Heh, I see Kaya is a fan of the shotgun approach! XD Amy and Moon Moon better be quick if they want to avoid any splash damage!
One last bit of silly fun
with two standing in the Rocket run
It’s time to shift, Team Wendigo
or Amy will drip with the River’s flow.
Non destructive destruction
is their given intention
Of course it’s all in the game
and you’re new friends, all the same.
The final challenge begins now
and they have to win anyhow.
But, if they’re sticking to the plot
Should they risk so many on just one shot?
River, wherever you run, that’s where they’ll land!
With his luck, yeah!
Or, they’ll land just in front of him, creating a perfect muddy puddle to slip in…
Taking bets for Kaya’s “stuff-the-barrel” approach:
(A) the heavier load gives each projectile less force, so none of them even REACH the stage
(B) every projectile flies in a separate direction and none of them hit the Wendigo (but River and Amy take a shot each)
(C) the slingshot cradle flips around in mid-motion and Kaya takes every projectile to the face
I’m going for B: Scattershot and everyone gets waterballooned.
D, Kaya and the weight / mass / momentum from the water balloons moving away from Kai results in Kai getting pulled into the balloons.
He isn’t holding that taking physics into account so leverage is against him, he isn’t braced against anything etc
I’m sure A is countered by dragon strength. Kaya will likely walk further back than anyone else.
Modified (B+D); Kai hasn’t braced the slingshot properly, causing it to become unsteady during pull-back and release, sending projectiles over a much larger area than intended. River takes at least a couple of hits, Amy might take 1 or 2, Wendigo only takes splash damage…
Then (E); Kai braces the slingshot against his shoulder properly, uses the ground too for extra stability, projectiles don’t scatter anywhere near as much, Wendigo gets annihilated…
Proven their strenght, the A) option are doesn’t sound as a real possibility, especially as Kaya isn’t known for withholding herself when she is excited.
For the C) option, her grip seems firm and proper (by the picture), so i wouldn’t expect that one neither.
The B) is the most likely to became true, but i would say, that there should be some what hit the Wendigo as well. Not with a ‘bullseye’, but get some of the scattershot. But Amy and River will get totally soaked in the process.
…
Also, there is a lots of ‘ammo’ beside the twins, so i would assume, that they will repeat the attack as long as they has ballons left, without any regards about the Wendigo being defeated, or not. So, technically an ‘option… F)’, counting the other possible options within the comment section.
Sorry for the double comments, but the option D) shouldn’t happen – they know each other really well being twins and doing more than a few shenanigans together. Also, Kai being more level-headed, should both know and anticipate the power of Kaya’s enthusiasm. And also being the same kind of dragon hybrid, possess the necessary strenght to do so.
Modified (B+D); Kai hasn’t braced properly, slingshot moves during pull-back & launch, projectiles scatter in a much wider field of effect than intended, River takes at least a couple of hits, Amy might take 1 or 2, Wendigo only takes splash damage…
But when they prep for the next shot, Kai braces the slingshot against his shoulder, projectiles are nowhere near as scattered, Wendigo is annihilated…
What the?! Tried reloading the page on my mobile, but it seems to have posted my last comment again instead…

Thank you for giving me something to chuckle about for the rest of my day!
I like Kaya’s shotgun approach to loading the slingshot, and it’s no surprise that Kai’s holding, due to their hybridized strength.
And yeah, I’d get out of the line of fire. So, to Amy and River, run!!!
It’s funny that they realized that as the weapon was being loaded and readied to fire.
They’re not going to make it,
On no, they going to weighted
With all that water from all those balloons.
EVASIVE MANEUVERS, PATTERN DELTA!
“Not-Team-Rocket is splashing off again…”
So Amy’s and River’s surprised faces on the previous page weren’t part of their act.
Too late to run, Crimson Knights! You’re about to feel the sting of furious dragons!
I’m surprised Kaya isn’t volunteering to be ammo herself, that definitely would’ve hit the target(s). When Kai and Kaya have that look in their eyes, you know you’re done for. Will the “lava” balloons spread like shotgun blasts or will it be a closer cluster?
The bottom three panels give me ‘talking is a free action’ vibes
You could assume that the panels aren’t in chronological order. Sometimes artists/directors/whatever of serial media (comics, TV shows, what have you) will jump back a few seconds when there’s stuff happening simultaneously and they don’t have enough space to show both things happening at once.
Or, you could also interpret it as Kaya deliberately waiting for them to realize the danger, just for the sake of getting that perfect “oh crap” moment before she hoses the entire area down in water balloons.
Panel 1 and 6.
I think Astrid planned ahead and strategically withheld information.
I wondered why River had to ask Amy whether to evacuate – he is a big boy who can make that decision on his own.
Then I realized: He is a big boy, who would not run from water balloons while a girl doesn’t.
Did…. anyone tell Astrid that the twins are practically superhuman?
At very least she didn’t inspire them to breath fire.
The way Kai holds the slingshot looks like a mistake. He gets little leverage with his hand so close together, while the force from the rubber bands has great leverage. With his left hand uppermost he’s using his extensor muscles – which aren’t as strong as the flexors – to counteract the force from the rubber bands. He’d be able to counteract a much greater force if he’d place his right hand near the top of the shaft and the left one farther down.
Or I can be nice to the artist and say that it shows how strong Kai is, that he can easily hold the slingshot steady without needing to optimize how he holds it.
Not gonna lie…that last panel gave me a serious gigglefit.
Their chosen spot isn’t a safe position – but seeing the Romero twins all ready to shoot, the ‘criminals’ enlightenment feels a bit too late…
They’ll probably all miss Amy, just shy of the splash zone.
No, no. They’ll all do right turns, mid air, and hit River.
And then they hit Amy.
If Hybrid City is in California I’d be glad to refer the Romero Twins to Scout Explorer post 2402 (Mataguay Scout Reservation staff). This is custard’s last stand.
