Shh, just keep it quiet,
Kaya’s now in the house.
Be less like your own self
and be just like a Mouse.
Shoes off now, everyone,
it’s time to pad the floor
and, if possible, guys,
stay right beside the door.
Not just for the fighting,
Here you can train yourself
against the outside world
to find your inner wealth.

We really need a thumbs-up feature in these comments.
I like that couplet;
“Be less like your own self
and be just like a Mouse.” <<but is there any reason "Mouse" is capitalized?
Also liking;
"it's time to pad the floor" <<especially since they have no 'pads' on their feet. 🙂
I suspect ‘Mouse’ is capitalised because one of Welshie’s (and mine!) friends from the Kevin & Kell Disqus board has a fox friend called Mouse who is an excellent, and therefore quiet, hunter…
So cool to shout out to one of Welshie and your friends like that! 🙂
You might even say it was a capital idea.

Two dragons from a town full of witch-hunting paranoiacs living in an Italian restaurant en route to a Shinto temple in order to visit a komainu with a giant invisible lion-dog. #ARareSentence | You know you have interesting friends when the rich girl who WOULD happily hand over five-digit sums of money (but will not at her friends’ insistence) is the mundanity.
Also, classical Japanese architecture like is being shown here is VERY flammable. I really hope Kai and Kaya don’t get reckless and try to use their fire breath over the next few pages or that could sour relations with Jin’s family.
Yeah, it’s definitely a competitor for rare sentence xD
Jin has quite the digs.
I wonder how Cleo will react upon seeing him?
“I will hug him and feed him and squeeze him and I will call him ‘Jeorge’!” 🙂
dogs like to dig :p pun intended?
Wow, I didn’t even realize that! XD
No pun was intended!
I just meant his house/property was quite impressive!
Dogs dig digging, and Drakara digs Jin’s digs.
I love this comic series, i hope you never stop makeing more comics, cause this is so nice to read.
I don’t plan on stopping ^^
Good!
how long are you planning to do this, because i hope for a few more years lmao
Very long, that’s for sure xD
Be sure to check back in about 2121. “Twin Dragons” is going to be the “Longest Running Comic in Interstellar Web History!”
Freefall has been ongoing since 1998 and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Even if you’re going by time and not strips*, that’s gonna be a hard record to beat.
*which you should, because Robin goes for quality over quantity; comparing the strip count of a MWF comic with a simplistic art style to a weekly comic with a detailed art style would be straight-up unfair.
Kai seems to have looked up proper Asiatic courtesy customs, and he knows Kaya better than most people.
What’s actually kind of funny about this visit is that dragons and snakes are both held in high regard within Asiatic cultures; they both appear within the Chinese zodiac and have numerous tales about them within Asiatic cultures (some that leave better impressions than others).
Now, what could make this amusing would be Jin making a quick mistake about Cleo being an Imoogi hybrid instead of a regular snake hybrid. In Korean lore, the Imoogi is a celestial serpent that can receive a dragon treasure that appears once every 7 to twelve centuries, and whichever Imoogi receives the treasure after meeting the proper criteria ascends into dragonhood.
And knowing Cleo, she won’t openly deny it but will probably make a joke to the twins about how she could have been born a dragon herself. We haven’t met Cleo’s dad yet, still waiting on that one, but chances are he might have some people look into it (in other words, Robin probably needs to do some research, sorry about that) and see if they can devise a test for checking for that sort of thing.
Mythic hybrids are rare, it was expressed several times before now, but if they devise some tests to check consistently for hybrid variants, it could help. For example, the twins are dragons and can breathe fire in addition to having what is basically superstrength. Now checking to see if they breathe fire every time someone claims to be a dragon might not be feasible or realistic (and the hospital’s insurance might not appreciate it, especially since the Lung (Chinese dragon) has a very different set of rules when it comes to their breath but having any reptilian hybrids claiming to be a dragon prove it with a strength test, starting with the lower limits of what the twins say they can handle with a little strain might be a good compromise since dragons are expressed to have great physical power in European and Asiatic cultures.
And now I’m wondering about Ancient hybrid variants. That is to say, hybrids that are showing characteristics of extinct or presumed extinct species. And yes, some domestic animals are listed as having died out as well. Nobody would probably bat an eye at a dog hybrid that’s modeled after a White English Terrier, but the White English Terrier died out in the 1800s; its closest living relative is the English Pitbull since it was initially bred into existence by crossbreeding a White English Terrier with an English Bulldog, so it could be a little morbidly funny seeing someone trying to find the breed of dog a dog hybrid is and not finding a match only to find out the child is practically a dead-ringer for an extinct dog breed. Although, it would be kind of funny to see a Mammoth or Mastadon hybrid at the museum at some point, maybe even contemplating being a museum curator or paleontologist.
Holy #EpilepticTrees, Batman. I didn’t even realize you were allowed to post a comment that big on the comment system this website uses.
