Now introductions dawn
as Jin’s hearing resumes
and, with just one request
Cleo’s laughter consumes.
Hidden behind a hand
the lady laughs brightly.
As with everything else
she does it politely.
Now, though, it’s your turn Kai;
it’s time to introduce.
Make the introductions
and see what it’ll produce.
You are amazing.
I see the site doesn’t hate you like last time :p
Great poem once again ^^
Silly question. If they took off their shoes to enter the dojo, why to Cleo and Kaya look like they are wearing shoes?
Socks? 🙂
Kaya looks like she’s wearing socks to me. I’m not sure about Cleo, but it’s plausible there as well. Colored socks exist, but i think most guys don’t use them due to not wanting to spend the time matching them.
At least for Kaya, I agree it looks a lot like shoes, and it’s the same color as her shoes we see in https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/asian-district/ .
But maybe you can explain it away by saying the dojo provides indoor shoes for guest (although I guess those would be slippers) and they had pink ones.
What Cleo is wearing also looks very similar to the grey shoes she had.
Cleo does not go around stockless. She’s a lady. Ankle socks, probably.
I thought the same thing. But I guess when you get used to drawing the shoes on you tend to forget to not draw them for a panel here and there
Robin will probably be by here later to confirm, but in his weekly newsletter he admitted that he goofed and drew their shoes~
Simple! they grabbed them back and put them on
“Why yes, we were told to take off our shoes, and we did. Then we put them back on. Nobody said anything about wearing shoes in the dojo.”
Cleo could be wearing those weird socks that make it look like your not wearing socks while wearing shoes. Kaya’s though, that little strip on the bottom of the foot does make it look like she is wearing shoes.
Easy answer, cuz dragon feet are harder than shoes. Lol
Note I understand it was a goof up but eh 😅 silly excuses are how the video game industry operates so why not T.D.
My mistake. I need to change that xD
Jin seems pretty grounded, which is needed when dealing with Kaya. Also, Cleo and Kai are laughing at Kaya over that little interaction.
Cue intro to Cleo, I think Jin will get along with her just fine.
Jin is indeed very down to earth for a kid his age ^^
Got to keep up Alan’s self-esteem after being beaten so soundly by a prepubescent. Mind you, the question of “Can you beat a kid wearing a black belt?” has clearly been answered with a resounding “No.”
Took me a moment to figure out what the ‘bap’ was in panel 1 until I remembered the lever action from https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/mechanism/ . Just because you can move your ears at will doesn’t mean you always know what they’re gonna hit.
Dogs’ tails and Kaya’s ears keep wagging even if they hit something. 🙂
Normally it’s just the left ear flipping when they get starryeyed. Jin must’ve hit some kind of critical mass of cute to get both going.
For some reason, Alan’s attitude in panel 5 makes me like him. It’s not “man, you kicked our asses like it was nothing”, it’s “you make it look so easy”. As a veteran player of Final Fantasy I, I’m told I make level grinding in the Hall of Giants look easy, but that doesn’t mean I’m not borderline-panicking every time the attacks hit anyone but my Warrior, and I don’t appreciate when people assume I’m overqualified for it. Alan’s phrasing makes it clear he understands Jin isn’t just overpowered, he knows his limits.
Nice to see the adults, or Alan at least, doesn’t mind being beaten by a youngster.
Rereading the entire dojo session reminds me of the wisdom of Yoda. “Judge me by my size do you? And well you should not. For my ally is The Force. And a powerful ally it is.”
((I’m equating The Force to the combination of gravity, physics, and Jin’s apparent mastery of his opponents center of gravity))
Flap, flap, flap, bap, bap, bap! Good thing Kaya’s ears aren’t made out of anything hard or Kai’s face might be a bit sore!
Wonder if Alan is going to ask what kind of mythical and if the twins will provide a demonstration…. outside! No fire breathing in the dojo!
Their skin is flame resistant, so touching the gland with a finger (now that they know about it) and letting it ignite is an option.
Why? The twin can breath fire and that would be a far more convincing demonstration. Not like it would take long or be a great inconvenience to step outside for a moment where the twins can really show off safely away from the building. Not to mention doing the demo outside means neither twin has to stick a finger down their throat, which might trigger a gag reflex and/or gross out their audience.
