So he’s not so much Hydra
as a ‘determined’ guy
who lacks his own graces
and works upon the fly.
(Well, he would if he could
but none seem to have wings)
He gets them to meet up
and social work begins.
He should be politer;
at least to other Docs;
but, when it comes to kids,
his bedside manner rocks.
Time to meet kai’s new fursona
Hey now :p
I’d be honored to have Marco as a father!
(Still, the one I have right now is pretty good…) 😉
He’s a good one ^^
Did Marco gain a couple feet in Panel 2, just for intimidation? #PapaWolf
Of course! Growing a little for intimidation purposes is a very effective tactic xD
As an introvert, I feel obligated to point out that retreating from social interactions is not a bad thing in and of itself. I really hope Reiniger isn’t trying to introduce the twins to a mythical hybrid who simply doesn’t -want- to meet people.
I suppose that will depend on just-why- he doesn’t want to meet other people. Could be a perfectly valid reason, might…not. 🙂
“I don’t want to meet people because I am happy in my solitude” IS a perfectly valid reason.
“Twilight, you need to make some friends.”
I was thinking that too. It would be easy (just like in real life) for them to look at a reclusive kid and assume he has some kind of problem, when he really just prefers not to be social. It’ll be interesting if that kind of situation comes up here.
I can relate. I get most of my socializing done via the internet as the few friends I had met years ago are now in different states. I don’t do so well in ‘typical’ social gatherings and interactions. I tend to end up being the shy isolated dude in a corner trying to not cause any kind of offense and wondering why I am even there.
Now the twins, I don’t think they have any problems with social isolation.
But yes depends on a lot of factors on why the individual is isolated. Sometimes being introduced to someone energetic and outgoing can be beneficial and help with making introductions and breaking the ice in social situations.
I’m well aware of this, and Reiniger did point out that this particular hybrid is fine ^^
Dr. Reininger’s accent is inconsistent.
Well, my proof readers are trying their best :p
Do you actually have proofreaders, or is this comic a solitary effort and you’re just being snarky?
Oh, I’m serious. I have two people proof reading. They don’t always catch everything, since they take time out of their own schedules to help me with this. They do catch like, 99.9% of things, and jprime catches what’s left, so it works out really well xD
So that’s Reininger’s purpose for wanting to catch the twins before they left. Well I hope the meeting goes well then and the twins are able to help.
Yup, I’m sure it will be fine :p
Is that fucking nicol bolas>~>
He’s kind of missing the wings. But I guess after what happended in War of the Sparks, Nicol is pretty isolated.
Didn’t think of that until people started pointing it out, but yeah, sure looks like it xD
Crazy doctor dude seems like a nice guy ^^
…if you can listen to him long enough to figure it out. 🙂
He’s not the evil scientist that people thought he was xD
Even evil scientists can be polite 😉
I’m hoping this doctor is like the chapel ghoul in Bloodborne, where he seems scary but actually has nothing but good intentions.
When I first played I attacked him on reflex, thankfully my friends stopped me and I was using the threaded cane so he survived.
He’s certainly not there for evil experiments :p
So we’ll get to meet a “new” mythical hybrid? Sweet!
I wonder what he or she will be?
Yup, will be revealed next week ^^
There has been some speculation about the species already, but I’m preeeeetty sure no one will guess it :p
Marco looks about ready to start breathing fire himself in Panel 2. I wonder if Kai and Kaya are listening in on this conversation with those ears of theirs? Either way they fortunately seem to be handling things just fine. I guess that their old village gave them skin just as tough as those scales. (I know you’re not supposed to need to explain a joke, but that’s a pun on “having a thick skin” for those unfamiliar with the expression. It means you’re not easily offended.) I wonder what other mythical hybrids we’re going to see introduced to the twins? My memory may be wrong, but the twins are yet to meet another mythical in person, correct? I just hope Kaya can contain her excitement to be meeting a new friend. xD Keep up the good work Robin! I stand by what I said about this comic providing a bit of much needed joy in dark times. As always, stay awesome!
I hope it’s a gryphon. Kaya will go nuts! (nuts-er?) 🙂
Now we know where the twins got their firebreath from xD
Kai and Kaya sure have a thick skin, not just literally :p
They indeed have yet to meet another mythical in person. The species has been speculated about by people, but I’m pretty sure the species won’t be guessed without prior knowledge :p
Thank you for your kind words, Alpha. I’m glad the comic can be the bringer of joy ^^
I feel that we may see Kaya pounce from excitement for a second time. I don’t know if I actually want that. On one hand it’d be funny but on the other it’s not a great way to introduce yourself, but then again it went fine with Benji after the initial shock.