Interesting, very interesting… but totally plausible… i think…
It would be funny, and an interesting balance with the twins, if Cleo’s father’s research resulted in Cleo ‘evolving’ into an Asian dragon. 🙂
That would make for an interesting strip of Gamer Dragons, imagining everyone getting Pokémon-style evolutions. Aaand now you’ve got me trying to give everyone a type based on what we know about them so far.
Let’s see… Kai & Kaya are obviously Dragon/Fire-types. Benji strikes me as a Normal-type (although his albinism might qualify him as a Shiny). I want to say Cleo is a Water-type, but that might just be the scales talking. Given Rex’s underhanded introduction, I’d peg him as a Dark-type, maybe Fighting/Dark given his profession. And Jin would probably be a Fairy-type, given that they generally represent fairy TALES and with Kasumi to account for.
Well, to be more accurate, the Imoogi is more of a proto-dragon, it’s a creature with the potential to become a dragon but can’t without external mystic means. Without the “dragon treasure” its development will have some very different trajectories. But it would be amusing for Cleo’s next assessment to basically say she’s a Mythic as well, and in a sense, it would be well within her character. The Imoogi is a “Celestial Serpent” and Cleo, in a sense, is above most people because of her family’s social status, bonus points if her family has a compound that could be considering in or above the clouds.
Wow, the design is soo cool, I love Japanese culture 😍 Kai is really aware of their culture and with his knowledge of cooking, I can absolutely imagine him as a sushi chef or some kind of “oriental chef” 😀
And I can really see a dragon hybrid being very fond of sushi!
Kai must be an otaku, then. I wonder if he has a waifu yet…(hehehe)
Nice overhead shot.
Alt-text: The first “l” in “luckily” should be capitalized.
Alt-text is never treated with hard-and-fast capitalization rules. Regard it as a text message. You don’t get angry at people if they don’t start a text with a capital letter, do you?
Who’s angry? 🙂 Kai like’s his spelling correct, and jprime’s just helping with that. 🙂
Heh, yes indeed why would Kai remind Kaya to be quiet! However he forgot to mention no Kaya Mega Hug Pounce Tackles!
Looking forward to seeing Jin next comic and what form of martial arts he practices!
No noisy pounces, Kaya! Quiet ninja pounces only. That’s the Japanese way.
Maybe Jin’s ‘form’ includes “Ways to Dodge Aerial Attacks”. 🙂 🙂
I’m thinking something like tai chi, from what I know of it as a disciple and as a fighting style
, It seems to fit. Though to be fair I’m not exactly well versed in this topic. (Now I know what this week’s research binge topic is)
I think Kai didn’t get his Dream chapter flashback is because the top of the temple stairs is visible and in easier reach than Scarabeth’s domain. Kai probably should have said no “pouncing and cuddling as a greeting” to Kaya, but since he didn’t we may see the poor puppy-cub (my guess on what to refer to young Komainu children) hybrid get tackled by Kaya or a squeeing Cleo taken in by Jin’s cuteness. I wonder if Jin is being trained by a relative or a family friend and is with other students, it would be cool to see if the instructor (or one/some of the students) is a Turtle hybrid. Maybe the Romero Twins can sign up for the class! I wonder how the sensei would take having Ancient Greco-Roman/Western European Dragon hybrids* as students instead of East Asian Dragons…
*Ancient Greek/Roman because the Twins are half Italian and both ancient civilizations believed in the same species of Dragons, so ethically it makes sense that the Twins are Mediterranean Dragons.
Really liking that view in panel 4, Kai. That sand pool(?) too. Good job with the stone and concentric ripples.
One of my favorite things, though, has to be Kaya’s facial “structure” in the last panel. I think she is particularly well-done here!
I hadn’t even considered the significance of dragons in Japanese culture until I saw others discussing it in the comments. It really will be quite interesting to see how Jin’s father reacts to seeing them. While the woman outside seemed fairly relaxed about it, she’s also not the priest of the temple. Hopefully though, the twins should receive a warm welcome as friends of Jin’s. Great work on the angles and lighting this week, Robin! The adjustment of the “camera” from panel to panel really helps provide a basic lay of the land, as well as giving us an idea of the scale of the temple itself. You really outdid yourself building this scene. My last note, since I know I’m jumping around a lot here, is on Kaya’s expression. That look in the last panel really does say it all. At the end of the day, you really did come out with an absolutely amazing page this week. Every panel today was an absolute masterpiece. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, and as always, stay awesome!
This is odd. My Gravatar didn’t show up in my post. Although I use autocomplete for my e-Mail address to keep it consistent. Sorry about this double-post, I just wanted to test in real-world conditions.
Kai is using shush.exe v1.0.9 y/n “y” program. Wanted to make a refrence from all the way back in chapter 3. Hopeing to do lines of code like he did sometime today.
Kaya, you know very well why he did told you that. The real question is, “Why do you think I’m going to do that?”
because its kaya, she will be loud unless you give her chocolate. Simple kaya logic.
Kaya_module: activate.
Sound_mp4 activate.
Chocolate_module:insert.
Kaya.sound_mp4 deactivate.
there does that simplify things for you?
They all enters the dojo ; and with the special atmosphere of the temple , they sees Katsumi ………. Big OMG ^_^”