I am really started wondering what would the characters’ voice sound like in real life 🤔
I “picture” Kai sounds like Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender, Kaya sounds like Coco Bandicoot from the Crash Bandicoot series, Rex sounds like Finn the Human from Adventure Time in the early seasons, Benji sounds like Lincoln Loud from The Loud House, Cleo sounds like Connie from Steven Universe, and Jin sounds something like Kid Goku from the Dragon Ball English dub.
Kaya seems to be starstruck.
I like panel 4 in particular. I don’t know if it’s because of Jin’s innocence asking Kaya not to squee so loud again, or because Kai and Cleo laughing at the fact that probably won’t happen.
Overall, another great page
Actually, got to thinking a bit and realized: somebody ought to get to work redesigning ear plugs for the various different kind of hybrids out there. The regular shaped ones might work for some but for others, the shape of their ear canal might be different enough that a regular ear plug might not… plug it properly. If Kaya’s squeeee bothered Jin that much he might want to stay away from things like power tools, especially those that spin things up to high rpm.
You can get soft, squashable versions that go inside the ear which should still work since they then expand to fill the shape they’re in. Hybrids would just have to make sure to get the versions with the string built into them, since they would have to work around their outer ears shape to get to the ear canal. Ear muff types/headphones though? Many Hybrids wouldn’t be able to use them I’d say, THAT would need redesigning for Hybrids with larger, “listening out for danger/prey” type ears. Guess that would put a dampener on the dreams of Hybrids that want to be DJs…
Yeah, maybe they should get some of the soft ones for Jin at the festival because such events can get loud. Specially if there’s going to be things like a live band playing music as well as general crowd noise.
One of us! One of us! One of us!
I sense shock incoming from jins friends. Also im back guys sorry i havent been around!
Come to think, Jin’s still got some pretty prominent claws. When I was taking martial arts lessons, they always had us trim our nails before sparring. (They didn’t want us accidentally hurting each-other – or ourselves – with them.)
This is one thing I admittedly do NOT miss about these lessons, since I can grow my nails long and like to do it basically whenever I can.
Doing it right now, actually. The whites are currently around *grabs tape measure* 1/3 inch or… 3/4 cm. XD
Jin’s claws look vaguely feline in nature, which means they should be retractable. That should solve most of the problems that long nails would pose in martial arts.
Well, Jin is 1/4 Lion since he’s half Komainu (Lion Dog). I’m not sure where if Lion claws are retractable compared to domesticated cats, but I do know that dogs (which makes up the other 1/4 of Jin) don’t possess retractable claws. He’d have to keep his nails trimmed if he doesn’t want to slash the flooring of the Dojo and anyone else.
You’re assuming an even division of features and qualities across the board. A lot of mythical creatures aren’t “half-and-half”, they’re “mix-and-match”. I’m LOOKING at Jin’s claws in-panel, and they look feline in nature. And yes, lion’s claws are retractable.
😥I guess that’s so… Jin looks like he’s 1/3 Komainu externally, internally is likely a different matter. Hybrids (in general, not the Demihuman type in this comic) tend to be half and half at the first generation, with decreasing percentages after inter breeding with other species such as one of the parent species. When I see the Demihuman Hybrids of this comic, I view them as 50% Human, 50% nonhuman animal with their physical traits as an even mixture regarding facial structure and build.
Re:Turtimus – Dr. Franklin mentioned in Chapter 8 that the extent of hybridization varies from child to child, so generalization like that isn’t particularly wise.
Also; some foxes do have -partially- retractable claws.
Technically, foxes are members of canine family alongside dogs, but I get what you’re saying. Though since Jin is half/part nonhuman chimeric hybrid animal species that is only seen in/heard of in legends, myths, and assorted folklore, it’s hard to say if either of his dog and lion traits follow the (known) rules of canine and feline biology as well as normal Hybrid biology.
Wait, is the book gonna ever be publicly available?
Also btw I do tend to just spew ideas at people just like I’ve done with the subnautica suggestion so dont take them the wrong way I just get an idea and feel the need to tell someone
Love how Jin asks the Dragons to be nice to him at the check-up even can deal some serious damage. Goes to show that he won’t misuse his skills. Sign of a true jitsuka
“Ah, so they run on gasoline and electricity too, huh?”
“Not that kind of hybrid.”