Benji will grow to like being pounced by Kaya. Rex won’t know what to do if she stops harrassing him. Kaya and Nathan; Tag-Team-Harrassers! 🙂
I love where this series is going, it’ll be awesome to see the new types of mythical hybrids.
Thanks 😀 Next week will be the big reveal ^^
Here comes the german naz-EHEMXixjust notice he said SOCIAL experiment nvm 😂😂😂
Just because the experiment is social doesn’t mean it’s SAFE. I would advice caution.
Now that’s just Göring too far.
Good safe there xD
I’m sure some hybrids are easier to identify than others, which likely leads to exasperating the problem. Just how can you tell the difference between a Minotaur hybrid and a standard bovine hybrid? How can you tell the difference between a squid and/or octopus hybrid and a Kraken hybrid? And I’m sure griffin and hippogriff hybrids might be easy to identify initially around birth but less easy to identify when they’re wearing clothes. Also, how can you tell the difference between a Hydra hybrid and a Yamata No Orochi hybrid? They’re both serpents with multiple heads, even they are easily identifiable at glance. Orochi is the Japanese word for snake/serpent, by the way. The only major difference I’ve been able to find is the number of initial heads, the Linerian Hydra (Greek mythology) is commonly stated to have 5 heads initially, the Yamata No Orchi (Japanese mythology) is stated to have 7 heads but didn’t have the regenerative properties of the hydra from Greek mythology, its abilities were a bit different, it also really liked alcohol, apparently.
There are a lot of interesting mythological creatures all over the world, I just gave a few more readily available examples that would be easier to identify for everyone.
Well, anything with six limbs would be mythical, as vertebrates on Earth have four top. Of course our dragons lack wings so wouldn’t be good example …
I’m going to guess mythicals are classified as having some trait that can’t be attributed to any naturally occurring creature (the twins fire breath as an example) strength and other physical measurements would be unreliable at best. Of course this is all under the assumption that there’s no way to genetically identify hybrid types, which doesn’t seem to be the case at this point.
then there’s also the fact that they have to be close to human anatomy. No hybrids with multiple heads, for example. So a hydra would be really difficult to identify :p
Something I’m thinking of for a hydra would be an increased healing ability of the body. This would be scientifically possible, since we know that some parts of the body can’t regenerate because it’s actively blocked by a gene or several genes. Would be a good idea for a mythical hybrid :p
That said, some myths are best left that way. A Vritra mythical would be a serious problem, the Vritra is a demonic dragon serpent from Vedic and Hindu mythology. Leaving aside its a size for a moment, the thing is described as being big enough to wrap about mountains, the Vritra is described as a perpetually hungry monster is basically and embodiment of the mortal sin of Gluttony and is literally stated to be so hungry it wants to consume the heavens. If a mythical tied to the Vritra did exist they would possibly have the strength limits as the twins while also being perpetually hungry, we already have a condition where basically ordinary humans are perpetually hungry so it is possible that a Vritra hybrid could possibly appear at some point. Although, they would probably have to be placed in special containment for the safety of others.
Nah, a hydra would be a conjoined twin with the Dragon phenotype.
This sounds like a long excuse for a guy to find a playmate for his kid. Time will tell.
I do like this guy though.
Given they are both mythical hybrids and where they grew up, it’s amazing the twins are as friendly and social as they are. Part of it is because they’re twins, but in some cases that could just cause them to go into a “no one understands except us” creepy twin mentality.
I think is all because of the positive influence, love and understanding of their parents. They have taught the twins to understand and be kind to people rather than hating them. Even in the early strips, we see the twins deal with the people of their old town in a “sigh, whatever” type of way.
They just don’t hate.
Maybe it’s exactly because they didn’t know and they already stood out among the crowd in a negative way that they developed this way. The love of their parents and they fact that they had each other was a good thing ^^
If this “social” experiment will take place in a nuclear reactor block, I’m gonna scream 😀 XD
I’m sure the hospital wouldn’t have that xD
No, but depending on the hospital, you may have nuclear storage for things like tracers, beam sources (gamma and strong beta emitters for cancer therapy) and brachytherapy seeds. There’s also radiation generators (particle accelerators and extremely powerful X-rays) which are also used in cancer therapy.
