!
They sure do :p
Unless Rex really does think Kai needs waterboy training, which I seriously doubt, then I’m going to chalk my theory of “Rex is a good guy at heart who wanted to teach Kai a lesson but still would acknowledge his performance” up as correct. Also, I listed my potion ideas Robin. Got a favorite? Any problems with any of them? Either way, keep up the good work, and thanks for supporting my crazy idea of these potions in the first place. Stay awesome, and never stop making your amazing art!
I like the tie-dye idea, I could go pretty crazy on the colors there :p
As for Rex, I guess the potion where he can’t tire for the day would be pretty funny when it wears off :p
Then it’s decided. Tie-die Kai it is. As an added bonus, I’ll mix in a little of my favorite prank potion. Every time he talks, a little cloud of bubbles will shoot out of his mouth. Your choice wether to draw him talking or draw him with his mouth clamped shut to avoid that. Don’t worry, it’ll completely wear off after a few days. xD (Maybe sneak in a tiny bubble or two in the main comic as a variation cameo after uploading the main potions drawing?) As for Rex, he gets a day of being unable to get tired and being able to perform feats way beyond what he normally could, followed by this minus Kai’s talking at all: https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/day-of-resting/ I look forwards to seeing how it comes out! Keep up the amazing work Robin!
Her’s going to start demanding waterboy status just because that was the original deal, it’s going to balloon into a big argument, and cue competition #2.
Then he’ll kick himself when he gets a little rest and is thinking clearer.
He’s*
All the proofreading in the world can’t save me, sometimes
Haha, another competition would be overkill for the chapter though xD
Heh, was wondering if this is what was going to happen, that Rex would be impressed by Kai’s skills anyway to put him on the team.
Glad the story took this route instead of the new kid who barely even knows how the sport works beating the elite captain cliche. 🙂
I don’t think it skills so much as it’s the attitude and willingness to work hard. Sure he can jump and has some surprise moves, but Rex showed that they are only good for a single use, and after that real players will know how to avoid giving him the chance to use them. Great talent can actually hold people back as they become accustomed to success without having to work for it. While those of lesser talent but willing to work hard tend to succeed as the competition grows tougher.
Well, now that Rex has proved his superiority, and the competitor in him has been sated, he’s now started thinking again, and may actually recognise Kai’s abilities. Granted, I still think Rex is an overly competitive jerk, he could have found out about Kai’s skills to start with if he’d let him try out, instead of immediately dismissing him due to his size. Be interesting to see how this goes, since I’m still getting a “winning is the only thing” vibe about Rex, rather than the preferred, “let have fun” approach most school team sports SHOULD use.
If you ask me, that’s just what he did.
He let Kai try out…the hard way.
And it would appear that Kai managed to pass.
The goal never was to beat Rex.
The goal always was just to be good enough to be an asset on the team.
Of course Rex would’ve been a fool to tell Kai that from the get go, otherwise Kai wouldn’t have learned his place. 😉
Re_”Granted, I still think Rex is an overly competitive jerk, …”:
Compared to a dragon, yes, he is…
…but wolf-psychology is all wrapped-up in a rather rigid social-status, nothing in that ranking changes without competitive conflict, & nobody’s ranking in that society is immune to getting dropped to a lesser rank.
If anything, Rex is being civilized by competing in an arena that does NOT require bloodshed, as his ancestors might have.
… except Rex isn’t ACTUALLY descendant of wolves, he just looks that way.
Heh. Ah dun tol’ y’all Rex wuz aw-rite! 🙂
I like how Kai’s jersey is disheveled.
Also because I don’t believe I’ve mentioned it before: I like how you draw teeth; by which I mean you actually draw them and not just a semicircle with a white-fill connecting said semi-circle to the character’s mouth.
A not unexpected outcome.
Rex may be over-competitive and a little bit of a jerk, but he isn’t stupid. He knows that, if Kai can surprise *him* enough to score a couple of baskets, then it might be worth it to the team to investigate further. He isn’t team captain for nothing, after all.
How about putting ISKCON in Twin Dragons.
The Hare Krishna movement might be a bit out of left field…
Ah , the come back of the “i say anything” guy …………..
And he’s repeating himself ; looks at the last comments : https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/spicy-drink/
Water boy has been mentioned too often for things to not continue.
His sister will get involved with that one way or another. Even if it’s just occasionally for the opponents.
Maybe Kaya will get taken on as waterboy/girl. 🙂
How is ISKCON out of left field?
I am legitimately impressed you’re not a bot. You still posted a new comment instead of replying to Welsh Rat by the way.
It’s out of left field; or to put it another way just-in-case: “Having nothing to do with anything presented in the comic thus far,” because Hinduism, let alone religion really, has yet to be presented in the comic proper (it also doesn’t help it has nothing to do with this basketball arc). So if you’ve been wondering why we complain when you advertise irrelevant things seemingly out of nowhere, it’s because you suggest irrelevant things seemingly out of nowhere.
At the very least do something tangentially relevant like, “How about the dragon twins meet Michael Jordan.” Then give a reason to tie-in your request to the comic like, “Since Rex is so interested in basketball, Kai being able to say he’s met Michael Jordan might cause Rex to treat him better.” And there you go: a suggestion that is tied into the comic proper.
Holy drago, he speaks! Don’t encourage him though.
Aw, that was so sweet of Rex. 🙂
Rex: “That’s right, drills. This way.”
Kai: “Why are we going to the woodshop?”
Kaya: “Oh boy, this won’t end well…”
Dude, in combination with “get your ass in gear” this sounds horrible! 😀
Actually now that you’ve mentioned it, the original can be misinterpreted as well. God, why do we have so many synonyms for that stuff?
Is there any chance of a rematch?
Hinduism has drones of people converting to it.It’s their right they are entitled to it.
Wow, even though he won the bet, Rex may have been impressed enough to let Kai on the team.
Is it possible that Rex… want him in team? Not as a waterboy, but as a player? As a seacret small-super-jump-weapon, that rivals would not take sirius until they have taste his power… and it will be to late.
He’s as dense as he is short. XD
Well Kai, it looks as if you impressed Rex enough that he’s accepting you into the club/team. If Rex IS the captain, I hope you survive the drills.