Is it weird that I slapped MHA/Ben 10/Naruto/Gravity Falls/Twin Dragons/Etc. PLug in some of my oc’s??????
I take inspiration from multiple sources as well. Just make sure people can’t point out where you got it from :p
Well I failed miserably at that then well i guess except the MHA part becuse it take place in that universe
Wow the quarantine is really reeking havoc on my sense of time and date, and even one day late means being pushed out to the middle of nowhere! This story has definitely taken an undiscussed(by the community) twist, but it’s about what I was expecting. I’m looking forward to seeing the new mythical hybrid(s?) like everyone else, but I also can’t wait to see how the twins react to doctor Reinger and to what he’s about to show them, along with Marco’s reaction to a bit more information. How do you pronounce Reinger? I have heard similar names, but not any with that exact spelling, and in my experience names are the only thing in German you can’t guarantee you will be able to pronounce correctly just by reading them. Also my unrelated question: do any hybrids have claws? If so how common are they?
Sorry if that was a bit much
Sorry for adding this I just noticed it and that no one else had mentioned it. Is that painting in the background based on anything? It looks extremely familiar. Even if it’s not it’s kinda interesting because it looks like the type of thing that’s either worth millions or dirt cheap. I know it seems like a bit much to comment on probably insignificant things in the background but I really do want to know if it’s based on a real piece of art and also I’m bored. I think I’m going to re read whole comic again and stop bothering you
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the painting is a Robin original based on similar office and hospital paintings. It does incorporate principles a lot of famous paintings use (asymmetry, contrast, line of action, guided eye movement, use of diagonals and warm colors to show energy, ect) so I can understand the curiosity. It’s a nice piece.
When I worked in company owned office buildings, I used to refer to the style of art they usually had on the walls as “Industrial Strength Art”. 🙂
“The hybrids in Hybrid City have it good, but it’s not like that everywhere” flashbacks to getting trough rostok as a freedom member
Wait a minute. WHY IS THERE NO FANDOM FOR THIS? Because of there is one, I will be as overjoyed as Kaya with chocolate.
It hasn’t been updated in a while, but there is one: https://twindragons.fandom.com/wiki/Kai_Romero
Also, I hope your name is a Splatoon reference.
Hola Robin!I would like to know if I could make a comic similiar to this.I plan (if it is ok with you) to make it with quadruplets, who are mythical hybrids.Hybrids are called Animalians in this idea, btw. There are also no varying degrees of hybrid-ness.There are 3 hybrid types. If it is ok,it will be easier to explain in comic.:D
That scar on the Doctor’s mouth makes me wonder if he was an Academic Fencer in his college days.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_fencing
(Though generally such scars tend to be confined to the cheeks and forehead.)
Went to Heidelberg did he? 🙂
ooh i wonder what other kind of mythical hybrids exist in this universe.
Reiniger: “If one mythical hybrid meets another different mythical hybrid, vill they reach critical mass and produce energy?”
Marco: “You are NOT weaponizing my kids!”
Oh, and Reiniger also might not know about a confounding variable…in their previous town, they were already socially isolated by their xenophobic neighbors.
Speaking of social phenomena, I have to wonder whether Kai and Kaya have their own “twinspeak.” It frequently develops between twins who are raised together.
IF.. I understand correctly what you are speaking of, you don’t actually -have- to be twins for that. I had a best friend, totally unrelated and born hundreds of miles away, and we regularly finished each other’s sentences or had conversations that ranged over several subjects with neither of us actually mentioning what those subjects were. Really annoyed some of our other friends with that one, totally unintentionally. 🙂 🙂 🙂
No, it’s not an empathic/psychosocial effect, it has to do with twins reared together. They literally evolve their own language with each other.
No, you will not “explain along ze way”! You will explain here and now and then I will decide if there is any “along ze way”.
Reiniger’s arrogance and assumption of concurrence , while very German, is not very becoming or assuring. He needs to learn some social kills himself and learn to ask instead of tell. Marco has every right and the responsibility to ensure that his kids will be safe before agreeing to any “experiment”.
Reiniger is talking about explaining the concept of mythical hybrids “along the way”, not explaining the experiment. That’s hardly worth demanding an explanation here and now, especially considering it’s one that the viewer has already received.
You missed the point.
There is no “along the way” until, and IF, Marco agrees to allow the experiment.
Protective Dad mode engaged, so cute
